Haider Ali named in 29-player squad for England tour

• The players have been selected with one eye on the future as I want them to learn from Mushtaq Ahmed and Younis Khan which will help them beyond this tour, says Misbah-ul-Haq

Lahore, 12 June 2020:

Haider Ali, the Pakistan U19 batsman and one of the players to watch-out for, has been named in a 29-player squad for three Tests and three T20Is against England to be played in August-September. An extended squad, including white-ball specialists, is being sent to England as the players, in accordance with series SOPs in the wake of Covid-19, will remain in England from start to finish.

Haider had an outstanding 2019-20 season, following which he earned an emerging contract for the 2020-21 season.

He was Pakistan U19’s second most successful batsman with 317 runs against South Africa U19 in June, fifth leading run-getter with 218 runs in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup in Bangladesh, aggregated 645 runs – including a century in the final – at just under 50 in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, finished as Pakistan’s third-best batsman with 107 runs in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 before contributing 239 runs in nine matches at a strike-rate of over 158 for Peshawar Zalmi in the unfinished HBL Pakistan Super League 2020.

Besides Haider, Sindh’s Kashif Bhatti is the other uncapped player in the side. Kashif was in the Test squad against Australia and Sri Lanka but did not play and was also named in the probables for the Rawalpindi Test against Bangladesh.

Returning to the national colours is fast bowler Sohail Khan, whose ninth and last Test for Pakistan was the 2016 Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2019-20, he took 22 wickets in nine matches, while he grabbed seven wickets in eight HBL PSL 2020 matches for Quetta Gladiators.

Apart from Haider, Kashif, Sohail and the other centrally contracted players, excluding Haris Sohail, the selectors have named Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Imran Khan, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hafeez and Wahab Riaz.

The selectors have also named four reserves in Bilal Asif, Imran Butt, Musa Khan and Mohammad Nawaz as a cover in case any of the players fail pre-tour Covid-19 testing, which will be carried out on 20 and 25 June.

Fast bowlers Hasan Ali and Mohammad Amir, and middle-order batsman Haris were not available for selection. Hasan is suffering from a back injury, Amir withdrew so that he can be at the birth of his second child in August while Haris took the option of pulling out of the tour due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The breakdown of the 29-player squad is:

Openers (4) – Abid Ali (Sindh, Lahore Qalandars), Fakhar Zaman (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Lahore Qalandars), Imam-ul-Haq (Balochistan, Peshawar Zalmi) and Shan Masood (Southern Punjab, Multan Sultans)

Middle-order batsmen (9) – Azhar Ali (captain) (Central Punjab), Babar Azam (Test vice-captain and T20I captain) (Central Punjab, Karachi Kings), Asad Shafiq (Sindh, Multan Sultans), Fawad Alam (Sindh), Haider Ali (Northern, Peshawar Zalmi), Iftikhar Ahmad (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Karachi Kings), Khushdil Shah (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Multan Sultans), Mohammad Hafeez (Southern Punjab, Lahore Qalandars), and Shoaib Malik (Southern Punjab, Peshawar Zalmi)

Wicketkeepers (2) - Mohammad Rizwan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Karachi Kings) and Sarfaraz Ahmed (Sindh, Quetta Gladiators)

Fast bowlers (10) – Faheem Ashraf (Central Punjab, Islamabad United), Haris Rauf (Northern, Lahore Qalandars), Imran Khan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mohammad Abbas (Southern Punjab), Mohammad Hasnain (Sindh, Quetta Gladiators), Naseem Shah (Central Punjab, Quetta Gladiators), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Northern, Lahore Qalandars), Sohail Khan (Sindh, Quetta Gladiators), Usman Shinwari (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Lahore Qalandars) and Wahab Riaz (Southern Punjab, Peshawar Zalmi)

Spinners (4) – Imad Wasim (Northern, Karachi Kings), Kashif Bhatti (Sindh), Shadab Khan (Northern, Islamabad United) and Yasir Shah (Balochistan, Peshawar Zalmi).

