Pakistan fast bowlers recent decline: Is Azhar Mahmood to blame?

It's not a surprise Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan struggle to land the ball in the same spot two balls in a row.

How many full seasons of domestic cricket have they played ? Same question for Mohd Hasnain ?

This fast-tracking nonsense must stop. This isn't the 70s when you could debut your net bowler who looked good in a session. The gap is too big between domestic and international cricket.

We also need a spin bowling coach. It's stomach churning watching Mushtaq Ahmed on the West Indies team bench.

Domestic experience would certainly help, however I believe Shaheen might be burnt out? he's played pretty much non-stop since previous PSL, first time experiencing such intensity. He was doing fine in South Africa.

And do you know why fastracking is happening? Because we, PCB, haven't backed or groomed enough up-and-coming players to replace the aging, and frankly out-of-date seniors in the side down the years.

The likes of Hafeez and Malik, to name just two, should never have been persisted with after the CT. That was the optimum time to blood in some new players that come into a winning side and a positive atmosphere.

Instead we're yet to replace Ajmal, Afridi, Gul and have wasted 2 years on Faheem Ashraf and put all our eggs in his basket made out of paper mache.

There's no planning and no-one knows what jobs they have in the side. Those players knew when they'd come on, and what job was required of them.

I'd argue fast-tracking is because we are still stuck in the past and wrongly think players will just rot in domestic cricket. No matter how flawed our QEA Trophy is, some domestic experience is better than nothing.

Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Yasir Shah and Mohammed Abbas transitioned fairly seamlessly into international cricket because they were proven domestic performers.

For every Wasim Akram there is a Hasan Raza who debuted far too young and hurt his career in the long run. People bang on about how IK plucked Inzamam and Waqar out of nowhere, but Inzamam was one of the most CONSISTENT domestic performers of the late 1980s while Waqar had played some domestic cricket.

Now one PSL or half decent U19 WC campaign is enough for fans and media to start calling for someone's debut. It's like asking an undergraduate dentist to do root canals before doing any actual training.

That's the point. They're being fast tracked because we don't have readymade players available because we relied on backing the most senior players and when they've gone is only when we make our move.

Pakistan Test bowling is the worst after Zimbabwe in terms of average since appointment of Waqar as bowling coach.

Don't see any threads from OP though on: Pakistan fast bowlers recent decline: Is Azhar Mahmood to blame?

Nah..... Fielders nd lack of fielding coach or the psudo fielding coach is to blame

*Is Waqar Younis to blame?

Anyway bring on the next bowling coach so we can curse them too and demand their ouster.

Maybe, just maybe, our bowling reputation is based on past glories.

Bowlers did better under Azhar Mahmood in comparison to Waqar Younis

You can give this team world class coaches, result will still the same.

Until grassroot levels improve, we will keep seeing these humiliations and no fight attitude for the next few years atleast.

Best just to self admit we aren’t good enough to compete.

SAF series may hide some discrepancies, but overall we are just a crap team.

Look, Pakistan’s bowling has sucked air balloons since 2010.

We have never truly recovered from losing Amir (at a young age) and Asif (an experienced warhorse).

Think of all the pacers that have debuted since 2010 and note their minimal impacts.
