Pakistan 15-member squad for T-20I Triangular series and ODI series in Zimbabwe

Lahore-June 22, 2018: The National Selection Committee headed by Inzamam ul Haq after consultation with Captain Sarfraz Ahmed and Head Coach Mickey Arthur has announced the 15-member T20 squad for the triangular series featuring Australia, Zimbabwe and Pakistan, and 15-member ODI squad for the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.

The triangular series will take place from July 1 to July 8, 2018, whereas the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe will commence from July 13, 2018. The ODIs have been scheduled at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo on July 13, 16, 18, 20 and 22, 2018, respectively.

“Sahibzada Farhan has been selected in the T-20I squad, whereas Mohammad Hafeez is selected in both T-20I and ODI squad, and will be available for the team as an all-rounder after his bowling action was cleared. Asif Ali was included in the ODI squad to strengthen the lower middle order while Junaid Khan and Yasir Shah makes a comeback in the ODI squad after getting fit from the injury. Babar Azam was not considered for T20s because he is recovering from injury and as per medical staff, it is hoped that he would be fit for Odis said Inzamam ul Haq, chief selector.

Pakistan team (ODI and T-20I) camp will be from June 25 to 27, 2018 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The team will depart for Zimbabwe on June 28, 2018.

I would have prefereed Amir and Hasan to be rested for the T20I triseries.Raees could have been picked if fit.
 
So Inzamam is too scare to rest some of our players against Zimbabwe who is missing the service of 5 seniors.
Inzamam is not with the reality or too bias with the selection.

T20 Squad: Hafeez and Haris are waste of time. Looks like Hafeez will play next T20 World Cup.
ODI squad: Yasir Shah is a pathetic selection.

Good to see Azhar and Rahat dropped but they can always comeback as Hafeez
 
Hafeez retains his place despite the NZ debacle. The man is truly undroppable.

I don't mind drafting Yasir in only for the sake of getting some overs under his belt before our series against Australia and NZ in UAE. He shouldn't be playing LOIs long-term however, but I'm guessing this is so he can regain his fitness in spin friendly Zimbabwean conditions.

Good to see Sahibzada Farhan there, but Imam-ul-Haq shouldn't be playing LOIs. Overall a mixed bag but the majority of the team picks itself.

I'm more interested in the ODI leg of this tour with the World Cup a year away, not this T20 tri series.
 
God dammit. WHY OH WHY is Hafeez back god damn. Great here starts his minnow bashing. Yasir for some reason has been brought in the ODI team and Mohammad Amir has not been rested which is surprising. Postives are that Sahibzada Farhan has been called up but only T20 is interesting. Seems like there still backing Imam in the ODI which is okay but there likely to open Hafeez. Overall disappointed with the team expected some youngsters but not surprised at the return of the :hafeez2
 
So Inzi did not learn anything from NZ whitewash. Keeping Hafeez and now bring Yasir to destroy his test career. Another waste of tour by selecting some useless players

Yasir has no place in ODIs. Shadab and Nawaz are better bowlers. Malik, Fakhar, and Haris can bowl too.
 
Oh god. Amir, hassan and hafeez for t20 in zimbabwe? Are they serious? Why only yasir shah? Why not mohammad irfan leg spinner and zafar gohar? Including hafeez in odis is ok as i believe he can open in worldcup and he is excellent offspinner. But what is use of him in t20? That also against zim. Pak is so obsessed with number 1 ranking in t20 that they will not even shy away from selecting imran khan or miandad if required. Sad inzi. Sad.. nothing new in spin bowling department. Really disappointed. Mohammad irfan and zafar gohar are excellent spinners.. mohammad irfan could have been groomed here and he could have become handy spinner for us in worldcup like kuldeep and chahal for india. And why not try sahibzada in odis also where true technique and temprament will be tested and more chance for player like sahibzada to perform, against zimbabwe atleast. I believe he is better odi player than t20
 
Looks like Micky has limited power to drop or select certain players. After the Ban Shehzad will replace Farhan in our T20 team
 
Hafeez selection makes me think that Mickey 'll keep close eye on him. This ODI series 'll decide if he 'll be selected for next series and WC19. I assume hafeez clearing the bowling action has lot to do with his selection.