Commenting on the squad, chief selector and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq said: “The selectors have picked a squad which gives us the best chance of success in England. It was a challenging process as the players have not played for an extended period of time, but nevertheless, with the month that we will have in England and the intense training we will undergo, we are confident we will get the players up to the mark to be ready for the three Tests.

“But the main focus of the selectors has been red-ball cricket, which we will play for nearly two months with the T20Is to be played at the backend of the ICC World Test Championship fixtures.

“The series against England will be challenging as our players have not played any competitive cricket since March, while the home team will come following a series against the West Indies. This means we will have to hit the ground running as soon as we land in England and make the best use of the training sessions and match practice before we enter the first Test.

“The players have also been selected with one eye on the future. I want these players to acquire as much cricket knowledge as possible from the additional backroom staff of Mushtaq Ahmed and Younis Khan that can help them post the England tour.

“Sohail Khan has been recalled to further strengthen our fast bowling department. He had two five-fors when he last played in England in 2016. The selectors also felt he bowled much better in the 2019-20 domestic season than his figures reflected.”

Sohail khan, really?

Not much to get excited about other than haider

Zafar should have been in here

I would have also taken Zeeshan Asraf , he can’t do any worse than what we have in t20s

Kashif Bhatti is a useless selection for a tour of England but SOHAIL KHAN? The guy didn't have the fitness levels for Test cricket 4 years ago, what makes Misbah foolish enough to think he'll last 5 days now? This was the perfect opportunity to select literally anyone else, Ehsan Adil, Sameen Gul etc.

Ugly, ugly squad - they had 29 spots to pick and loaded half the squad with obsolete oldies.

Normally, I try to rate any squad out of 10 - lost interest for this one.

Sohail Khan, Imran Khan, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, even Wahab Riaz?!

Not much to look at here really. How Zafar still doesn't make it is beyond me. No Sharjeel either.

Everything else was expected.

This is a terrible squad, one of the worst in recent memory. Imran Khan, Sohail Khan, Malik, Kasif Bhatti? Imran and Sohail are just WOW!

They had such a great chance to pick some new performing players and they came up with this.

Zafar not making it in is amazing too, you would think they will eventually get this one thing right but no.

If anyone needs any more proof of just how clueless Misbah is in any position be it selector, coach or captain, this is another shinning example.

What is that huff and puff trundler doing here? Add to that Imran Khan. Pathetic.

Sohail khan?? Imran khan?? Usman shinwari?? is this a joke? This useless misbah at it again. where is ehsan Adil?? ehsan Adil should have been there.Where is waqar Younis now? who was saying they are keeping track of ehsan's performance.i m really disappointed.

it's gonna be fun watching that ugly technique of Mr.fawad Alam whatever his name is he will be disappoint many on this forum. He will dance a lot that's for sure. I can't wait him to see him fail.

Again ashraf is picked and again Yamin is ignored.
Yasir shah is almost done and will be thrashed. Bhatti might replace him.

To the fans who think pak will best eng just becuase of Naseem and Shaheen, you're in for a treat because eng will destroy Pakistan.

Possibly the worst squad that has been picked in recent times. Misbah has outdone himself.

Sohail Khan, Imran Khan and 33 year old Kahsif Bhatti:))):)))

Malik and Hafeez still there:facepalm:.

No sign of Sharjeel. No Zafar, Zeeshan Malik, Zeeshan Ashraf, Sameen.

I though at least we will see improvement in our cricket team under IK but it seems to be going backwards. Misbah will ruin another decade for us.

Good luck following these TTFs, specially in LOIs. God help Pakistan cricket.

He won't even get a game. He has been selected by Misbah 'the loser' to shut up Karachi media mafia.

I'm starving for international cricket. Can't wait for the series to start. Watching Babar would be really fun.

Sorry naysayers... Babar, Haider, Khushdil, Fawad, Haris Rauf, Naseem, Shaheen, Hasnain.. enough to get excited about this squad. Unfortunately you need to have a mix of few experienced folks as well. Can't have all youngsters playing.

