It's all about intent, isn't it? In Mount Maunganui, they batted for hours for nothing. Didn't punish the loose balls. Ended up scoring at 1 RPO for a decent part of the first innings.

Today, they came out and looked to score. Azhar Ali's judgement of when to score and when to leave was outstanding. Rizwan really changed the momentum. Faheem and Gohar were solid as well. You could argue that Hagley Oval is a tougher wicket than the first Test.

More of Christchurch and less of Mount Maunganui, please Pakistan. Love it when you're like this.

Excellent intent and good rate of scoring.

In a sense that intent may have saved them and given them some breathing space.

This is how they should always play in test cricket. Attacking the bowlers and scoring runs quickly puts the bowlers under pressure and disrupts their line and length which gives batsmen further scoring opportunities

no point.

Series cannot be won.

Too late for such intent now.

It was great to see some positive batting after the toothless and cowardly effort the top order put up in the first innings of the last test match.

Completely agree regarding Azhar's judgment. I reckon this innings was better than many of his centuries.

Wicket is very bouncy, but runs are alot easy to made from the first test. NZ will make 400 plus here.

It's about balance isn't it, you don't want to be playing loose shots outside offstump when the ball is moving but you don't want to retreat into a shell like the 1st Test.

Pitch seems to have more pace than the previous one so ball should come onto the bat nicely.

The first session was very much forced, but Rizwan really took the attack to the Kiwis in the second session. This is brilliant.

Younis Khan happened.

He's a very proactive and passionate coach who wants to be successful and work hard.

Tell me when was the last time an Asian side won a match in NZ, let alone a series. We have the chance of drawing the series and you see no point? Actually watch the game instead of looking at the scoreboard and making such comments.

What a terrible post. Series cannot be won, but it can be drawn, and if this match is won, it would be a landmark achievement. Hell, our intent in 2nd innings of the first test was much much better and we almost came close to winning.

Defeatist mentality will not take you far, need to win in whatever opportunity is given to us.

In the first test, Pakistan followed the classic Misbah UAE strategy of playing attrition based cricket. This blew back heavily as against quality sides on a live pitch you cannot employ this strategy. Thankfully, they decided to change this in second match, and results are showing.

Without a doubt, the best batting lineup of this generation.

Been watching crixket for 15 years.

And i am seriously tired of us losing the first game, than trying to fight it out in the rest of the series.

Draw helps no one. I have seen drawn series. I have seen the moral victories. But what i habe not seen is series victories for a while now.

If it was 3 match series, than this game would haf mattered. But a 2 match series where we lost the first game, it means nothing now.

Tired of celebrating draws

We also came close at winning back in australia where shafiq performed. We probably came close against england aswell many times.

Did we win any of those series? Nope.

Have followed pakistan 15 years now, and it gets tiring seeing the usual in series.

3-2 one day losses. Drawn or lost test series

well when pakistan chased down 302 in 57 overs i thought that pakistan cricket is about to change but sadly we reverted to old ways.

In the last match NZ also struggled to score quickly , expect NZ to score at a healthy rate here tomorrow.

last year india scored 242 in their first innings at 3.84 runs per over , and got a minor lead of 7 runs in the first innings. Got rolled out for 124 in the second innings though.

Pakistan has a much better lower order/tail than India. One change I would ruthlessly make for the second innings if I were captain is put Harris Sohail at 8 and move all the rest one up. Nothing wrong with treating a softie like him in a harsh way. Nothing else to gain from him besides hopefully 10-15 runs from a cameo.

What is this? I can’t believe what I am reading.

I am an Indian, I watched the day 1, I was very happy to see the intent to score runs. Rizwan and Ali played very well, supported by Rana and Gohar. Would you be happy if they had surrender themselves without a fight?
