Pakistan Cricket Board and the players on a collision course!

They must have had some performance in the World Cup clause in those new world cups

Apparently those contracts are getting ripped up
the World Cup started earlier this month, whereas the players havn't been paid in 4 months

Good that the PCB are now back tracking on the contracts. The players thought that they had played the PCB by securing their lottery contracts before the WC but now they will have to account for their performances in this WC

Of course they should be paid in this day and age...

But, you know, representing the country should be a privilege not a job.
Look at the contracts that the ECB have just handed out to their players, most of whom are the wrong side of 30.
The three year deals for the top tier are worth 800 K a year — and even then certain players would not sign the full multi year deal.
In the modern age, all the power lies with players not the governing bodies, because of the riches to be earned in franchise cricket.

Like so much, yet again the PCB is so behind the times they might as well be travelling in a horse and cart when the rest of the world is in a Tesla.

I think they should be paid, but you've set me up nicely to say:

Look what the ECB got for their money, and we know what we'll be getting for ours with Pak as this WC debacle has once again (BTW) proven.

That is the problem: the power lies with the players.

Atleast wait till WC is over. Why demoralize your players when they are playing biggest games of their careers? Pak still has chance if NZ loses rest of matches.

What lottery contract?

Pakistani players are poorly paid.

The A contract of PCB pays around $15500 per month. Thats around 185000 per year.

The highest contract for CSA in 21-22 was De Kock with $350k.

WICB's highest contract is $300k.

BCCI shares 26 per cent of its revenue with players.

13 per cent with international players
10.6 pee cent with domestic players

Rest at junior level.

PCB shares 3 per cent.

You really think PCB gace its players some lottery contract?

No wonder someone like Shaheen will break his back in ILT20 PSL County and elsewhere. And in the process a Thoroughbred will become a mill pony.

Have you seen how England have performed in this World Cup…..?

The new contracts were announced the day of the game against Sri Lanka by which time it was already clear England were having a disastrous World Cup.
Jofra got a two year deal and has barely bowled a ball in years

Yes, they've been woeful and Jofra getting a 2 year contract having not bowled in about 4 years is truly absurd. Criminal in fact.

I do absolutely believe they should be paid, but if I had it my way, I'd only want people that are interested in playing for the shirt; I realise that this is a pipe dream these days.

I don't want the fortunes of the NT carried by money-driven mercs.

Very good PCB

The big 4 should be the last to receive their salaries!

Why is no one talking about this?. This seems death of Pakistan cricket. Pathetic PCB

PCB is a mafia cricket board, doesn't deserve honest players like Babar, Shaheen and Rizwan. They only deserve fixers who have made them proud every passing decade.

100% these cake boys need to play for the country not them selves
Its a professional sport and they need to be paid on time... Simply atrocious from the PCB, totally unprofessional as usual...

This means that when this leech Zaka Ashraf came in, he stopped the salaries for players... And in a months time his tenur of 6 months will come to an end...

That is what happens when a non cricketing person takes over as a chairman whitout any prior knowlegde of the game so u move in the wrong direction and that is what happening in PCB right now.

To be honest a non cricketing person is right person to administer the board as it needs to be profitable and run like a business.
It’s being run like a socialist sarkari office and that’s why it’s struggling.

Zaka Ashraf is one of the politician's class mate and close friend. Won't be surprised if he is trying to introduce the system in the PCB.

Serious question (I moved out of Pakistan very young and don't understand the nuances of government politics):

Can or will PCB ever be privatised i.e. not controlled by the government and run autonomously? why or why not?

It is a part of PCB history that management and players are never on the same page. A great example of this was during the era of Ijaz Butt.

It looks like there's been leaks galore since the WC exit:

"Post-World Cup Woes: PCB Leaks Central Contract Details Amid Pay Hike Dispute, Players Secure Historic Salary Increases"
After a disappointing performance in the ICC World Cup 2023, internal tensions within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have come to light as details of a pay hike dispute have been leaked. Allegations suggest that players advocated for increased salaries, prompting accusations of prioritizing financial gain over national duties.

Cricket Pakistan reports that the national cricket team players are poised to receive significant salary increases, with elite-level players potentially seeing a rise of over 200%. The players stood firm on their demand for an improved pay structure leading up to their participation in the ICC World Cup 2023.