On a funny note, the coaches can well form their own XI and defeat both Pakistan and English sides themselves :waqar :misbah :yk :mushy

I have supporter Misbah from the off, to help provide a balanced view of his reign.

But man, he doesn't half make it difficult does he?!?

I can maybe understand Kashif Bhatti based on 'continuity' (and I'm REALLY reaching here) but compared to Zafar Gohar, he doesn't merit a spot

Also, how can Imran Khan be considered after THAT tour of Australia?!

Faheem Ashraf has yet again been recalled. Where is Ehsan Adil, another bowler who could have been an asset in England?

And the icing on the cake is Sohail Khan. Really is.

He had fitness issues in 2016, and four years on is expected to be more effective in what will be a warm English summer. His form has fallen off a cliff in t20s too, going by his performances in the PSL.

I will continue to try to provide a balanced opinion on Misbah, because there are too many polarizing posts on PP on him.

But it's an understatement to say how disappointed I am with this squad.

My enthusiasm for the tour is absolutely not the same anymore.

This squad is really bad. Has a few players who are past it and won't be of use.

If I'm honest I can't really think of many players who are absolutely knocking the door down to replace some of the players.

Pakistan talent pool is in a sad state.

Babar and Shaheen are who we are relying on.

Population of so many million & haven’t got 1 decent off spinner, how are they planning on competing in next World Cup is Shah going to be balling his half treckers!

SIXTEEN players in their thirties.

No Sami Aslam even in a squad of 29.

Imran Khan!!!!!
SOHAIL KHAN!!!!!!!!!!!

Sohail Khan couldn't take second innings wickets even in 2016. And four years later he's suddenly fitter at THIRTY SIX YEARS OF AGE than he was at 32?

The likes of sohail imran khan are only their to help the main team practice
I dont see these guys getting a game
And faheem ashraf perhaps has been selected keeping in mind his last England test tour where he performed nicely

Imran Butt or Zeeshan Malik instead of Shoaib Malik.
Zafar Gohar instead of Kashif Bhatti.
Ehsan Adil instead of Imran Khan.
Sameen Gul instead of Sohail Khan.

The talent is there. But this Chief Selector will always prefer a 36 year old to a 26 year old.

A 28-29 man squad was an opportunity to groom the next generation. Instead Misbah has turned it into a holiday overseas with his friends.

Make no mistake: the inclusion of multiple geriatric players is largely for them to babysit their cricket tragic former captain.

Viz Hafeez, Malik, Imran, Yasir, Sarfraz, Bhatti, Iftikhar, Imran and Sohail.

This is just a Class Clowns of 2016 Reunion.

You've got Sajid Khan. But he is not going to reach the age of 27 until September, so he is a decade too young for Misbah to pick him.

Only looking forward to see Babar, Haider Ali, Fawad Alam, SSA and Naseem.

Sami Aslam is a good shout.

Not sure if Imran Butt and Zeeshan Malik are ready for a tour of England.

Ehsan Adil is not good enough.

Sameen Gul should be in the squad. Don't dispute that one.

I think Malik and Hafeez will only play in the T20s. Misbah won't move on from them after we lost to Sri Lanka .

Misbah is a rubbish selector and developer of player. I think we can agree on that Juanaids.

Has anyone stopped to ask Misbah which Imran Khan he has selected?

We are all assuming that it is the useless 125K trundler who has twice been humiliated in Australia.

But judging by Misbah's strict Youth Policy, are we sure that he hasn't selected the Prime Minister? He's only 68 years old, and he's clearly fitter and capable of bowling faster in the second innings than Sohail Khan, who is also in the squad.

Thats right.
I have heard from players' interviews that Imran khan Sr is quite a character. He keeps everyone amused and knows plenty of jokes.

His selection is not based on cricketing skills.

That is what Misbah can do. Such an idiot. Misbah and his love for oldeies.
29 players selected and cant select a decent squad. When will this torture end.

