15 member T-20 squad announced for series against Australia.

Lahore- October 18, 2018: The National Selection Committee headed by Inzamam ul Haq after consultation with Captain Sarfraz Ahmed and Head Coach Mickey Arthur has announced the 15-member T-20 squad for the three-match T-20I series against Australia.

The 3-match T-20I series against Australia will be played on October 24, 26 and 28, 2018 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, respectively.

“Waqas Maqsood has been drafted in the T-20 squad after his recent performances in the domestic cricket and playing for Pakistan ‘A’ team in the recent series. Similarly, Imad Wasim makes a comeback in the team after his form and fitness was monitored by the selection committee during the current domestic matches, “concludes Chief Selector Inzamam ul Haq.

Farhan wasn't very good for A team but maqsood looks a decent selection
 
5 pacers and no specialist spinners, instead relying on the all-rounders for spin. We just don't learn do we.

Our specialist spinner Raza Hasan has had an ordinary series against New Zealand A of all teams. Playing rubbish spinners just for the sake of playing a specialist spinner is not on.
 
Don't know why imad and hafeez have been selected. Pathetic selections. Inzi is turning out to be a pathetic CS.
 
Where r the spcialist spinners and genuine t20 batsmen. Are there any in pakistan??

Not a bad squad. Though again way too many fast bowlers. Could have maybe gotten another big hitter like Sohail Akhtar, Saif Badar, Mukhtar or Khushdil Shah. Also having another spin option might have been helpful. Maybe Kashif Bhatti.

I have also been thinking that the T20 batting order should be rethought. I dont know why even in this short format we have to wait till the end to hit big. There should be no real threat of getting bowled out on these kinds of surfaces. Its best have all your big hitters upfront and then have a steady hand lower down to stop the slide if it happens. Something like:

why select hafeez who has been a failure in t20is since 2014

Badar and Sohail had poor Psls, Khusdil isn't a big hitter and Mukhtar has already had a go.
I would have liked to see Nauman Anwar and Fakhar Opening.

People argue that PSL is the criteria, but this guy performed there and still hasn’t got a chance

Last PSL was pretty poor for Asghar. Agreed about Umaid Asif.

But thing about Waqas Maqsood is that he has been performing consistently in every format for sometime now

Good squad overall but def would have liked to see one more spinner, ideally zafar. Not only bcz extra spinner is needed but to groom him if either Imad or Shadab are unfit or out of form.

Waqas is 30, if performs well we can get few years out of him. Umaid however is around 33, 34 so his future in other formats wasnt that bright.
 
Hafeez did nothing to be selected. We need a big hitters like Asif Ali to open the innings and shoulder some responsibility with fakhar. How long does sharjeel have left for his ban?
 
Most countries use the T20 to introduce young players that have potential- we pick guys that 32 and 38 year olds. Who remembers these matches even a few days after they are played?

I'm saying the squad contains 5 seam bowlers and 3 spinners. Those 3 spinners are all-rounders, i.e. their spin bowling is not their primary function.

Hafeez barely bowls these days, Shadab's batting is arguably better than his spin bowling which is not fully developed, and Imad is coming back from a long layoff.

Having seen the folly of selecting spin bowling ARs instead of specialist spinners in the Asia Cup in UAE conditions - why are we repeating the same mistake ?

Then pick him closer to the time if he can a make a difference, at this stage the T20 team should be a springboard to potential talent. Winnings these games makes no difference in the bigger picture, we take it too seriously.
 
Why Hafeez & waqas?
Should have gone with a specialist spinner Gowhar, Asgar, Raza, Hasan Khan etc.
 
Bilal Asif should have been selected. An offspinner and a hard hitting batsman
 
Poor squad selection. We are going in a completely wrong direction in T20I cricket and we will pay for it at WT20 2020.
 
Does anyone has any confusion now to agree that MoHa's biggest bank is Ul Haq?

In a 15 member team, he has picked 5 pacers for UAE and NO WAY PAK is going to play 3 young batsmen (Farhan, Talat & Asif) in starting XI, means Ul Haq has ensured MoHa must start in T20s - probably as opener as well.

