Pakistan end Day 3 on a second innings score of 129/6, with a lead of 200

Hasan Ali has the chance to be man of the match if Pak wins

Our nemesis left arm spin strikes again it was a good thing we didn’t chase 200 in the last match it would’ve been a tight call.

Game in the balance. Pakistan need 50 more runs here.

12 wickets fell today for 180-90 odd runs if I am not wrong.

200 lead.

Disappointed at Faheems dismissal but could have been much worse.

40/50 more runs and we are in the driving seat.

This is why we’re currently a low ranked team on top decent lead but unable to press home the advantage make SA chase well over 300 instead we’re hoping they underperform with the bat again.

Poor by Faheem, he should have been playing for stumps at that stage. His wicket was crucial for South Africa and Pakistan

It's so annoying to keep hearing this is why we are low ranked team again and again. Fact is we are so live with it and applaud the position we are in the match, SA did not come here to get beaten easily. Besides they are higher rank team so you expect the fight from them too.

Another 7 overs lost today, 31 overs down after 3 days. We should still get a result though.

What a test match and what a series it has been so far. These two teams are pretty much evenly matched in every field and it's clearly showing on the field.

Brilliant advertisement to Test cricket. Gut says South Africa may just chase this down in the last innings but it'll go right down to the wire.

They have been awful in Asia recently and are only ranked 1 place higher.

During this series, I have seen some of the worst Test batting ever.

Clueless stroke-play, no idea how to play spin, poor shot selection.

2 very poor batting sides.

Not sure why so many here feel Pakistan just need 40-50 more and they're in the driving seat.

The first session would be the deciding factor and if Pakistan bat through and get 80 it will be great or anything more will be a bonus.

There's plenty of time left in the game and SA shouldn't be expected to be rolled over everytime as it shouldn't be underestimated.

Just been told by my nephew, Linde was here at our house having roast shoast on Eid in 2015 with my late dad.

Apparently, he was playing for Darwen CC (UK), a few miles off where we live, and was invited over by my nephew along with another S African pro based at E Lancs (down the road to us).

Well, those parathays and botian are costing us today...haha.

Agree, it is what it is, rather than constant criticism the fans need to back the team and are leading in a competitive series. Let's face it quality players don't grow on trees and the pakistan fans need to stay patient .

Lol! Interesting encounter.

Thoroughly enjoyable day mainly due to suicidal wickets but that is what happens often under pressure.

Not playing another left hander in the middle order to counter their left armers was a collosally dumb move.
Just to protect two rubbish openers.
Playing with 9 men Pakistan.

Slightly more positive approach from the two tailenders opening the innings and the game would have been sealed.

250 on a pitch that has uneven bounce and turning a mile is a damn good score

Saud Shakeel should have debuted instead of Imran Butt, to be honest.

I doubt they will reach a lead of 250. Expect them to score a maximum of 30-40 runs. I reckon saffers can chase 250 down tho, 280 should have been the minimum lead.

Given how awful SA have batted in this series, Pakistan can declare overnight, wrap up the game by lunch and have some more time to rest.

Spinners George Linde and Keshav Maharaj shared five wickets to keep the Proteas alive after the third day of the second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

South Africa’s twin slow-armers helped the tourists reduce their hosts to 129 for six by stumps, a lead of exactly 200 on a day when 12 wickets went down.

Six of those belonged to the visitors as their middle and lower order were again exposed when they were dismissed for a below-par 201, an innings difference of 71.

Only Temba Bavuma walked away with his head held up high after he was left stranded unbeaten on 44.

Mark Boucher’s side then needed to dig deep in order to have a chance of victory, with Linde’s three for 12 in nine overs, five of which were maidens, doing precisely that. Maharaj chipped in with two for 74 meaning the game was still hanging by the balance heading in day four on Sunday.

The South Africans started the morning on 106 for four, but lost their captain within the first 15 deliveries after he attempted to play a loose drive off Shaheen Shah Afridi (1/37) ricocheted onto the stumps.

Wiaan Mulder showed some fight with a battling 33 in a 50-run sixth-wicket partnership alongside Bavuma that took the total to 164 for five.

But he was needlessly run-out looking for a second run gifting the Pakistanis a desperate breakthrough.