Imran butt should have been in squad as he has looked very solid in last couple of seasons. He looks tempramentally solid and his game reflects hard work. Also has a good technique.
Should be in line to replace likes of azhar ali who I suspect will fail badly on this tour

I'm guessing Sohail Khan, Hafeez, Malik, and Kashif must also have a great sense of humour in that case.

Really disappointed by a couple selections, was it really that hard to name someone younger than Sohail, Kashif, or Imran Khan?

Hafeez and Malik I can understand as special requests by Babar (which I also disagree with).

Where are Sharjeel, Kamran, Zeeshan for T20s keeping in mind the T20 world cup?

What are Bilal Asif and Musa Khan doing in the reserves? And Mohammad Nawaz?

Positives
- Haider Ali
- Khushdil Shah
- Imran Butt in the reserves
- Faheem Ashraf
- Not much else

To be honest, no young seamer has performed well in the tournament. Only the 30 year olds have.
For the spinners, a case can be made. Zafar gohar and Mohammad asghar shoukd be in place of Kashif Bhatti. Yasir shah is on his last legs as he is being thrashed around.

So you think Sohail was the best seamer in the tournament?

This is such a disappointing squad. Misbah has no clue about selection or how to build a squad.

Is it really so difficult to pick players in their 20's?

Ehsan Adil and Sameen Gul were outstanding given the conditions. Both the right age as well.

Can't expect any better from Misbah!!!
But blame should go to con artist English import Wasim Khan. This guy is the worst appointment by Imran Khan.
Lucky for England not to select this guy otherwise they will end up 7-8 under him. Expecting 6-0 or 5-1 by England.

Abdul Majeed – Fielding Coach
Who is he? Another desi coach without skill or qualification?

Apparently Wahab has communicated to Misbah that he is available for the Test leg of this tour as well, if needed

Poor, poor and poor team from Misbah but somewhat no surprise tbh. He trusts oldies that don't deliver. Hafeez, Malik, Bhatti, Sohail & Imran Khan, Faheem, Ifti chacha, Yasir Shah, Riaz to name a few. Also why is Imam there. God this team's only positive is Haider Ali being there, unfortunately he's probably on the bench.

Well Done :salute

The batting looks positive just didn’t need Malik and hafeez as I’m sick and tired of them.

The bowling is some garbage selections though I mean come on you couldn’t come up with better picks than Sohail Khan, Imran Khan, shemwari and to an extent riaz?????

Sorry naysayers... Babar, Haider, Khushdil, Fawad, Haris Rauf, Naseem, Shaheen, Hasnain.. enough to get excited about this squad. Unfortunately you need to have a mix of few experienced folks as well. Can't have all youngsters playing.

What experience do guys like Sohail, Imran, Malik and Hafeez bring? When has that ever been useful.

And and I not sure where we need the experience?

In tests you have Azhar, Asad, Shan and Babar. That is good enough. And even there the first two will go missing whenever it gets tough, it's been there career, certainly of late.
Naseem and Shaheen have more sense than the rest of the bowling attack combined. You have Abbas.

In T20's you have the best batsman in the world in your team. We certainly don't need Malik and Hafeez, especially when they are well past it and never were that good to begin with.

It's a random series (T20s), a chance to build your future team. Pakistan is the only team that somehow manages to chalk these matches up to experience as well.

If anyone needs any more proof of just how clueless Misbah is in any position be it selector, coach or captain, this is another shinning example.

I forgot about some other amazing selections in the form of Faheem, Iftikhar (especially if he is for tests), Shinwari (amazing form of late).

This is the gift that keeps on giving.

Some terrible selections, why the hell are the likes of Malik and Hafeez still being picked? What will Imran Khan and Sohail offer that they havent already. They are in their mid 30s.

hafeez, imran, sohail and riaz are terrible selections.

Also, Bilal Asif and Sajid Khan were much more deserving of being selected ahead of bhatti.

Amad, Qadir, Ahsan dumped without a proper chance.

