Pakistan and South Africa are set to clash in the opening match of a three-game ODI series at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium on Tuesday. With both sides aiming to climb the ICC World Cup Super League standings—Pakistan currently sitting fifth and South Africa sixth—the contest promises high stakes and competitive cricket.

For Shaheen Afridi, recently appointed as ODI captain, this marks his first leadership assignment on home turf. He’ll be keen to kick off Pakistan’s 50-over season with a strong performance, and all eyes will be on how he marshals his side in familiar conditions.

Very hard to watch an ODI bilateral series now.
T20Is are atleast good timing with evening post office watch timings and quick results

Rizwan at 4 is an insult to the no4 position in the batting order.

It’s like putting a nightwatchman in
Then it’s his fans+Babar’s who cry the most about Pakistan being a mediocre team

They don’t admit the issue starts at home with these kinds of stupid moves.

Good to see yet another ODI series.

Tired of the deluge of T20 cricket. It's gotten really repetitive and boring.

And Test cricket is only competitive when played between top sides

Seems like it’s KPK quota which is usually 70%+ of the team formation.

We can always go into conspiracies which is a very deep and never ending pit.
Rana bro... I will not even indulge in any chat with you... Rizwan at 4 has a record that you will find hard to match ???

Find me stats now

ODIs are also only competitive when played between top sides.

Only in T20s can weaker sides hold their own because of the short duration.

SQUAD UPDATE

FAISALABAD: Momentum Multiply Titans batter Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of the three-match One-Day International series against Pakistan due to a low-grade shoulder muscle strain.

He sustained the shoulder injury during the third T20 International at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday.

Brevis will undergo rehabilitation with the Proteas Men’s medical team in Pakistan in preparation for the upcoming Test tour of India.

His replacement for the ODI series will be announced in due course.

Mohammad Rizwan's ODI stats at batting number 4

53 innings,
2040 runs
average 47.5
strike rate of 85.6
12 half-centuries
4 centuries

Wow what a outstanding number for a night watchman.

:klopp :kp
He averages 47 as a T20 opener too

Rizwan is a clear case study of looking good for himself whilst his team sinks to new lows.

Rizwan is out of his depth in T20Is. But deserves his slot in the ODI format.

So this is Babar and riz's fault that they are averaging higher than others and the whole other team is mediocre or pathetic?

Unfortunately, the vast majority of Pakistan cricket fans who have been influenced by Babar and Rizwan deserve nothing but the iron fist treatment. This is just how it will have to be if you want to get things back in order.

Rizwan must be forced out of a position where his success on a personal level brings no reward to Pakistan’s objectives and goals.

His fans can cry all they want and share all the stats on social media to run his campaign. This nation only deserves the Danda treatment. Boot out Rizwan from number 4 just like he was booted out from captaincy.

Deal with it!

Ghee Agar Seedhi ungli se na nikle,

Then you know the rest.

Get this lipstick Don out of number 4. He’s turned Pakistan cricket into a circus!

It's better than Test cricket. Afghanistan won't beat any top side in Test cricket and won't even compete.

But they can threaten even the best in ODI cricket.

Shame. Already missing a couple of players and now this.

First, clarify yourself: are you talking about ODIs or T20s? You said Rizwan is a problem at number four, but I showed you his stats, which are very good.

TOSS UPDATE:

Pakistan win the toss and opt to bowl first against South Africa in the first ODI game of the series

I think Afghanistan's case is more to do with the lack of opportunities. Once they get more exposure in different conditions, they will get as good as they have in ODI cricket.

Tests will of course expose weaknesses a lot more so of a weak team, but ODIs are also pretty much the same now as both formats allow a superior team to regain momentum, unlike T20 cricket.

Pakistan going with 3 bowlers and 1 AR. Rest are all part timers.

Expect 350 score.

This bits and pieces strategy doesn't work in ODIs. Hesson needs to learn

Faheem ashraf is better bat than hussain talat, hasan nawaz can tackle spin at 6, we need someone to tackle pace at 7, faheem is better for that.

Hussain Talat at 6 and Rizwan at 4

It’s these stupidities that have cost us in the past and will continue to cost us.

Up to SA to take this a bit seriously and make the most of it.

No threatening bowler besides Abrar

Hesson obsession with useless all rounders like Talat for sake of it has already costed us matches and will cost again for sure. Such a terrible coach he has proven to be , and this obsession might work sometime in T20s, but for ODI it sure disaster.

I am not sure of this team at all i like the idea of lengthening the awful batters we have but talatt m hasan nawqz havent done anything defo wud have played faheem

Sorry, I kept ranting about how Rizwan opening in T20 is completely unbalancing the side and I was always right….no need to be proven right

The same issue here is Rizwan at 4.

Complete unbalancing of the side!

Well he got us to final of asia cup ..just won the T20 series so explain his uselessness will you

Hassan Nawaz should be given maximum time at the crease and he is being mucked around the batting order since agreeing to shift down the order.

How can you expect him to develop when you bat him as a useless slogger?

Hussain talat has been a beast in domestic from where i heard so he is a good inclusion.
This must be his 5th or 6th comeback in to the side. If you're good enough u won't get dropped so often.

He's a bit like Sahibzada Farhan only a domestic standard player

Saffers need to take it seriously

They have been very casual in the T20i series
They have rested multiple players for the India Test tour.

In the Champions Cup last year, 11 out of 13 matches were won by the side batting first at Faisalabad.

Not sure about this toss decision by Shaheen

Didn't pakistan whitewashed south africa in south Africa 3 nil how does pakistan always beat them in odis so easily and remember klassen and miller were playing that series?

The addition of Rizwan and Babar already makes our batting lineup look so much stronger.

Can't believe they were discarded for the Asia Cup. Un-bloody-believable.

entire South African first choice players are not playing in this series .

Pakistan should win this series with ease against South Africa D Team

They don't want him to develop. They'll discard him after a couple more failures at 7 and tell the fans that look at his last few games. He failed.

Matthew Breetzke just played 6 ODI and he is captain of South Africa tell us how inexperienced and 2nd string team they are playing.

All the main players are in india for important test series.