Linde did at least help Bavuma get the total beyond 200 with a run-a-ball 21, but Hasan Ali’s precision in between was helping his side chip away – the fast bowler mopping up the tail with figures of five for 54 that left the away side all out in 65.4 overs.

A disciplined start with the ball by the Proteas put the home side under pressure and Imran Butt felt the heat when he was trapped leg before wicket by Kagiso Rabada without scoring.

More tight bowling kept the intensity on and Abid Ali (13) was next to go with the score on 28.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam (8) then departed to Maharaj for the third time in three innings, with Linde’s double strike of Azhar Ali (33) and Fawad Alam (12) threatening a major turnaround to the Test match after the home side slumped to 76 for five.

However, Mohammad Rizwan (28 not out) and Faheem Ashraf (29) opted to be more aggressive during a 52-run sixth-wicket stand that frustrated the away side, until Linde ended it on the stroke of stumps.

To start with, chasing 220 odd by Proteas will not be easy, they did not even score 220 in first innings. Yasir shah will come into picture big time.
I do not think last 4 wickets will add more than 30 runs.
On day 1 when Pak were 22/3
If they were given this scenario of Proteas chasing 220 on declining wicket, Pak would have taken it.

A good team would have buried their opposition in the ground.

We are far from a good team.

Posters can claim whatever they want, there was nothing in the pitch, no sharp turn, no uneven bounce, nothing to enforce such a poor batting performance. Our batting is 3rd class, I'd back Zimbabwe's batting lineup to post 400 above ours.

The difference between a good team and an average team is that an average team will not capitalize on the opportunities which are presented. A good team on the other hand, will take catches, bat sensibly, and know their game plan well. Seems like they have a buy-1-get-1 free deal in the pavilion the way our batsmen keep returning.

The fact that our tailenders have scored more runs combined than our openers is something concerning, it is poor to say the least.

Yasir Shah was nowhere to be seen, Shaheen has regressed significantly, though the rest did alright.

The new ball should go to Hasan, Shaheen needs to bowl his heart out and look threatening. The only way you bowl well on these pitches is if you line the ball in on the stumps, because it would either skid or seam on one or two occasions, but if you keep searching for swing, you are shooting yourself in the foot. You have to bend your back and bang the ball into the pitch if you want a response, look at Rabada 1st innings and 2nd innings, and you'll see the difference.

Pakistan are in a good position to win this game.

50-60 more runs and SA should lose.

Pakistan should declare right now, if we want to see any contest between the two teams.

200 leads is already enormous to pin down this weak, uninterested and sparkles SA batting line.

2 days still left . Pakistan needs to somehow add another 75 runs otherwise SA are taking this I'm afraid.
60 /40 in favour of Pakistan atm.

Saj i assure you.Saffers wont be poor in the second innings..There is no spin at the moment in my opinion..i am actually expecting our tail to score some.runs tomorrow thats why the faheem shot was pretty disappointing

Absolutely spot on mate...but posters here seem to see lot of spin ......

Saffers aren't winning this, unless Pakistan bowls poorly.

There is barely any spin on this pitch.

Since not enough overs are bowled in a day, and the wet outfield, the plates are pretty solid and show no sign of breaking. The pitch is shining, it'll start spinning decently after lunch on Day 4, you can take my word on that. Before then, the pitch won't offer much to spinners. Should have played Nawaz or Agha Salman, they would have been really useful.

IMO the best thing to do is let Hasan have two spells, one with the new ball and one with the old ball, because he can generate reverse. I'd rather have Faheem open the bowling than Shaheen, because Faheem is spot on accurate on that off-stump line, so he could exploit some seam movement whereas Shaheen bowls most deliveries that can be left or flicked to the leg-side, he hasn't found a good length to bowl to right handers. I'd also want Hasan to bowl round the wicket to Elgar, has a good chance of taking him out early.

Rizwan they key tomorrow, we need to be positive with the bat, the inns has stalled twice when we have played negative cricket. The tail will get plenty of short stuff so rizwan needs to protect them.

He has rallied with the tail before, in England.

I hope he does it again.

Hasan and Yasir can bat. They should be positive and not get tied down.Ruzwan is the key.If he can rotate the strike and score another 50 runs then SA will be under pressure.SA may chase 250 but there is a chance they may collapse.Cricket is a funny game.
