It seems to be a never-ending plight for Pakistan in the shorter formats. While their downfall remained prior to the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales, things have only gone down further for the Men in Green following the conclusion of the showpiece event. Returning home after the 50-over World Cup, Pakistan played host to Sri Lanka in three ODIs and as many T20Is in Karachi and Lahore in early October. While they won the ODIs, 2-0, all hell broke loose when they were whitewashed in the three T20Is against second-stringed Islanders. This led to the removal and sacking of Sarfaraz Ahmed as Babar Azam replaced him as skipper in the shortest format.
The Misbah-ul-Haq-coached Pakistan commenced their tour of Australia with three T20Is with hopes of a revamp under a new leader. However, the script remained the same as they lost to the Aaron Finch-led side by 2-0. The 2009 champions lost the series decider by 10 wickets when they had a chance to sign off the series at 1-1. Put into bat in Perth, Azam and Co. were restricted for 106 for 8 as only two of their batters crossed single digits. In reply, Finch and David Warner's unbeaten 109-run stand ended proceedings in a flash.
Thus, the former Pakistan pacer, known as Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akhtar expressed in disappointment on his latest episode from his YouTube channel. He said, "If Pakistan continues to play in this clueless manner they will continue to suffer. It is a sad scenario. The World Cup is next year. They need to think about what they want to do. Pakistan needs to get up. The world has moved on. Pakistan is still playing 80’s cricket. They can’t do that."
The Men in Green have only a solitary win in the calendar year in the shortest format. They still hold the numero uno spot in the latest ICC T20I rankings but have teams like Australia and England breathing down their neck in the standings. Talking about Australia, the Yellow Brigade are on a rampage and attained their longest winning streak (7) with win over Pakistan. Both sides will now lock in the two Tests, which will mark the visitors' campaign in the ICC Test Championship.

More quotes from Akhtar:
"Pakistan have lost with a big 'phainty', this is what is happening with the Pakistan side, they are clueless"
"Australia has beaten Pakistan as if we were a team of children"
"David Warner, who seemed disinterested in scoring runs, gave a 'phainta' to Pakistan side"
"If Australian team had bowled more short balls and done bodyline bowling, which they didnt, then its possible that a few of our players would have been injured too"
"When Finch hit Hasnain for a six or when Warner hit Imad for a six, then you find out exactly about your caliber"
"We have to play T20 World Cup in Australia - will we have enough fast-bowlers for this? do we have enough spinners for this? Will we have to go with Imad Wasim? so many questions that we need to think about"
"The new management has a few months to think about this - I feel that Misbah has too many jobs to look after"
"He has to take tough decisions and we cannot be beaten up like a team of children - Pakistan team is being hammered now"
"If you cannot speak English then dont speak it, atleast speak in Urdu correctly, tell us the team correctly in Urdu; Babar Azam came on and could not tell us the team in Urdu, said Naseem Shah is playing"
