What's new

Pakistan bowled out for 273 in the first innings on Day 3 as England opt to enforce follow-on

Wouldn't have Rizwan as a captain but he should be involved in the leadership group going forward. He is a very smart cricketer and has leadership experience.

No top team would bother about rain in this situation.

The issue is that Pakistani fans don’t know ABC about top teams. This generation of fans will never understand what it is like to be a top team and what their thought process is.
i have been watching cricket longer than you and top team would not been able ro.win after conceeding 600 runs and losing 4 wicketsfor nothing.

Have we seen the last of Fawad Alam?

It is sad what has happened to him. He didn't get chances when he was at his peak. It was not a good idea to pick him for this series.

Afridi-esque six by Rizwan.

It's a relief that Sarfraz isn't in the side otherwise he would have told everyone about his ability to exhibit his "pathano walay" shots.

i'd like to congratulate Azhar Ali on a very fine innings.

I don't think it's enough - it's his first 50 in his last 4 series outside Asia. And I don't think he has any leadership skills.

But he's a very nice man and fair play to him, it's been an extremely good innings. Well done!

Rizwan has been the stand-out performer for Pakistan in this series. Has been fantastic with the gloves too

True.

Rizwan seems like he loves to stay under the radar. Sarfaraz was a bit of a show off.

There is a difference between batting out a draw and praying for rain.

If Pakistan can hold onto 15 wickets over the next 7 sessions, they will deserve all the credit and praise in the world. However, we have people here who are praying for rain and making calculations of how Pakistan can escape with a draw in that situation.

Unfortunately, I am sure that the team management are thinking along the same lines as well.

For proper teams with a winning attitude, the possibility of rain would not be a factor in this situation. You either bat out a draw or you lose.

Honestly speaking though, I think that Pakistan fans must have accepted their team is simply not good enough to bat out a draw. It is nice to have lofty expectations but that is the truth, against a rampaging Anderson, Broad, Archer and Woakes with all the time in the world, rain is necessary for Pakistan's chances to draw this Test. But agreed that on the whole it is better to have a winners mentality, it is difficult for everyone when this team is always getting mauled

Remember when we were told no one is better than Sarfraz in the country.

Mickey and Inzi have blood on their hands for delaying Rizwans career by a couple of years.

i just hope azhars century celebrations are somewhat muted in light of the match situation

Great sportsmanship Junaids :yk

Wasim throwing in random information like he has great understanding of whats going on in Pak cricket. Yes we dont have many offies but Bilal isnt the only one, Sajid Khan is also there who did really well in last season and is a decent batsman as well lower down the order.

Couple of hours ago he said that these are the best players we have like it was a fact. Determining how good the players are is pretty subjective and shouldnt be saying it as a fact.

Other than when Wasim talks about Pak's domestic cricket I dont have as much issues.

From 0 runs in the first test to 100 in this test match what a fight back unlike Asad Shafiq Azhar Ali has put up a fight well played

Great knock from Azhar with all the pressure he was under, a strong guy mentally with his batting especially.
Junaids a stat / puzzle for you, two Pakistani batsman on this tour have scored hundreds; and both were 30 or above! :yk3

Good innings Azhar. Well played buddy. If he really is to salvage this at all, he needs a big one, ideally a double here. Second new ball will be the challenge for him.

Well played but just hoping it's not the last flash of candle before dying and is proper revival and coming back to form, he should hand over captaincy to Babar and then he can just focus on opening role, he stepped can be serviceable for next two years in that role.

So what....rain is always a part of the game, specially in England. No shame in using that to your advantage.

I remember in 2007 India managed to draw the 1st test in Eng with the help of rain.
That rain robbed Eng of the win but India deserve all the praise for hanging on and allowing rain to come in play and that drawn game helped them to win the series.

Azhar Ali 100*:
- 17th Test century; 3rd vs England
- First outside UAE/Pak since June 2017(21 inngs)
- Second as captain

Me too. Sadly, they weren't. The whole team is pathetic in this regard and shows minnow mentality. They were cheering as if it was a 300, considering the match situation.

17th century.

One of the best test match centuries I have ever seen by a Pakistani batsman.

Scored under immense pressure and scrutiny.

Well done brother. :14:

Are you watching Junaids? :))

Yes, I just congratulated him. He's batted very well.

But it's his first away 50 in 16 innings in 9 Tests over 4 series and 3 years. And that's not good enough to stay in the team.

i agree, hes the captain and needs to think of team and match situation above his own personal milestones, am not saying he cant celebrate but its ott

Precisely. I've been critical of Misbah but when it comes to his predecessors, their blunders should not be forgotten either. Mickey and Inzi deserve to be criticised for not letting Sarfraz go.

I don't missing his yawning, racism and that pot belly he has. Rizwan is such a refreshing change. Sarfraz needs to retire.

Shadab could never play a knock like this btw.

LOL!

When all your batsmen are over 75, all the runs get scored by men over 75!

He's just said that again, saying how the current squad is the cream of PAK. Naaah.

He can still play for Pakistan and I would have no issues but I think needs needs to relinquish his captaincy so that Babar can start developing in that role. We need to start bringing in young players with some years in them and Azhar can be the experience around but we sure cant carry too many players on wrong side of their 30s so the rest will have to be discarded sooner or later.

Well done Azhar Ali for a good innings but the bottom line is this ^

Pathetic from England, it's almost like watching bowling machines; no fresh ideas and lack of vision, almost hoping for a wicket / waiting until Jimmy is ready for another spell

Exactly. Just noted and again he is mentioning it like he knows the players in domestic cricket.

Azhar should be getting 150 plus.

Think that's the only way to salvage this innings. A 100 alone won't do it to make up for his recent failures. Needs to really go big here. Rizwan needs to be thinking 3 figures too.

The funny thing is most of the time they wouldn't even have Rizwan in the squad. Now Rizwan is doing well they have a back up keeper.

We should be selecting a younger keeper as back up. Sarfraz is finished.

Would be nice for Rizwan to get a 100.

New ball due in 6 overs which will be crucial, still another 2 hours to bat today.

I love Shane Warne but please don't compare Azhar Ali to the fab 4. PP made this mistake and we have seen what happened after. He is not in their class.

Well done Azhar Ali for a good innings but the bottom line is this ^

I will be Ok with even Asad and Fawad making way for Haris and Saud. If Abid keeps on failing, Azhar can open and we can bring in another young player at no 3.

You know there’s certain people on here, sticking to their guns, Pakistan is this, Pakistan is that, I’m never wrong, get over yourselves, everybody is entitled to their opinion but come on! If your not prepared to hang on to the roller coaster that is Pakistan cricket let go before you end up going mad!

There's absolutely nothing in the pitch. Pakistan didn't concede 600 for no reason. That's why I'm so mad that Babar got out yesterday. He could've made his career-best here.

Azhar's 100s making rate is much better than Root as per numbers. Nasir bringing in topic of pitches and where he plays vs Root.

Finally, Azhar answers all the critics. A captain's innings, cautious and prudent. Just hope he can save the test and salvage pride for Pakistan.

Azar 100 >>>>>> Shan's 150

Shane Warne showing more appreciation towards Azhar Ali in a one minute summary then most people On this forum ever have . Shameful .

England bowling negative lines with 370 run lead, such a sissy captaincy from root. Grow up kid.

Wow — really interesting stat. True yeast of a batsman is to score runs away from home.
Azhar’s in a pretty illustrious list there

True. Still another innings to go for Babar so you never know.