Not able to digest selection of yasir shah. Why Amir is selected for ODIs against a team like Zim, just mind boggling.

Asif Ali, I doubt he 'll succeed in ODIs, let see what he has to offer in this format. I would have loved to see Farhan opening with Fakhar. I hope Farhan gets a chance in T20s and does well so that he can ask for ODIs selection.
 
Asif Ali in ODI squad as well? Guy hasn't even performed that well in T20s and has a pathetic average. And Amir was supposed to rest, why is he here?
 
Farhan can still make it into the ODI squad in place of Babar, provided he does well. I doubt Babar will be fit for the ODI series
 
Pathetic selections. What is Amir and Hassan doing against minnows. Shaheen should have been selected in ODIs. Perfect opportunity for Hafeez to score against minnows and ruin our Asia cup.
 
So am guessing we will be going with the GOAT lineup in T20Is, just Hafeez/Farhan replacing Babar.

And in ODIs am expecting the 338 XI just with Harris in for tuk tuk Azhar and Faheem for injured Imad.

To be fair, they did say to him if he can pass his bowling test then he can return.

Needed a few more younger players.
 
Even if we play Uganda, we will go with a full strength side. We are so scared of losing. Why can't our A team play with Zimbabwe?

Disappointing to see Hafeez back in the ODI side especially against such a weak side. Talat should have been given a go in ODI's.

Nice to see Farhan selected to T20 and hopefully he's given a good run.

Should have included Hussain Talat & Shaheen Afridi in ODI squad also.

Haris Sohail's T20 selection is also questionable.

What a shame man, what a shame!!!! That ODI squad is a disgrace - even ZIM rested their top players :)

We read lot about the progress made by PAK team, bright future, golden generation awaiting ..... etc. This ODI squad is a pure minnow mentality.

I have nothing to say on this squad - since PAK won CT, so Ul Haq, Mickey & Sarfraz must be right.

They should have atleast rested Shoaib Malik and Hafeez to make room for a few new youngsters.

Now they’re going ride on these performances when they fail against South Africa.
 
For T20's we look a strong team.
For ODI's our batting line up is weak, however as it's Zimbabwe it shouldn't be a problem (I think).
 
Dropping Talat was expected actually - I have written that many times. Next ICC event is in UK, and he is the perfect foil for a No. 6 all-rounder who could bowl 5/6 overs of seem-ups, the UK version of UAE spin ................. but, that threatens the utility of National Treasure - UL Haq can't take the risk of sending Talat against this ZIM side, and he might end the series scoring 2 fifties and taking 7 wickets.

Why oh why do you select players with the likes of Imam, Haris, Hafeez, Malik, Sarfraz and even Babar in the same ODI squad?...should have picked Azhar as well, what use is Fakhar when your only ambitions are to score between 250 to 280 max...

Why dont these people learn (that goes for Mickey too)...just because you fluked it last time with modest scores and excellent bowling line up, do you seriously think you'll do it again next year?

Please please run with the times...please!

Stop taking the mooter outta your bowlers, which you have been doing for the past 40 years, and give them the batters to match...not tatts like we have above.

Hafeez selected for a series against Zimbabwe:))) :))) :))). Told y'all not to do banghra over him being dropped against NZ. Haris Sohail is a weird selection for T20s.

Yasir Shah selection is beyond belief for LO. Why not select a younger spinner ? Hussain Talat should have been in the ODI squad but we need that vital experience vs Zimbabwe LOL.
 
hafeez, with his bowling is going to play a major role in world cup 2019. his selection is a good one considering the world cup is around the corner. instead of changing and chopping they must give maximum chances to the squad likely to feature in WC. However Amir and Hassan should have been rested , certainly amir should have been rested,i cant seem to understand the logic .
 