Sarfraz has saved his job at Abu Dhabi with bat and credit goes to him, would be my MoM in this game unless Abbas takes another 5; otherwise I would have put a bet here that MoHa would lead PAK in WC 2019.

Really making me desperate to say that now I am not sure whom to pick as CS between Ul Haq, Haroon Rashid & Iqbal Qashim.
 
Fakhar-Babar or Fakhar-Farhan are opening combinations that I'd be fine with, although it's most likely going to be Fakhar-Hafeez :19:

Too much cribbing on this forum.

Two players that I am not convinced about are Sahibzada Farhan and Waqas Maqsood. Farhan is not a T20 player and Waqas Maqsood T20 stats are not that great. He is also in his early 30s. Junaid Khan would have been a better choice but I guess Mickey has a personal vendetta against him. Otherwise, no justification to keep Junaid out of any format right now based on his form.

I am not sure who are the explosive limited overs batsmen in domestic that can replace Farhan, Hafeez or even Talat? Apart from Khushdil, no other name comes to my mind. Don’t mention upcoming players without proven record.

Asghar has been pretty ordinary with the ball in domestic and is poor with bat too. Lucky to be picked for Pak A side.

Farhan is awful. If we play they line up we will lose 3-0
 
And I agree that Inzi has messed up A squad selections against NZ. However, you can’t comapre him with previous selectors, he is much better. Iqbal Qasim used to say on TV that we don’t have talent in Pakistan. He stuck with likes of Anwar Ali, Khurram Manzoor and M Sami. Similarly, Haroon Rasheed was no better. However, his A squad selection against England Lions was pretty good.

Following players have made debut or been selected under Inzi, the most I remember for any selector in past memory

- Imam Ul Haq
- Sahibzada Farhan
- Talat Husain
- Asif Ali
- Usman Salahuddin
- Shaheen Afridi
- Rauman Raees
- Shadab Khan
- Hassan Ali
- Mir Hamza

and maybe some more. So be thankful that he is the selector instead of Sallu or Qasim

Where is Junaid Khan? He is performing currently in domestic and internationals. Sarfaraz & Mickey Ignored Junaid till they tried every other option in Asia Cup. And then finally gave him a single chance He out performs all bowlers. Test matches not selected, T20 not selected.

Selected Waqas Maqsood instead of Junaid?? Looks like they just want to keep a Spot open for Amir by trying wildcards. Because Junaid Khan will make a permanent spot.

What is your obsession with Inzaman?everytime you come up with critical comments against him and your hatred against him can be seen by your calling him with incomplete name. Learn to be respectful to everyone. Imagine anyone calling you with your half name. Remember half name won't give its real meaning.

Any T20 lineup with Hafeez at three is not 'brilliant'.

I agree with you but I feel like in T20s the lack of a genuine spinner isn't as much of an issue. Shadab and Imad have both been excellent whenever they have played.

Hafeez is playing as an off-spinner. Then you have Shadab and Imad, followed by a few overs from Malik. Bilal comes in place of either Shadab or Imad, since Hafeez and Malik have a God-given right to play. So tell me, is the team management really that wrong?

First of all, your claim related to Raza Hasan. Why shift the goalposts?

Secondly, Imad is not a specialist spinner.

Thirdly, there are plenty of spinners better than Imad simply by virtue of the fact they can actually spin the ball. I have named plenty of them in my previous posts.

I do use his last part of the name when referring to PCB's CS, but I don't think you can say it hate - I am not deforming his name; rather using Inzi is probably more offensive if you take it that way.

I don't think, I have ever come with any critical comment for the batsman IUH, but as CS (or Captain), he has earned lots of it. I have 3 parts of my name - starting with Mohammad & ending with Hossain, and I have been called by all 3 names by different people - don't think I ever felt any insult.

Using "Ul Haq", has a history in it - traditionally, Muslim names are called by 1st name while Christian or Hindu names are called by the last (family) name, though we have seen using Miandad, Malik, Abbas .... First time he went to AUS and they used to put his name as "Ul Haq" - then Tony Greig spent about 3 minutes to get used to proper spelling it .... still whenever I see teams by him, Tony's spelling sounds at my ear :)

No offence, one of my all-rime favorite batsman - but caught in the worst possible job for him. Move on - Ul Haq is his family name, like his nephew's - in western world, most people will call him Ul Haq or Haq.
 