Ahsan should never have been called up in the first place. No place for Qadir since it’s England, not much use for spinners, but tbh if you’re keeping Kashif Bhatti then surely you might as well have kept Qadir :)))

Amad definitely should have been kept in the squad.

There is some next level despair on this thread.

There are some disappointments definitely but not as many as some are making them out to be.

I think Ehsan Adil and Sharjeel Khan could have been there over Imran Khan and Mohammed Hafeez. Sharjeel might have to work on his fitness by looking at the stance of the management.

I like Zafar Gohar but Kashif Bhatti was more accurate in recent times as his economy of last two seasons shows and with two leggies in the squad who can go for runs its good to have variety with someone who can stop the flow of runs if conditions require. He is a pretty handy lower order batsman as well.

Coming to Faheem Ashraf, as always some people confuse formats. He took a fifer in the final for CP and scored 2 50s in 3 matches with batting average of over 50 and 9 wickets with bowling average of under 29. Completely outperforming other pace bowling allrounders in bowling department with Yamin averaging 40 with ball with 7 wickets in 5 matches and Amad butt who averaged 45 with the ball and took 11 wickets in 6 matches.

Yes Yamin is a more accomplished overall and I think would have moved the ball pretty well in Eng but if only one pace bowling allrounder was to be selected Faheem did better in FC season than Yamin.

Coming to Sohail Khan which has surprised many including me. Its an arguable selection and Sameen Gul or Ehsan Adil could have been very much selected over him. Advantage which Sohail Khan gives to an extent
is some experience of playing in Eng and he likes the conditions because of the swing available though last time he played in Eng was almost 4 years ago. His fitness has been fine as he bowled over 250 overs in last FC season and he can still move the ball but how well he will fare in test cricket abd whether he will get a game or not is another matter.

Really good to see Haider Ali in the squad, hopefully he will learn a lot from this tour by sharing the dressing room with Babar and coaches. Most complete young batsman we have had in a while.

So overall other than two three names which could have been there I dont think there is much wrong with the selections.

LOL @ Faheem Ashraf being a positive. :yk

Third class squad. Nothing more to say to be honest. Misbah always outdoes himself. Bringing all his old mates like Sohail Khan, Imran Khan Jnr back to the squad for a nice outing.

I think Misbah reads PP and selects some players just to spite some posters :p

Its a 29 man squad, you only need 11 on the field. There's obviously going to be some fillers

At first glance the squad is pretty disappointing - Imran Khan Jnr., Mohd Hafeez, Sohail Khan, Kashif Bhatti are all unexpected and I can't understand the vision behind selecting these names. That is to say nothing of selections like Malik, Wahab, and Fakhar who are also poor selections, but they were expected.

Having though of this a little further, this is a unique tour and the first time any board has had to select a team in this type of situation - so lets wait and see how the players are used. If Hafeez, IK, Sohail are getting extended games - that would be a travesty

I don't think its likely we will see Sohail/Imran/Kashif play unless there is some injuries or players ahead of them get COVID.

I don't really hate the Sohail pick in all honestly but Imran being picked is just extremely disappointing. I don't get what anybody sees in him, he can't swing the ball, offers little to no pace and can't do much with a reverse swinging ball either. I think Sameen Gul should have been picked instead of him.

However, I don't forsee Imran or even Sohail getting into a game. Usman Khan would like be picked before them.

Zafar Gohar should have been picked ahead of Kashif too but he doesn't seem to be in their plans at all so its not exactly surprising. Rest of picks are as expected.

Don't know why everyone hates the squad. 😂 It's pretty good. I'd just replace Sohail Khan, Faheem and Imran Khan.

Imam's selection makes no sense whatsoever

We have ruined some other careers before by being too impatient with youngsters. Yes Sami Aslam was outstanding in QAE 2019 but Imam is a youngster as well with already 7 centuries in ODIs, he looks to have a good temperament and has shown decent enough traits for a young batsman.

Selecting and then dropping without a consistent run from one format can have an effect on his overall progress as a player. Similar thing was done to many players and we have lost those players. Imam hasnt done well in 11 tests he has played as of now but he has mostly been selected as a backup opener and didnt get a consistent run.