This will lead to a boring series.

This Pak should be able to annihilate Zim in T20 and ODI's.

phattu stuff from our selectors. But it doesn't surprise me as that's our mentality.

This will also lead Amir to being forced to retire from tests as Mickey/Selectors are not looking out for him.
 
Yet again I am convinced my decision to not take Pakistan cricket seriously until Mr Undroppable is dropped and out of the team for at least 24 months was right , as until then mediocrity rulez.
 
Don't know why people are criticizing Hafeez's selection. He was the second best batsman (after Fakhar) in our last ODI series in New Zealand and he has started to bat according to modern day requirements. Also he has got back his bowling. People are just criticizing for the sake of criticism as he was far from our worst batsman on our last ODI series.
 
We already know what Hafeez can do. What is the point of blocking a youngster from getting his chance against a weakened Zim?

Imagine if we had stuck with Shehzad in CT17, would we still be waiting now to discover Fakhar?

Good to see Rahat out, and Farhan in T20s I guess. Asif in ODIs will be interesting.

I guess Imam gets another chance to cement the 2nd openers spot in ODIs.

Overall, disappointing considering the opposition.

Not the squad i would have picked but i can understand why Inzy went with this squad. We really don't have any good batsmen so i'm not surprised to see Hafeez and Haris in T20 but i doubt they will play.
I would have liked to have seen Farhan and Shan instead of Imam in the ODI squad because of their domestic performance.
Dropping Hafeez right now doesn't make much sense because he was the best batsman in NZ after Fakhar and more importantly now he will play as an all-rounder.
I'm not surprised to see Asif in the ODI squad even though based on his list A stats he doesn't deserve to be selected but he is there for his hitting abilities. We don't have any good hitters in our squad asides from fakhar, they are banking on Asif to become what Buttler is for England-not that it will happen but this is the best we have.
 
Waste of time not including Talat in ODIS. Hafeez is wasted definitely in t20 and maybe in ODIs too.

Selectors needed to be brave!

Trying to get the first 12 players pinned down. The team has been in flux too long.
 
Its a big shame that Talat has been ignored and there isn't much fuss about it. It would have been a good time to test and develop him in a low key series, especially when he has the ingredients missing from our team.

Can't see how Malik scoring 500 runs in the series would be any beneficial to us even in the short term. Must have been rested

Asif Ali is riding on those few sixes in PSL. His selection is more baffling considering Hussain isn't picked.

Amir and Hassan plays all the 3 formats.
It would have been ideal to rest them considering the amount of overs they need to bowl. It would have been an added incentive for Amir to not miss tests. Irrespective, I believe they shouldn't have been picked considering the bowling depth we have. Shinwari Junaid, Shaheen should have played all games. Anyway, I feel Mickey wouldn't play them much, he just want to carry them to make sure the progress and team developments he planned are kept on track. It's easy for our players to lose focus when not monitored.

Imam up Haq!!! Well looks a gutsy guy, but also a misfit for ODIs.

Yasir might be picked to have some game time.

A disappointing squad in the end which cannot even shun it's 'Haters' even by winning every game of the series by 200 runs. The wins are expected in any case, but a lot more could have been gained from this tour.
 
Also could have been a series where for once we could have carried a young backup keeper.
Not that I want sarfaraz to be replaced, but ALLAH forbid, Sarfaraz gets injured anytime, we even don't have someone like umar akmal to back him up. Also it just reflects poor vision and future planning when nothing had been visibly done about it in the past 1 year. Don't know what would happen if Sarfaraz is to miss a match even due to flu.
A backup keeper, who should have played 2-3 ODIs while Sarfaraz is rested just to see what calibre does the player posses and it would also have been an ideal time for noticing and developing our vice captain's leadership skills.
Sarfaraz playing 3 formats as captain can lead to a burnout.

