Wales leading 2-0 against England @ half time, wow! Pak still has hope...
What's going wrong with England? Did they send a second string team?

England win 3-2 against Wales, so England and India are through to last 4 from this group.
Malaysia, Pakistan and Wales eliminated.
Yep sad for Pakistan but good improvement under new coach
You have to understand that once Hockey shifted from grass to astro turf, India and Pakistan were toast.
Dribble hockey that India and Pakistan played was killed off so that the fast hockey that westerns played better on basis of better stamina and strength gains prominence. Thats why India or Pakistan dropped off the hockey map.
It took India decades of investment in getting astro turf installed at basic level academies so that players get to learn to play on astro turf from the beginning. Then there has to be massive investments into fitness programmes etc. Its a tough tough ask for India and Pakistan
Subcontinental hockey teams have been screwed by the west. If i remember it right after introduction of astro turf in 1976 montreal olympics, India and Pakistan have only managed 1 gold each.
The last 4 games before CWG were been lost by a combined margin of 15+ goals.

Couple of questions
- what makes you think India forced FIH to introduce 15 minute quarters? It was adopted from the Indian league but that was it right?
- doesn't Australia play the Asian style? How do you think they managed to maintain competitiveness?
Greenstorm is right that a lot of these tournaments which our Indian and Pakistani friends are united in celebrating are used for testing by the Europeans.

Does India have same kind of say in FIH as it has in ICC ? If so, can it change rules to suit subcontinental style of hockey ?

Also asian hockey went down because of change in offside rule not because of introduction of astroturf.
India are doing well in hockey, why will they complain?

Present FIH president is Indian. India is just starting to build its influence in FIH.
India and Pakistan used to play dribble hockey. Shifting to Astro turf killed that and made it into a stamina and strength game. This resulted in defensive hockey. So to prevent that they abolished the offside rule in mid 90s.
Obviously it is not going to happen but the best way forward for hockey is to bring back the offside rule and play with 9 players a side. This will result in more attacking hockey within the confined offside rule which will make it very interesting.
I think offside rules makes the game defensive.
Actually we are not. We have improved yes but we are nowhere as good as Aus/Germany/SoKo.
Another draw.
Pakistan 1-1 Malaysia.
Oltmans has improved our game in just one month. Players are actually listening to him. More long passes, early ball release, quick change of flanks, composure in defense are the things which we did not used to do before. Still players are lacking fitness, finishing is weak in final 25 and we have to develop a reliable drag flicker. More time this coach will spend with the team, the better we will get.

We seem to be drawing MOST of the games - but guess an improvement.
