What's new

Pakistan bowled out for 273 in the first innings on Day 3 as England opt to enforce follow-on

they shouldnt think their work is done now, aa needs to go on and get double while rizzy needs to get his ton

The funny thing is most of the time they wouldn't even have Rizwan in the squad. Now Rizwan is doing well they have a back up keeper.

We should be selecting a younger keeper as back up. Sarfraz is finished.

Yeah because Sarfraz was so insecure of having Rizwan in the same squad. I do wish Mickey/Inzi had a spine and did what needed to be done.

Funny thing is Sarfraz is allowed to roam around this squad but you don't see Rizwan crying to the management "he is making me feel insecure" :))

Rizwan finds unusual ways to get out. Good innings though he's been good this tour. Let's hope he doesn't get into T20Is on the basis of his test performances.

Nasir's excitement whenever Eng achieves something in this series has been extraordinary.

We dont have any WK who can hit the ball in T20s, so I am not sure why Rizwan cant play.

well played Rizwan, just really unlucky there, by the way England will be in catch 22 situation now, will they inforce the follow on or will they give breather to their bowlers, considering the forecast enforcing following on seems only possibility if they wanna win the match. What you guys think?

Unlucky dismissal for Rizwan but part of the game I guess.

He’s high on confidence so I’d give him 1-2 games in T20I. Who knows, maybe he’ll do well.

I will be Ok with even Asad and Fawad making way for Haris and Saud. If Abid keeps on failing, Azhar can open and we can bring in another young player at no 3.

This could work as a stop gap while wait for a new opener because I'm not convinced with Imam or Sami Aslam even in the slightest. If Azhar was to open with Shan, I would like to see Babar move up to 3 and then see the rest of the middle order composed of Haris, Saud and Haider Ali.

They surely would go for the follow on I think as they wouldnt want to risk the weather in Eng.

Eng/Pak best XI in this series:-

Masood
Sibley
Crawley
Root
Babar
Buttler
Rizwan(wkt)
Woakes
Yasir
Broad
Anderson

I feel for Rizwan. That ball didn't deserve a wicket. When it's not your team's day, it's not their day I guess.

Good innings under pressure by Rizwan and not a lost cause which is where Shafiq comes into picture probably in the next innings.

PCT actually has a decent line up in batting coming up.. with Shan,Babar,Rizwan I think Imam should get a chance too..

Kohli brother, also don't forget

Root 17 100s in 97 tests.
Azhar 17 100s in 81 tests.

Yes bro.
And this conversation gets even better with Shane Warne throwing light on Azhar vs Root. Both have same number of centuries with Root having played 16 more Tests.

This is so accurate. If I was a betting man, I would bet on Shafiq to score a useless 50+ knock in the next innings.

They've bowled a lot of overs already. But if any bowling lineup can do it, it's the English. They're supremely fit and durable, apart from maybe Archer.

Pakistan top order should have defended well , there is a lot of runs on this pitch. Easy paced and consistent bounce pitch , a batsman's paradise.

I would keep Babar at 4 personally as that is where Kohli, Root and Smith the best batsmen of their respective teams bat. Reason is that at no 3 ball is slightly new more often than not and you dont want to lose your best batsman early in the innings.

Imam or Sami could go to no 3 to carry on that left right combination, Imran Butt is an option or maybe if Haider responds well to international cricket in white ball cricket he could be the way to go. All are openers who can easily adjust to no 3.

Rizwan should be groomed for Tests. Sarfaraz for now and Rohail next need to step up in LOIs.

He is out of place in that format. Unless the score is 20/4 and he comes in to grind, there's no other scenario I can see him playing a role in.

Mohammad Rizwan outside Asia
338 runs @ 42.25 in 8 inns
3*50
HS - 95 … good start :14:

Just for comparison:
Kamran Akmal - 954 runs @ 20.29 in 49 innings (6*50 & 11 Ducks)
Sarfraz Ahmad - 889 runs @ 23.39 in 41 innings (6*50 & 4 Ducks)

I agree but what is the other option? Even Srafraz cant hit in T20s.

Yes. As said in Rizwan's humble pie thread, he has outperformed every Pakistani keeper in the history in overseas conditions by scoring a 90 odd in Aus and 2 50s in Eng. Only Wasim Bari had a 50 in both places but today Rizwan has scored his second 50 in Eng.

Azhar will need to score a double for Pak to avoid follow on or Yasir will need to score his 2nd test 100.

Even I underrated him bro, before start of the series :))
Now I changed my opinion, technical he is very good batsmen.

I love when bowlers keep bowling this length and line to Yasir. Perfect for his swivel. Poor single though.

Oh my !! what a flick off the hips from Yasir against Jimmy. This is some track

Yup. AA needed to score a daddy hundred when MR was there. Now he needs a double if there is to be anyyy chance of avoiding FO.

Digression: Look at Shafiq's body language there lol

Outside Asia

Azhar Ali - 39 Tests
100's -5
50's -17
Average:32

Pujara -32 Tests
100's -5
50's -12
Average: 33

Looks like bad light. Yasir couldnt see the new darker cherry :inti

Don't want them to batting again tonight, just in case tomorrow turns out to be brighter. Will be interesting to see how AA goes about now with strike rotation and strike rate. Won't get to face Bess so if he is throw his bat on the ball, will have to be against JA and SB.

Prediction.

Pakistan 2nd Innings today at stumps 40/3
Babar, Shan and Azhar out. Abid and Hockey Player will start tomorrow morning.

I would keep Babar at 4 personally as that is where Kohli, Root and Smith the best batsmen of their respective teams bat. Reason is that at no 3 ball is slightly new more often than not and you dont want to lose your best batsman early in the innings.

I guess the role of the best batsman has changed slightly in modern times. Traditionally, you had your best bat at 3 but now it is number 4.

In principle I agree with Babar at 4 because you want your best player to have the maximum chance of scoring runs, i.e. after the new ball but I'm not a fan of an inexperienced player batting at no.3, which is arguably the most pivotal batting position in the team. When Babar was new to the test side, his first tour of Australia wasn't so good because he wasn't ready to bat at 3.

Less established younger players should bat at 4-6 unless they are openers by trade. When they become established that's when they should be promoted up the order.

24 more overs are left today.

What should be Azhar's strategy now? Start slogging or keep on blocking?

Great news for Yasir fans :yasir

Most 20+ scores for Pakistan in last 12 months outside home
6 - Mohammad Rizwan
5 - Yasir Shah
4 - Babar Azam
4 - Shan Masood
3 - Azhar Ali / Asad Shafiq

And Yasir batted at 8

Yasir has outdone Asad with the bat. Who would've thought?

Such a beautiful feeling when you are following your national mediocre team but you don't care about win or loss.
Pakistan Cricket makes us this strong.

Don't think Pakistan will be able to hang too far now. Azhar has limitations with bat.

M. Gough is a brilliant umpire.

And that was quite a catch for someone who allegedly cannot keep.

Shaheen seems to be really terrible with the bat. He reminds me of Chris Martin.

247/8.

YK needs to work with him and improve his batting.