How much bravery does Inzi need to instill youth against freaking Zimbabwe? No offense to Zimbabwe but they aren't exactly juggernauts in the cricketing world. I guess it was ignorant of me to assume that Hussain Talat would be an automatic pick for ODIs :ishant. But forget him, we have the all conquering, the almighty professor and his reborn offspin of mass destruction :hafeez

With Yasir and Asif selected in ODI, I doubt that's the case

There's seem to be no plan or strategy here. They just picked the first names that came to mind
 
the only positive is Asif in odi,the rest is garbage,,hypocrite inzi,what a shame!
 
So imam is our opener going into the worldcup? Hes not much different than Azhar. Need someone more dynamic. Maybe Asif ali/Hafeez as opener
 
What garbage are people posting here. If I remember correctly, Asif Ali was in unreal form in the Pakistan Cup recently. While Hussain Talat bombed spectacularly in comparison. He's a good hitter down the order, which we severely need in the ODI team

Criticism just for the sake of criticism or to look 'cool' is unfair
 
Hafeez was one of our best batters in NZ last time. So his selection is justified what I can't understand that why we are not resting our main bowlers Hassan and amir. This was perfect time for Shaheen shah or even Mohammed Musa to get in the odi squad or give chance to some other deserving bowlers in domestic circuit.

Very poor from Pak selectors, which is the reason we are far behind in ODI's and Tests. Different selectors same story in every world cup. No preparation at all, they will bring these hacks back every time and before the start of the world cup they won't find their established 15 man squad and at last they will end up selecting Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali in the world cup 2019 squad.
 
One thing I am never able to understand is that how can Pak media lobby so much for such a farce player.. This is beyond me, all these days Pak media showed him as a messiah, how is this possible that that a Phateechar player like him can have such powerful connections that selectors are forced to pick him because of huge media pressure
 
I feel Talat will cover for Babar, and will actually perform well too, thereby cementing his spot in ODIs like he did it T20Is previously.

Plus, after Malik retires next year followed by Hafeez hopefully (even if the latter doesn't happen), that spot us pretty much Talat's confirmed.

So I'm not too bothered about Talat, but am mainly just fussed about Hafeez being the chosen one.

I want to see Hussain Talat in more matches but hammering a C grade Windies attack aside, he hasn't kicked on since the PSL.

He averaged 25 at a SR of 68 in the Pakistan Cup whereas Asif Ali was the second highest scorer with an average of 109 at SR of 128.

I refer you guys to my above post. Asif Ali was superb in the Pakistan Cup whereas Hussain Talat, scoring against a poor Windies attack aside, hasn't kicked on since PSL. I still want to see more of Hussain Talat - but you can't say Asif Ali hasn't earned a callup based on recent form.

Won’t happen much. It’s tactically fixed that way.

If you look at the ODI squad carefully; they have picked only 6 batsmen and lots of bowlers/all rounders.

So, what’ll happen is all 5 games, PAK is likely to fill same top order -
FZ, Imam, MoHa, Sarf, Malik, Hari/Asif ....

Problem is, if PAK bats first, everytime it’ll end at 250/2 after 35-38 overs; or PAK bats 2nd game should be over inside 75 overs.

Sorry to say, purpose of this tour is entirely to establish 2 players - MoHa & Imam; and they’ll play 5X2 Innings here. Out of 5 games, may be once PAK will find them at 70/4, then Malik/Sarfraz will get their chance to be saviour ..... truth is, this ZIM side won’t compete with any QeA team.

You look back in time and ask yourself why the heck did we pick Hafeez and Malik against Zim and what were Farhan, Yasir and Talat doing in that squad.

This was the one series where we should have tried something new but guess what we didnt.

Sahibzada Fathan and Hussain Talat are something new, aren't they? But yes the likes of Hafeez, Malik and Yasir Shah being picked for this series was stupid, and we rested our best players in the recent series vs Australia.