If full fit, Imad probably makes the T20 team on merit. T20 is a restrictive game and on UAE type wickets, he actually bowled his way to top 3 bowling ranking in T20; can bat as well. Shadab also makes the T20 team, because of his bowling variation - he doesn't have the control or the big leg-spinning stock ball, which won't make him successful in ODis or Tests, but when batsmen are forced to go for around 8-10 runs/over, Shadab can be quite handy. Besides, he fields brilliantly and can bat as well. In UAE, may be they could have gone for one more specialist spinner instead of 5 pacers (6 actually, Talat can also add few overs); but since MoHa will start, along with Malik it covers almost every spin base - an Offie, a Leggi & a SLAO; only missing is a left-arm Chinaman :)

Decent squad, just didn't like Hafeez to be selected & picking 5 pacers including UKS. Max. PAK can play is Afridi, Hasan/Maqsood & Fahim in XI. Could have picked a better hitter for middle order like Khusdil or Sohail Akhtar or even Maqsood - MoHa is just not good enough.
 
No point in crying about Hafeezs selection. Inzi will pick him as soon as he shows any sign of form.

Wanted 1 more specialist spinner in there instead of 1 of the pacers. But overall not that upset with this squad. Shazbinda should play all 3 games so we can see how good he is.

Raza Hasan has been given a chance based on his performances, which means he is one of the better performing specialist spinners in domestic cricket right now. My point stands.

Don't have time to go through all your posts, so if you can name a few of these outstanding specialist spinners, we would all like to hear it.

OK Hafeez is debatable but other 10 aren't.
 
Instead of Waqas Masood, Imad Wasim and Hafeez, I would have gone for Sohail Akhtar, either one of Kamran Ghulam or Zafar Gohar (maybe Kamran) and Junaid Khan.

How many overs has Hafeez bowled in this Test series ? Hafeez shouldn't even be in the team.

Shadab is an average spinner who is still raw and developing his craft - his batting is more developed than his bowling right now. Imad can keep it tight but isn't a big turner of the ball and has not played international cricket for a year. Malik hasn't been a threat as a bowler since 2006.

We'll get away with it against a weakened Australia team but as we saw in the Asia Cup, our lack of specialist spinners will be exposed as a weakness against stronger teams in UAE.

As for who those specialists spinners should be - I've already given the name of Bilal Asif. There's Zafar Gohar, Kashif Bhatti and Mohammad Asghar too so there's no shortage of options.

Are you sure? PAK's middle order for T20 is almost non existent - adding MoHa has made it even more weak. This weak AUS will be tamed only if Fakhar has a MoS performance, otherwise have you seen AUS's T20 squad - it's not what was in ZIM ...

Imad may not be a spinner but he definitely is the best LOI slow bowler for Pakistan.
 
Decent squad The only person that sticks out like a sore thumb is hafeez
 
Hafeez has no place in the T20 team. This format is for introducing new players and giving confidence to the less established players. There's absolutely no need to play an oldie like Hafeez who has maybe a year or two left in his international career.
 
Has been a swift rise for Waqas Maqsood. Even though he stagnated for a period of years in FC cricket but his rise has been pretty swift. I didn't notice him before Pakpassion interviewed him some months back.
Hopefully PP interviewing more guys would result in more call ups :P
Trying new people is only going to strengthen the bench strength which is good.
 
Sarfraz needs much needed rest and this was a good time as we already beat Aus in tri nation final. 18 months of non stop cricket playing all formats for a captain keeper batsman is not easy.

Want him fit and ready to go for NZ series.

Kashif Bhatti is in good form, I give you that. However his fitness might not be ideal for the current regime.

Too much hype for Zafar Gohar on this forum. He hasn’t exactly set the domestic circuit alight with his performances. Mohammad Asghar has been dropped from the team, after carrying drinks for a year. Which means the team management doesn’t really rate him much.

Look I agree we need specialist spinners, but they have to be good enough for international cricket. Besides Kashif Bhatti and Mohammad Irfan, I haven’t heard of any spinner doing extremely well in our domestic circuit. If I’m missing out on Gohar and Asghar’s outstanding performances, pardon my ignorance.
