Pakistan defeat New Zealand by an innings and 16 runs to win 2nd Test & level series 1-1

JibranAnsari now even if win now but my point will still stand,, we made it a lot harder for our selves and gave NZ a sniff,,,, Never enforce follow on even if you lead by 400 runs unless time is the issue.

Bhai when you have a lead of 328 you trust your bowlers to wrap it up before that after getting team out under 100 in the first innings.

This wicket is still good for batting, the 1st inns collapse was down to yasir brilliance rather then pitch becoming bad all of a sudden.

The more I see Pakistan in Test cricket post-Misbah, the more I realize how good Graeme Smith was as a captain. There can be only two things about Mickey Arthur - either he is powerless or that he is as clueless as Sarfraz. I would believe it's the latter. Also shows why nobody in the SA team really came out praising Mickey's tenure.

Pakistan may even win this match but what should've been a routine victory has been turned into an almighty effort now. And as it has always been, victory would sweep all the issues under the carpet. The follow on decision was stupid and if Pakistan wins, nobody would care to review this and in all probability would repeat the mistake next time.

Sarfraz is a robotic captain. He put his team under pressure on a 5th day wicket.

Any lead under 100 would be OK. If NZ manage a lead of 150, we are in trouble for sure.

Some embarrassing wrist-slitting going on in here. It's almost as if people don't realize that test cricket is hard work and the opposition batsmen aren't obliged to gift their wickets to the home team.

I don't think majority of people on this forum understand test cricket.

I dont think the follow on was a bad decision. 300 runs lead with dismissing them on 90 in the first inning. Every captain in the world would have thought for the follow on and get them out at around the same score or a bit higher.

I did say making NZ follow on was not a good idea. They may still get away with it.

Making NZ follow on was the right decision, the Dubai wicket gets slower and it becomes tougher to get wickets on Day 4 and 5. It's not the same as Abu Dhabi. Batting again would have shut out their chance of victory but would have also given them a chance at batting for a draw. This way, it's all in our hands.

I said it yesterday too that Pakistan in all likelihood will win the match barring some miracle but it's still the wrong decision. Why give the opposition even 1% of a sniff? In the UAE, you don't ever enforce the follow on, more so on the 3rd day. Had it been the 4th day with bleak weather forecast, the follow-on would've been absolutely the right call. Having made NZ bat on the 4th and 5th day with 550 to get would also have served as a mental mountain. As it is, you have also subjected your bowlers to bowling 160 overs on a trot.

Even now, if Pakistan wins, the slow batting in the 1st innings was a disaster. Just because you win, doesn't mean that it was the right thing.

This isn't wrist slitting. It's called reflection on your mistakes.

when lead is above 320 then you do enforce the follow on.

You were wrong and you are still wrong.

Pakistan will win with 1 full day to spare, and rest for the bowlers as well.

This is ridiculous in terms of selection and finding hte right bbowlers!!
I mean imagine the pressure on Yasir . . The guy has to win you every single test match in the UAE! And when he is "off" . . . we struggle! I understand he is the main bowler . . but come on! he needs support . . . . if only he has someone bowling well, taking wickets and applying the pressure on the other end, he perhaps can be more effective! But it just feels like its either him or no one! hence he has to bowl a gazillion overs!!

And how many overs do you think the scratchy Pakistan batting order would have needed to score those extra 220 runs ? Au contraire, there isn't even any guarantee that they would not have succumbed under pressure after seeing the New Zealanders being bowled out for under a hundred. It happened two years ago when Misbah failed to inflict the follow-on and we were bowled out by Davendra Bishoo for 120.

We are trailing in this series, so have to grab the initiative when it presents itself. The only point on which you are correct is that our slow batting in the first innings hindered us massively and if it wasn't for Yasir Shah's extraordinary spell, we would have been struggling to win this match. Nonetheless, the follow-on decision was the only rational decision under the circumstances. It is embarrassingly bizarre to be worried about the opposition winning a match when your team has a lead of over 300 runs after the first innings.

If we win this game we have pretty much done it with 3 passengers - Asif, Imam and Hafeez who all need to be dropped.

Sometimes it's better to swallow your pride and admit you are wrong. These posts justifying the ridiculous criticism are even worse

This is exactly what I told him few minutes ago that.

He was wrong and now justifying his statement makes it look even worse.

Pak played splendid cricket.

Great to see yasir picking so many wickets
Abbas bowling looked flat
May be the wicket is slow for his pace
He looked low on energy

Which point?

Hopefully it Asif's last match unless Izzi play him for couple of years in the name of consistency.

Throughout this test series till now Hassan Ali has delivered some beauties

Great fight back by Kiwis. I think, 10 hours batting has taken its toll on Haris, hence only 3-4 overs by him & 27 by Bilal; otherwise Hari is actually better spinner. Yasir himself took care of his work load in 1st innings, otherwise another 75+ overs Test was on cards.

Have to say, dissapointed with Mickey for his squad picks in an UAE series (or his motive - happy with pay cheques & keep everyone happy).

What a pathetic decision to follow on
New Zealand will make a come back
We have lost this
We are so many runs short
We will not be able to chase even 20 runs

Looooool

Where are all those analysts hiding now

Hasan Ali is terrific. My only concern is if he loses his pace as he gets older, he might be less effective. He doesn't seem like someone who can bowl quick while still bowling within his limits, like Steyn for example.

Hasan seems to give it a 120 percent so he can bowl around 140 kph or more. I wonder how effective he will be as he gets older and perhaps the intensity decreases a bit.

This is not a criticism but an observation. If he can maintain his pace into his early 30s, we might be looking at a potential atg.

Yasir does take 20 wickets in 2 Tests this series, but he should have won that Dubai Test.
