Pakistan faces water crisis as India builds dams on shared rivers

You do realise if Pakistan bombs the dam, the water avalanche will flood places like Pakistani Punjab instantly, it will be even more catastrophic ..

Listen to me lad, the solution is simple: get rid of the camel cowboy mindset, let go of islamic extemism, terrorism, etc, work on the economy, bring your country back from the ashes, you can achieve it, if all of Pakistan focus on development for the next 50 years...

If you choose to bury your heads in the hole, then you are finished
Kashmir and Ghazwa E Hind is more important to them. Economic development pales in comparison.

Their priorities have always been wrong which is why they are in the current situation they are in. So far I have not seen any evidence they will see the light, which is why I always said Pakistan is a lost cause, no coming back...

That is what happens when your priorities lie in things happening outside your own country while turning a blind eye to the rot happening in your own country. Kashmir, Indian Muslims, Palestine, Israel, Iran ..... the list goes on..

"So-Called Court Of Arbitration On Indus Waters Treaty Illegal, Void": India

India has, in a strongly-worded statement, rejected a "supplemental award" by an "illegal" Court of Arbitration set up supposedly over the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty. Calling the self-appointed panel unlawful and in "brazen violation" of the treaty itself, India's foreign ministry unequivocally trashed its claims and "concerns".

In a five-point statement, India's Ministry of External Affairs said, "Today, the illegal Court of Arbitration, purportedly constituted under the Indus Waters Treaty 1960, albeit in brazen violation of it, has issued what it characterizes as a 'supplemental award' on its competence concerning the Kishenganga and Ratle hydroelectric projects in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir."

Making it clear that New Delhi never considered this self-appointed, so-called 'arbiter' to have any locus standi in any of India's matters, the foreign ministry stated that "India has never recognised the existence in law of this so-called Court of Arbitration, and India's position has all along been that the constitution of this so-called arbitral body is in itself a serious breach of the Indus Waters Treaty."

"Consequently, any proceedings before this forum and any award or decision taken by it are also for that reason illegal and per se void," it added.

Blaming Pakistan sqarely for the Indus Waters Treaty being put in "abeyance" after terrorist attacks in India, the foreign ministry reiterated that "Following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, India has in exercise of its rights as a sovereign nation under international law, placed the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism. Until such time that the Treaty is in abeyance, India is no longer bound to perform any of its obligations under the Treaty."

Calling out the "so-called Court of Arbitration" for acting at the behest of Pakistan and highlighting that the self-appointed panel has "no existence in the eyes of the law", India said, "No Court of Arbitration, much less this illegally constituted arbitral body which has no existence in the eye of law, has the jurisdiction to examine the legality of India's actions in exercise of its rights as a sovereign," adding that "India, therefore, categorically rejects this so-called supplemental award as it has rejected all prior pronouncements of this body."

Labeling Pakistan as the global epicenter for terrorism, India underscored that "This latest charade at Pakistan's behest is yet another desperate attempt by it to escape accountability for its role as the global epicenter of terrorism. Pakistan's resort to this fabricated arbitration mechanism is consistent with its decades-long pattern of deception and manipulation of international forums."

India has made it amply clear that the Indus Waters Treaty shall continue to remain in abeyance till Pakistan does not eradicate every shred of terror infrastructure and financing, as well as eliminate every single terrorist on its soil. New Delhi has also sent a clear message to Pakistan and the global community that any terror activity or terrorist attack in India with links found directly or indirectly to Pakistan will be considered an escalation which merits a military response by India "anywhere in Pakistan".

The Indus Waters Treaty being kept in abeyance was one of the first diplomatically-punitive measures taken by India against Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack was traced to have Pakistani-links. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that "blood and water cannot flow together." India has also repeatedly told Pakistan that "terror and talks cannot happen at the same time" either, leaving Islamabad and Rawalpindi (Pak Army headquarters) with no option but to put an end to its policy of "cross-border terror" in order to get its share of water as per the agreement.

Under the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, India had, as a gesture of goodwill, graciously agreed to share the waters from the Indus river and its five tributaries - Baes, Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum - on a mutually agreeable basis. According to the pact, the waters of the three 'western rivers' - Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab are to be released for Pakistan as per agreeable terms, while the entire volume of water from the three 'eastern rivers' - Baes, Sutlej, and Ravi - are for India. There are detailed terms and conditions which allows for building of dams, sharing of data annually, and multiple other factors.

Addressing a seminar titled “Pakistan: A Bulwark Against Terrorism” in Islamabad, he said:

“Let us end the weaponisation of water and build instead a peace as mighty as the Himalayas.”

“Let us return to our shared traditions grounded not in hatred but in the ancient soil of the Indus Valley Civilization.”

India must not be allowed to use water as weapon, PM tells ECO

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday warned that India’s weaponisation of water represents a “new and alarming trend” in its hostility towards Pakistan, calling it an act of aggression that must not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Addressing the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Azerbaijan, the premier condemned India’s recent actions following its military escalation earlier this year.

He thanked ECO member states for standing in solidarity with Pakistan amid New Delhi’s aggressive steps, including the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, diplomatic downgrades, and border closures.

