What's new

Pakistan [299/5] defeat Sri Lanka [297/9] by 5 wickets and win ODI series by a 2-0 margin

Iftikhar is a good batsman.

Why does he get so much stick on PP?

When in doubt, Chachu is here to bail you out!!! Back to back boundaries by the 29 (40) year old

Chacha is underrated a bit too much. The guy is a decent player

Loving Iftikhar in LOIs as I wanted since this year's PSL. Bowled better than main spinners and a batsman who can actually hit the ball at will.

I have observed many posters dont forget the first impression of a player. Iftikhar was shaky and nervous when he made his debut but in this year's PSL he showed that he overcame that. He is one of the best conventional hitters we have and he is a pretty useful spinner too.

Surely can't lose it from here.

Can we just acknowledge how bad Pak must be that we're struggling against a Sri Lanka B side?

Exactly.

He played wonderfully in this year’s PSL.

Loved how he finished some games.

This very cruel from Pakistan, first giving Lanka youngsters some hope and then crushing it and that too through uncle Ifti who is playing past his bed time :sarf2

Ifti Chacha to the rescue :yk

We call my dad's best friend Ifti chacha. Only issue is he's built like Sarfraz and about 30 years older. He was good enough to be a reserve for Pakistan field hockey back in the 70s.

Iftikhar is 32+ (in real life). We should invest in someone young imo, I don't see Iftikhar in the Pak team till the next WC.

Watching Haris bat makes me wonder where he had been for all these years.

Poor lad had to sit out for the likes of Akmal, Hafeez etc.

Iftikhar could have easily played in WC over one of Malik or Hafeez and provided a better balance to the combination.

He will be found out by a better team. Doesn't have any fluency to his game.

No comparison to Hafeez, although anyone would have done better than Malik.

Oh noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :sree

Man of the Match should be Haris Sohail. His innings was more important than Fakhar's knock or Abid's knock.

What's up with our lads standing at the crease for 10 years with that Umar Akmal-expression on their face :ua

Haris is gone. But, he has done the job.

11 runs needed from 14 balls. Pakistan should be home.

Some people look older than they are but without going into debate on Iftikhar's age (Everything will be an assumptiom), we have to realize Unfortunately the only young player who is close to his hitting ability and can bowl a bit as well is Khushdil Shah, other than that I cant think of anyone. Irrespective of Iftikhar's age he is fit enough to bowl and bat as we have seen.

Harris looks a million dollars one moment and then in the next he looks like a guy that has never played at this level.

With all praise his strike rate si below 90 here.He may hit a few but will play more dot balls Look at Harry with basic batting skills covered he played with SR of 112 which ifti can only dream of.Please stop portraying him that good.

Team management trying hard for Sarfaraz and Wahab to show their worth.

I'm all for Iftikhar being given chances to play for Pakistan in the short term. I just can't see him last more than 2-3 years in the team due to his age.

Khushdil Shah has to be given a chance. I will be hugely disappointed if he isn't given a chance.

And what if he actually is 27?

People may look older than what they are...

Man for a senior pace bowler, Pradeep is pretty dumb :)))

Ifti Chacha will now be lauded as the finisher we need, and play for the next four years.

Pakistan win with 10 balls to spare.

Well done.

SL played well but Pakistan were never in real danger.

Let's be real, he is obviously over 30. There's no way he's that young. Age fudging is very common in Pakistan, everyone knows that.

He played with a strike rate of 146 in PSL and has a career SR of 90 in List A. If you see the highlights of PSL 2019 you will see that he is a one of the best hitters we have.

Taking a chase to the last few overs against a Sri Lankan B team seems like Misbah’s idea of pushing your limits as a team.

LOL, this is giving me the Zimbabwe vibes from last year. Can't wait for a top team to make us humble again.

Pretty shameful wishing for the loss of your national team to satisfy your ego.

I'm not wishing for a loss but considering what happened last year in the Asia Cup, it's very likely that something similar will happen again.

