Pakistan in the third ODI against NZ - Slowest start to an innings in modern-day cricket?

Probably is but I'm not surprised considering we have 2 absolutely shameful ODI batsmen in our top 4. This is our level

Just what some Pakistani fans needed. Fans and some players started to fly too high after the Champions Trophy. NZ is showing us where we stand, bringing everyone down to earth.

I might be going against popular will by saying this, but I seriously hope we get whitewashed 5-0 in this series. Our incompetent and corrupt management only seems to notice the problems and make changes when we suffer humiliating losses, like we did to India by 124 runs in the CT opener. Only then was Fakhar and Junaid brought in. We all thought winning the Champions Trophy would be the start of a revolution and implementation of much needed changes in PAK cricket, but looks like we were all proved wrong again. Only another humiliation will do the job for us and get rid of the remaining cancers that exist in our team. Other than that, Well played New Zealand.

Won’t be surprised if the likes of Kamran and Butt make a comeback, because we’re obviously losing due to a lack of experience...

Those 15-16 overs were some of the worst I've ever seen.

No intent or plan whatsoever.

dunno what is worst, losing wickets or not scoring for 10 overs with all 10 wickets in hand

People talk about playing our senior players for their experience without truly reflecting how inadequate their career records are. Guptill, Williamson, and Taylor had to face very tough bowling, but their above 40 average tells you why they can guts it out and why out medicorce seniors with the mid 30’s average fail in the heat of battle

This.

When Misbah and Younus came to the crease at least there was a feeling of respect from the opposition when their records were shown on screen. These guys are properly embarrassing ; 200- 300 ODIs with collectively less hundreds than Kohli and both are supposedly revered by the youngsters. As embarrassing as this series has been I firmly believe getting rid Azhar, Hafeez and Malik will be substantial in changing this team's fortunes. Of course, this will never happen with Inzamam in charge.

Sharam aani chahiye. Atleast think about the people who have come to watch you at the ground, or the hundreds that are awake infront of the TV set. Playing for your place in the team is just great but you are putting off a lot of people from watching you. Tarnishing the image of Pakistan cricket.

The problem will be even worse. Inzamam may bring back Kami and Salman in place of Fakhar and Babar, and Gul and wahab for Rummon and Amir

English openers put up a 50 run stand against Starc and Cummins before the 5th over.

Pakistani management might disapprove because the stand only lasted for 28 deliveries, we need to preserve wickets at the top. It is called sensible approach.

Can Umar Akmal do any worse than Azhar Ali?
Umar would be a great opener for you.

Give him the license to go and play his shots. If he gets out, he gets out. If he clicks, he scores 30-50 runs at a quick clip and gives you momentum.

Umar opening would be a win-win situation for Pakistan. No bowling attack in any conditions is going to restrict him to 30 (50) type knocks; he doesn't have the defense or the temperament to play an innings like that. They will either nip him early or he will score a cameo at a very good strike rate.

If Umar can last 10 overs, he will do more good than Azhar playing 40.

What a terrific start !!!

Is this the slowest start in modern day cricket ?

To answer your question:

Pakistan have smashed India's record of slowest start.

India were 3 for 11 against Sri Lank at December 10th, 2017 in first 10 overs which was a record.

But we the green shirts were 3 for 9 runs against NZ in 3rd ODI.

So yep, at least we have made some record :))
