Might be a good idea to keep batting and see out the second new ball.Twenty more runs to get it up to 300, then declare.
Give the bowlers time to have a decent work out. It's harder to get people out in daylight.
Umar Akmal played four First Class innings this season, in two low-scoring rounds.
He hit 1 century and 2 fifties and averaged 58.21.
I don't agree with him then going off to the BPL, but he needs to earn a living.
That's great.
What was his average in the last year and the year before that in first class?
I heard he wasn't doing well in first class.
I am happy to say to you what my thoughts are on Umar Akmal.
I think that he is the most gifted Pakistan batsman since Zaheer Abbas. But those gifts need to be backed up by a tight defence.
I think that Umar Akmal has a moderate defence - about the same level as Mohammad Hafeez or Shan Masood, but with much more attacking ability than them.
When he was dropped from the Test team aged 21 with an average of 36 compiled entirely outside Asia in 16 Tests, his defensive development was pretty much exactly where you'd expect it to be.
But he knew perfectly well that his dumping was unfair, and that it was probably permanent until Misbah retired.
So Umar Akmal - and I disagree with him for doing this - gave up on improving his Test/First Class game, and under the thrall of Shahid Afridi, decided to become a T20 slogger and mercenary for hire.
But I think he underestimated how long Misbah would last.
This season was the first one with the prospect of Misbah retiring imminently, and all of a sudden Umar Akmal batted properly at First Class level again, after Mickey Arthur had told him that if he did, there was a way back.
I have seen this before. Graham Gooch had a similar attitude towards talent as opposed to hard work, which ended the Test careers of several very gifted but lazy players.
Ok...let's say I accept that line of argument.
Why hasn't Ummy bhai not scored like a madman when his spot in ODIs were in danger then?
I don't think he has made good choices about his mentors.
He seems to think that Shahid Afridi is a respected cricketer.
That's great.

he went without scoring a 100 for 3 FC seasons. This season he left FC games for no reason.
Played only 2 games, scored a second innings hundred vs a hopeless PIA side (Who finished last this season and relegated) off 99 balls (You can imagine how he batted) when his team had a 200 runs 2nd innings lead...
What did Pak bowlers have for food? Haha.

So as of now:
Azhar Ali and Babar Azam are in good form.
Mohammad Nawaz, Sarfraz Ahmed, Asad Shafiq and Sami Aslam are in decent touch.
Younis Khan is not in great form.
Misbah is badly out of nick.
Nothing, they are just playing against a bunch of batsmen who are simply nowhere near international standard.
This match has given us nothing but false hopes. Even our A team would have won this match comfortably.
The batting is the real issue here. The opening pair are a tad "much of a muchness"...both seem to block either end and the scoreboard stops ticking.
The only way Azhar/Aslam's tactics would work is if the other scores the runs, while his partner can do what he wants. When both do the same neither the team or the batsmen advances.
We won because the side we played is a darn club side and has made us look good with the ball, despite the batsmen, once again, struggling to put 300+ on the board.
This will surely come back to haunt us when we start the 1st Test.