Stat alert:

“This is Pakistan’s first bilateral series win in 15 months.

Last one was against Zimbabwe.”

Is it from some reliable source or just an assessment or a guess?

An year back one guy here found out that Ifti had date of birth of 1986 in PCB data i think .Know one of his nieghbour in my ward who said he is more than 33.

Positives from the match:
- We won
- Abid did well and Fakhar is doing OK too.
- Haris seems to have found a new gear in his batting.
- Wahab once again getting exposed.
- Ifti having a decent allround performance.
- Other batsmen stood up when Babar didn't.

Negatives:
- Spinners.
- Fielding was horrible.
- Too defensive in the middle overs, giving away easy runs.
- Sarfaraz shouldn't have come before Haris.
- Hasnain is being wasted.

Twin 70-plus scores from Pakistan’s opening pair guided the hosts to a 2-0 series victory over Sri Lanka in ODI cricket’s return to Karachi.

Such a comfortable win – Pakistan eventually triumphed by five wickets with almost two overs remaining – seemed unlikely when Sri Lankan opener Danushka Gunathilaka was in full flow, bringing up a superb hundred off as many balls, before falling for 133, the fifth-higest ODI score by a Sri Lankan against Pakistan.

He was bowled by a superb yorker from Mohammad Amir, who ended with three wickets to his name, but, allied to doughty contributions from captain Lahiru Thirimanne, Angelo Perera, and debutant Minod Bhanuka, he laid a superb platform, with Sri Lanka 225/4 heading into the final nine overs of the innings.

Pakistan pulled it back somewhat towards the end, but Dasun Shanaka’s powerful 24-ball 43 meant they still crept up towards 300, seemingly a tough ask.

In reality, Pakistan’s chase could hardly have gone more to plan. One opener teed off, allowing the other settle, with Abid Ali cracking 74 off 67 and Fakhar Zaman a more sedate 76 off 91. After the 123-run opening stand, a series of smaller partnership were all Pakistan required, and though there was a slight moment of concern when Fakhar and second-ODI centurion Babar Azam fell within eight runs of each other, no Sri Lankan miracle was forthcoming.

Abid Ali's half-century earned him the Player of the Match awardAbid Ali's half-century earned him the Player of the Match award
All nerves were eased by Haris Sohail, who stroked 56 off 50 balls, running hard and picking boundaries when he could, and though he fell with 11 runs still required for victory, Iftikhar Ahmed guided Pakistan over the line comfortably.

The result meant that Pakistan claimed the ODI series, the first played at the National Stadium in Karachi in over 10 years, by a margin of two games to nil.

I find it slightly worrying that Pakistan´s batting line-up is heavily reliant on the top three. Yesterday, it looked a bit more uncovered obviously due to the absence of Imam, the other opener.

A good match, all in all. I´m still to get over that awesome six by Haris Sohail over extra-cover. A stunning hit! Well played Sri Lanka. I didn´t expect them to provide such a tough fight. Kudos to them!

The return of international cricket to Pakistan just got a lot sweeter. The Men in Green not only managed to beat Sri Lanka 2-0 in the One Day Internationals (ODIs) but in doing so they also claimed the record of highest number of victories against any opponent in 50-overs cricket.

Pakistan cricket team defeated Sri Lanka in the third ODI of the historic home series on Wednesday, which was their 92nd victory against the Islanders, which is a world record.

Earlier, Australia had defeated New Zealand and India had beaten Sri Lanka in 91 matches each. The Australian team has won 91 of 137 matches against New Zealand, while the Indian team has won 91 of 159 matches against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Pakistan claimed their 92nd victory against the Lankans out of 155 matches. The Men in Green have faced defeat in 58 of those matches.

Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by five wickets in the third and final day-night international in Karachi on Wednesday, taking the three-match series 2-0. After winning the ODI series, Pakistan would now meet Sri Lanka in Lahore for a three-match T20I series.
