What's new

Pakistan defeat South Africa in 3rd T20I by 27 runs to finish tour with consolation victory

Yeah let’s continue to drop Amir from the T20I squad. Had we played him in place of Shinwari or Hasan last game we would have won.

Amir is an ideal T20 pacer now. All he has is a good defensive line and length with those deceiving cutters. While he'll serve Pak well in the T20s, he won't be an effective wicket tacker in the 50 over format.

Proof that Pakistan are a more dangerous side when defending a total than chasing one. However we did not play badly chasing huge totals in the first two games and could have won both of them. It was that close. Lower order batting needs improvement for sure. Need another genuine batting all rounder apart from Imad.

We just need another Proper batsmen like Babar... done with allrounder.. even Hasan can smoke a few out of park

His "phenomenal record" is due to his average of 11 and 12 against Zim and SL. He couldn't pick a wicket against Afg or Ind and despite those 4 tailender wickets against SA, he still averages 26 against them. Garbage bowler.

Yeah and then there's Amir who can't buy a wicket against anyone. :))

He gave 63 in a T20 so yeah let's drop him from all formats. You call Inzi out, but that's exactly how our selectors think.

Persist with him in ODIs unless you're trying to bring in an Arshad/Musa/Bashir along with Junaid in the squad.

We have seen Amir's track record, he is out of form and will regain it soon. Shinwari cannot bowl a spell like CT final or WT20 vs Ind like Amir did even if he lived five times over. Pathetic bowler. Can't believe he is being compared to Amir.

This is absolutely spot on he can play t20i’s plus leagues no burden excuse plus money plus for us some youngster who believes that representing ur country is some thing to be proud of and give you best in odi and test

I thoroughly dislike Shamshi... I hope he embarrasses himself out there.

Gun barrel straight Faheem. Sipamla gave him too much credit and played for some kind of movement.

Ensures Faheem takes a 2 fer or 3 fer and have something to complain about once he is dropped.

Amir is our best T20I pacer. I believe he was rested in the earlier games? His stats are amazing to say the least.

Good captaincy from Malik in this game. Better bowling changes than the last two matches. Although doesn't help when you've got a Shinwari in your line-up.

Amir sealing his place for next serious

He should have been never out of LO side - I hope PP has seen enough of Shinwari, Hasan & Fahim ..... will see Raees & JK as well if they start to play regularly. Fans have unrealistic expectations, because most of them grew up watching or fantasizing the 1990s generation, but didn't develop the maturity to differentiate between China product and German product.

Malik messed up when he won the toss and elected to field in the 2nd game. This South African side has no experienced batsmen, so runs on the board would have been enough to close this series out.

I think we can fit Anwar Ali in this line up as batting all rounder

I just wish Shaheen does not make a hash of an important catch in the WC. Imagine him dropping Kohli.....................................

Shaheen 3.3 overs 11-1

That Shaheen vs Khalil thread is an insult to Shaheen.

Shaheen is the worst fielder ive seen in a long time.
Lacks anticipation , lacks confidence, slow mover, poor catcher ofcourse

Imad Wasim has been the standout on this tour. Looks like he has really come of age. Seems to be a good candidate for captaincy. Eagerly waiting how he does in the PSL as captain. Has a relatively average team you work with though.

Shadab will catch him the next ball!!

4 overs 23-1

Khaleel today 4 overs 48-1

Talk nah

Oh didn't know Khaleel was playing in parallel, in any case I was joking. I'm a big fan of Shaheen as it is. Much better than pathetic Shinwari.

Shinwari had tears in his eyes after last match. Poor guy.

What's wrong with Hasan? He's fantastic.

For betterment of PAK youngsters, I hope you stop hyping/backing anyone - it started with Hasan, then one by one Fakhar, Fahim, Shadab, Usman ......... please, don't write anything about Shaheen - Hasan is fine.

I wish PCB can arrange their home-matches in SA.

Decent crowd and good pitches.

I have backed Shaheen since the start :afridi

Nothing wrong in hyping up Shadab, hes a future star.
Rest are garbage

RSA 141/9 thanks to Morris. It could have been worse for them

SA have been found wanting when chasing a total (even though Pak scored 20 runs less than what they were chasing themselves in the first two games)

How long are we gonna milk those spells for? He's had enough big games since then. Enough of a sample size since CT to show what he's all about.

Shinwari is not some legend, but it really doesn't require much to be a better pick than Amir in ODIs these days. I'd even take Rumman over him in ODIs.

Dont think anyone's comparing anymore. Khaleel needs a couple of years of FC and needs to increase his pace. Shaheen is already a finished product

Afridi needs some "tricks". He has confidence going his way seeing as though he's young. Wait for Warner to get under his skin.

As I've said, he needs at least one peak and trough to fully comprehend cricket (he's not ready for test cricket).

In all honesty, I think he'll be more attuned to the ferocious attitude type bowler, ala Steyn.

So many "What if" scenarios for Pak in the entire series.

1st test- 104/1 in 2nd innings, Amls's catch dropped by Fakhar, Azhar's catch controversy
2 ODIs- Rain and Phlukewayo
1st, 2nd T20- Shinwari's last over, Malik's finish

Just a little bit of Luck, Pak would have gone down 2-1 in tests, won ODIs 3-2, Won T20s 2-1.

Good series over all. Young guns are competing hard. Great series for Babar, Imam, Shaheen.