The PCB has categorized centrally contracted players into four groups, with those in the top category, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi, anticipated to receive a substantial 202% increase in their monthly salary, potentially reaching 45 lakh Pakistani rupees, according to information reportedly disclosed by a PCB source.

Players in the B category, such as Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, and Shadab Khan, are expected to receive a 144% increase, bringing their monthly salary to 30 lakh PKR. Category C players, including Imad Wasim and Noman Ali, will see a 135% hike, totaling around 17.60 lakh Pakistani rupees. D-category players, such as Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf, can expect a 127% rise, resulting in a monthly pay of 11.32 lakh Pakistani rupees.

Babar Azam, a key figure in the contract negotiations, hailed the deal as historic, expressing satisfaction that the agreement is fair and beneficial for both players and the PCB.

“It is by far a historic deal. I am extremely happy and satisfied that we have reached an agreement with the PCB. It has been a lengthy and, at times, challenging negotiation process, but I believe we have reached a fair and beneficial agreement for both parties,” said Babar Azam prior to the World Cup.

Below is the list of players in each category of Pakistan Central Contracts:

Category A: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi

Category B: Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Shadab Khan

Category C: Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, and Noman Ali

Category D: Aamir Jamal, Arshad Iqbal, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Ihsanullah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shan Masood, Tayyab Tahir, Usama Mir, and Zaman Khan.

Apparently these contracts resulted in increased tensions in the squad where the Category C and D players were very bitter that Babar and Rizwan got themselves lucrative deals and they didn't give a damn about the C and D players.

Nawaz and imam in category B LOL? There should be another category Babars friends and both should be in that list. Ain't no way we are giving central contract again to crap player like Nawaz imam hassan ali type finished players. And they babar Shaheen Rizwan getting 55 lac but still wants to play 6-7 leagues boy they are money hungry people with ZERO worth performances

PCB has finally decided to release the salaries of the players after few months.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Pakistan Cricket Board has started clearing the dues of national team players, which were held up for the last few months because of issues relating to new central contracts.

A PCB official confirmed that majority of the players offered new contracts had signed the document and their dues had been cleared dating back to June.

"A few who have not signed as yet will do so in the next two days and their dues will also be cleared swiftly," he said.

While the old central contracts expired in June, the new contracts list was not announced until late September because of differences between the players and the cricket board.

The team then left for India to play in the World Cup.

Eventually, the board gave in and announced big hikes in the monthly retainership of players and also confirmed they would get a three per cent share annually from the ICC revenue the board gets on a yearly basis.

A reliable source stated that some of the players, including Iftikhar Ahmed and Shan Masood among others, had not signed the document as they were not happy with being placed in category D of the new contracts, but later relented after being assured they would be promoted soon.

A big issue was made out of the fact that Pakistan players had not been paid their monthly salaries while they were playing in the World Cup. Around the same time, relations between the team and the PCB also soured over some statements made by chairman, Zaka Ashraf, on the team performances.

The Pakistan team could not make it to the World Cup semifinals after losing five of the nine games.

Babar Azam, who resigned as captain across formats following the debacle, Muhammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi (who has been made T20 captain), are the only three players given category A contracts, which means they will get much higher monthly retainers compared to the other three categories.

After the pay hikes, the three are being paid a monthly retainer of around Pak Rs 6.2 million including taxes. They will also take home match fees, bonuses and share from the ICC revenue and other team kit sponsorship deals.

PCB

If PCB made agreement with players and fixed the grades then PCB needs to clear the players due….. otherwise if players approach Court then it will be harmful for PCB

What do you think of this theory that has been floating around?

Babar was getting popular within the team. He fought tooth and nail with the PCB for substantially higher team wages. And for the first time, the players got a share of ICC revenue.

The board was annoyed with him for doing that and threw him under the bus. Then they got him to resign, and now we have split captains. Sort of divide and rule.

The other theory is that the PCB and PSL Franchises were not happy with Babar's and Rizwan's anti gambling, PSL surrogacy stances due to which the govt banned these betting companies from the PSL and Pakistan Cricket and hence the PSL Franchises had to face huge losses. Each Sponsor was paying approximately $6-8 million per franchise.

Babar and Rizwan have apparently declined contracts from these companies worth Rs 250-300 million.

As far as the Pay rises, revenue share is concerned. This has actually further divided the team, a lot of the C and D category players were unhappy that Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen got themselves lucrative contracts at the expense of those below them.

Or Babar isn't a captain and he realised it 3 years too late
