Pakistan should think of this Champions Trophy as an opportunity to improve their ODI rankings rather than just focusing on the title. If Pakistan manages to beat India and South Africa and Bangladesh loses to Australia and England then Pakistan will move to number 6 position in ICC ODI rankings.

In order to do this, Pakistan will have to play positively and take every game as an opportunity to express themselves as a good ODI side rather than worrying about the results. They shouldn't give much importance to the India game, just go out there and have fun. Pakistan has nothing to lose here. The are already the weakest team in the competition on paper with no dynamic players in the squad.

Pakistan will also have to make some bold decisions. I agree with a lot of other people here that Sarfaraz will be a waste at any position lower than 4. Even though Pakistan lost the England series very badly, still Sarfaraz was the leading run scorer from both teams. Other than Sarfaraz and Babar, I see no one who is suited well to modern ODIs. Although this isn't an ideal squad, but we don't have any other players. I would prefer Azhar over Shehzad because he might show some intent and try to play positively. We could try Fakhar also, but he should also look to rotate the strike. Hafeez will be picked because of the bowling. Ideally, Hafeez should come lower down the order because we have absolutely no one to hit big there, but he won't so he should just open. I am not sure how Malik and Harris can fit in one ODI team, but I am sure they both will play.

My eleven from the current squad would be:

Azhar > Fakhar > Shehzad
Hafeez
Babar (Must be No.3)
Sarfaraz (Must be No.4)
Harris
Malik
Imad > Fahim
Wahab
Amir > Juniad
Shadab
Hasan

Haris at #6 is a waste.

Azhar
Hafeez
Babar
Shoaib
Haris
Sarfraz
Imad
Shadab
Fahim
Hassan
Amir

This will not go good with many neutral fans if this happen
It is not impossible but tough task
I hope we win two games

More importantly, they will also move to the semi finals

Yes, but they shouldn't think about that. Thats the only way how they could achieve this. If they manage to do this miracle, then just focus on the Sri Lanka game, then semi-final.

I can only see Pakistan winning of the two matches how ever I do see Bangladesh losing both matches against Australia and England

I disagree with some players in your lineup.
Fakhar should open with Azhar or Shehzad , while if is Azhar is allowed he should play against India because in England he is the better track record , although he is not a really good player but he is better than Shehzad in some cases while he also provides experince.
Secondly after keeping for fifty overs u cant expect sarfraz to play a long innings cuz keeping is a tiring job he is best at 3 and not late at that.
Full strength bowling lineup should be played including Amir Hasan and Junaid , while Shadab and imad and mailk may provide help with spin

Wow. That would be 'roshogolla' time for Pak fans.

Not really. Pakistan is a cricket proud nation and any ranking below number 5 is a source of embarrassment for us, specially when we hardly ever dropped below number 5 or 6 before 2010.

However, times have changed a bit and now England and New Zealand have good team too, otherwise they always used to be our whipping boys. Bangladesh has also improved in leaps and bounds. The Windies team is hardly a roll-over. The only team that is on the way down is Sri Lanka.

We can beat SL and SA, but might find it tough to beat the parosis who are fresh off the back of IPL.

Indias player form hasnt been quite well both jadhav and pandey have failed in IPL while yuvraj hasnt been performing at top potential while kohli and dhawan are just at average form , Ashwin hasnt played for a time now . its the best chance too beat them while we have the best team at the moment available at our disposal

we will warm up tomorow and keep warming untill end of the next warm up macth and then we will win every single macth .
yeh mary dil ki batt hai 26::26:

Well, if today's warmup is anything to go by...

nothing to go by - Aussies could have got SRL under 250 & chase it inside 40 overs. Warm-up games doesn't tell anything. ENG & SAF are doing the right thing - playing proper ODI before the main event.

We should just concentrate on the tournament. Boosting our ranking is a bonus. There is enough pressure on the players with it being a tournament, no need to add any more unnecessary pressure.

There is enough bilateral series after the tournament to improve our icc ranking.
