They’re behind the times with modern sport. Most teams in all sport do not fine players like this. They prioritise keeping confidence high. We think we can somehow fine and criticise teams into winning. It doesn’t work. The more pressure you are under, the lower the confidence, the worst the sporting display you will put out. Yes these sports stars are privileged but it’s not the way to produce best results.
Ironically fines are used. But they are used for other things. Don’t meet fitness can result in fines. Not doing the diet or training set out for you, fines. Late for team meetings, fine. Teams even drop players from matches if they break the rules. These are the ways fines and criticism can be used. It makes the players do all the background stuff in order to allow them to give them best in performances. Not punishing them for the result of the match, which is largely out of their control. All you can do is try your best and hope it goes your way. As with any other team. You do the hard work before hand, try your best on the pitch and that’s all there is to it.
PCB and media tends to be overboard in criticism and fining after match results. And too lenient on stuff like diet, fixing, strength training, fitness. All things that the player is easily able to control.