Tensions surged after India accused Pakistan of orchestrating the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead—an allegation Islamabad categorically rejected as baseless.

The crisis peaked in early May, when missile strikes targeted cities across Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in dozens of civilian casualties. Pakistan responded with Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, striking Indian military installations. A US-brokered ceasefire was announced on May 10.

Highlighting the regional impact of India’s actions, the prime minister criticised New Delhi’s defiance of the World Bank-mediated Indus Waters Treaty and its disregard for a ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration, calling both acts unacceptable.

“The waters of the Indus are the lifeline for Pakistan’s 240 million people,” he said. “Under no circumstances can India be permitted to pursue this dangerous path, which would amount to an act of aggression against the people of Pakistan.”

Turning to economic cooperation, PM Shehbaz emphasised the need to enhance trade and investment to boost regional connectivity. He noted that the ECO Trade Agreement, agreed during the 13th ECO Summit in Islamabad in 2017, remains unimplemented despite the passage of considerable time.

He also addressed the devastating impact of climate change, citing the 2022 floods that affected over 33 million people, destroyed infrastructure, and caused economic losses exceeding $30 billion.

The premier urged regional collaboration to address climate risks, proposing low-emission transport corridors, a regional carbon market platform, and disaster resilience systems.

He also called for a dedicated framework to mobilise climate finance, develop clean energy corridors, and promote eco-tourism for sustainable and inclusive growth.

Condemning recent Israeli strikes on Iran and the continuing violence in Gaza, PM Shehbaz described both as threats to regional peace.

Reiterating Pakistan’s firm stance against violence and oppression worldwide, he said, “We stand united against those committing barbaric acts against innocent people — whether in Gaza, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), or Iran,” he said.

Oh munna..you have so much to learn.
Building a modern jet is much harder than a civil engineering project technology wise.. India has already built dams ...

Anyhow India doesn't need the water...it is Pakistan who needs the water...even the mere utterance of what India would do has your Bilwala ka puttar frothitn in mouth and accusing India of water war. LMAO...all India needs to do is use their current 20 percent allocation and Pak is screwed. Then it needs to use 1 percent of paks allocated water for Pak awam to blast their military rules. What will Pak do ...push of a button to destroy a dam and flood themselves... A internationally known terrorists state openly attacking civilian dam and causing eco terrorism...in a more powerful country with 0 geographic breadth scale and water scarcity ...love this...so yeah maybe use the button on kishenhanj and then talk... As we all saw at Sindoor...barking dogs seldom bite.
Why are you so triggered ? We all saw what happened during op Sindoor. Five were shot in the air and rest ran

a timely or should I say untimely, unannounced release of water will make for a lot of fun
U know the woke thing.even paks 9% storage capacity is also due to us. In 60s we gave them money to construct them .

How do you think this happened in broad daylight if all other Indian jets ran away ? Perhaps the evil yahoodi's stepped in to help India ?

I can guarantee you 0 FIGHTER JETS were shot down but there were losses...samajhdaro ke liye isharai kaafi hai but PAF And PAF supporters ke liye ...you need experts that are not Indian

Jane defence weekly does a more thorough analysis and Dassault chief is already on record but you can consider him biased. Along with that French intelligence has identified the Chinese fake media propaganda on their fake maal

The last is a pro pakistani media.
Ab IAF caught in a tight spot..can't say Rafales are down but can't admit the truth else how will Aurangazeb sahab use Microsoft PPT 95 to impress the Pak chicks.

Reporter: "....whether Pakistan downed an Indian jet or infact more than that ?

Indian CDS: "What is important is not the jet being down, but why they were downed..."

Do you really think that I will believe guarantees from a brainwashed hindutvadi?

I was talking about May 7th when Indian jets were downed. You got a reply for attack on our airbases through 'OP Bunyan ul Marsoos'. Ofcourse it is a coincidence that Modi ji wanted peace the moment Pakistan got serious with 'yudh'. :afridi

Indians can take all the water in the world but this won’t stop the world laughing at them because they will still make minimal use of the water available to them, as taking baths is very much an alien concept for them.

They also have these weird practices of polluting water with burnt bodies and then bathing in the filth. Watched some videos of rajus 'bathing' in Ganga and I couldn't believe there were naked men wandering around among families.

Thank God for Jinnah.

I use to keep Indian military men at a higher standard but even they have been inflicted by hindutva virus. Saw some tweets from former indian army chief and I thought someone has hacked his account.:yk3

Glad you consider Munir in low esteem because he seems to be a religious bigot to the core

It is a very scummy thing to do to cut another country's water supply.

Only India and Israel have stooped to this level in recent times.

Good news is there is China in the region to keep India in check. Many of India's water sources originate from China. :inti

Have not @Hitman already posted about the stats and percentage in detail. Its 35 percentage of shortage in above scenario which can be offset by Himalayas glacier melts.unlike pak case where its 100 percent suffocation.Irrespective of IWT, China already stated last year that they are going to build the dam.
India is not complaining..Pak should also stop whining..do soemthing else keep quiet.