He's got maturity at such a young age and looks humble. He will be a superstar if he already isn't

True. Maybe you guys see the "humble", but I don't. I see an attitude. In fact, I think I commented that he seems "cocky".

I honestly see the ferocious attitude. Anyway, I'm sure he'll make a fine bowler in his late 20s.

PAKISTAN finally did justice to their standing as the No. 1 ranked side in the shortest format when they beat the Standard Bank Proteas by 27 runs in the final KFC T20 International match at SuperSport Park on Wednesday evening.

The result nevertheless had no effect on the outcome of the series which the Proteas took by a 2-1 margin, having won the first two matches.

It enabled Pakistan to restore some pride after having lost both white ball series.

As always, the Pakistan bowlers did a good job for their side, defending a target of 162 with Mohammed Amir, Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf sharing 7 wickets between them. But it was the miserly bowling of Imad Wasim and Shaheen Afridi up front that did the real damage.

The Proteas top order never got going in spite of an innings of 41 (35 balls, 2 fours and 2 sixes) from the ever reliable Rassie van der Dussen.

Chris Morris backed up his two wickets with a maiden half-century (55 not out off 29 balls, 5 fours and 3 sixes) but he was left with too much to do and the match was effectively settled with an over to spare when the Proteas needed an impossible 40 runs off the last 6 balls.

The other statistical highlight for the Proteas came from Beuran Hendricks who returned career best figures of 4/14.

Shadab Khan was named KFC Man of the Match for his two wickets as well as his batting in the last over of Pakistan’s innings when he hit 21 runs that turned out to be critical with only the No. 11 batsman to partner him.

The KFC Man of the Series award went to South African captain David Miller.

It was'nt even a consolation win. Pakistani players played the most selfish cricket. Minus Shadab, from Rizwan to captain Malik to Tallat down to Asif Ali and Faheem. They were all wanting to stay not out and held back shots on below average bowling.

Then in bowling they dropped many chances. When Rizwan and Malik were batting it felt we are back in 2013. I felt so angry I switched off the tv. Propelling selfish players like Babar Azam, Shafiq, Azhar and Imam have made this team into bunch of jokes who are playing for their places.

This tour in all 3 formats was all about selfishness, personal greed and playing for their spots. Worst even tour in 2 years. Even worse than the NZ tour where they lost 0-5 but at least the team looked to fight and compete.

The only advantage of having fielders with good height like shaheen is that they might just catch the balls that might end up for a 6, due to long hands. For ground fielding im afraid they find it difficult to bend and grasp the balls in time.

Pakistan notch impressive consolation win in final T20I
SA vs Pak, 3rd T20I, report

An impressive collective effort from Pakistan’s bowlers helped them secure a 27-run victory in the third T20I against South Africa, albeit a consolation win with the hosts taking the series 2-1.

Having been put into bat, the tourists posted 168/9, and David Miller’s Proteas could only reach in 141/9 in reply as the away bowling attack did an excellent job of taking regular wickets and keeping things economical. A Chris Morris 29-ball 55* came in vain for the hosts.

Frequent breakthroughs also hampered Pakistan’s chances of notching a huge score in the first innings, despite a few batsmen getting starts. Beuran Hendricks was particularly potent for the Proteas, recording career-best figures of 4/14 in a masterful display of T20I seam bowling.

Babar Azam began rapidly for the tourists, smashing Junior Dala for four boundaries in the second over of the day, but he fell for 23 from 11 as the impressive Morris (2/27) picked up his first scalp. Fellow opener Fakhar Zaman departed for 17, while Mohammad Rizwan, promoted to three, added 26 runs before becoming Lutho Sipamla’s (1/25) first victim in international cricket

Shoaib Malik then looked typically assured for his 18, but a comical run out prevented him from amassing a decent score, and late cameos from Asif Ali (20) and Imad Wasim (19) were quelled before any real danger had mounted. Andile Phehlukwayo (1/41) was punted for three sixes in the final over by Shadab Khan (22*) to drag Pakistan to 168/9, as proceedings looked rather poised at the half-way stage.

The second innings saw Shaheen Afridi (1/23) and Imad (1/19) immediately make inroads into the South African top order, the former dismissing Reeza Hendricks (5) with a sharp caught and bowled, and the latter picking up the wicket of Janneman Malan (2) leaving the Proteas flailing at 14/2.

Mohammad Amir then struck with his first ball to send back Heinrich Klaasen for just two. Things were looking increasingly bleak for David Miller’s men. At 59/3 after ten overs, a significant acceleration was required for the home side to get near their target of 169.

Miller (13) was the next to fall, mistiming a sweep straight back to Shadab, before Pakistan dealt their opponents a massive blow in dismissing Rassie van der Dussen for 41, the 29-year old edging a drive off Faheem to Malik at mid-off after looking very confident throughout his knock.

Shadab (2/34) then had Phehlukwayo pinned lbw for 10, before Morris let loose. He smashed Faheem for 21 in an over, reigniting hopes of a South African resurgence, but wickets continued to fall around him and the asking rate became too steep. Hendricks (3) and Dala (5) both fell to Amir, who finished with figures of 3/27, while Sipamla was bowled for a golden duck in the penultimate over by Faheem (2/38) as things drew to a tepid close for the hosts.

With 40 needed from the final over, two sixes from Morris took him to an exciting 55* from just 29, but the game was already out of sight. A good way to conclude the tour for Pakistan, and an anti-climactic way for South Africa to round off what was a successful series for them.
