The only two batsmen we have in this lineup who have the ability/intent to score runs are Haris and Rizwan. Everyone else subscribes to the traditional Misbah mindset of playing out the new ball and then scoring runs later. Unfortunately, none of these batsmen have the talent or technique to actually score runs. The best they can do is what you’ve seen today.

Honestly at this point I’d rather play Abbas as an opener than Abid if we really want to pursue a 1950’s approach to cricket. Abbas has a better defensive technique and concentration than both Abid and Shan. He’s gotten out, but there was only really a 5 run difference between his innings and Shans’

Probably because he wasn't very good with the white ball to start his career. For some reason in NZ as a bowler you have to make it into the odi side first before tests as a seamer.