Also one shouldnt forget why someone was selected in the first place, he was the 3rd highest scorer and highest as opener with an average of 49 in 2016 QAE trophy (The season before his debut). After that he has adapted to one format at international level well and there is no reason why he cant improve his game in tests as well considering it was his FC performances that got him into consideration.

Lol at people bashing Kashif bhatti. He's been really good in domestic and deserves to be selected.

Excited to see Haider Ali, Khushdil Shah and Fawad Alam included in the team. Kind of gutted to see Sarfraz back in the team tho. I thought we were over that guy.

Oh and Faheem as well...

Zafar Gohar should have been picked ahead of Kashif too but he doesn't seem to be in their plans at all so its not exactly surprising. Rest of picks are as expected.

Zafar is in the plans and he is a quality spinner but lets be honest I dont think he has pushed himself enough in the last couple of years. He has been okish with the ball and hasnt set the world on fire in any of the domestic tournaments. He was someone who was in the radar since his U19 days and debuted for Pak in ODIs when he was pretty young and missed test debut by missing his flight.

Good thing is his batting has improved but, he is not bowling upto his potential in recent times. He is in the mix but in tests I think Kashif Bhatti and even Nauman Ali are also in contention and Zafar other than being young and showing improvement in his batting hasnt done enough to get the call over them.

I still think he should be given international exposure again atleast in T20s to may be push him a little bit.

When it comes to the final 11, there's a few players there that can still be salvaged into a half decent team but am not 100% certain if the best players would be picked.

I don't think Sohail Khan will play but you never know with Misbah. A lot of us did say that Misbah was a bad choice as CS and HC but we were all angrily rebuked by others. Here is a prime example of what we had been saying all along.

However, now is not the time to bicker and need to get behind the team in whatever guise it takes. Although, this could be a difficult thing to do given the squad that's been selected.

Looks like we're going to be relying on Babar to save this tour with Shaheen as backup. It would have been good step to have include the likes of Sameen Gul, Zafar Gohar but at least Haider Ali is a positive.

So the dark days are over, and the good times are about to roll Hawkeye - where are you, would like to hear your opinion on this squad?

I’m going to make dua that Fawad proves everyone wrong. Come on Fawad bhai get that big comeback 100!!!!

Pakistan cricket team will leave for England in last week of June through a private jet, 24News HD has reported Friday.

Pakistan are scheduled to play three tests in August followed by an equal number of Twenty20 Internationals, with the matches taking place behind closed doors as part of measures to combat COVID-19.

The Pakistan Cricket Board and The England and Wales Cricket Board have agreed to go ahead with the tour to be played in a ‘bio secure’ environment. A private jet will reach Lahore airport on June 26 for Pakistan cricket team’s travel to England.

Earlier, Pakistan team were scheduled to leave for England in July but the PCB had requested the ECB for the earlier arrangements as it could not hold the training session for the team in Lahore due to the prevailing coronavirus pandemic situation in the country.

The ECB has hired the private jet for Pakistan team’s travel from June 26 to June 29 and Pakistan team is likely to depart on the night of June 27. Pakistan team will reach directly to Birmingham where they would be quarantined for 15 days as per the new protocol set by the UK government and would set training camp in Birmingham as well.

Before departure, all the players and officials will be tested for the coronavirus before June 25. Pakistan have announced a 28-member strong squad for both Test and T20 series and 41-member squad of Pakistan team including officials will leave for England. Pakistan will play first Test at Manchester from August 5 while second and third Test and T20 series would be played at Southampton.

The three-match T20 series will be played from Aug 28 to Sept 1. Both the venues have on-site hotel and were the obvious choice for the tour. The venues would have testing centres and zones that would be off-limits to anyone other than players and officials. These zones would separate the two teams, match officials, ground staff and the media, with movement between the zones strictly limited.

Don't know why everyone hates the squad. It's pretty good. I'd just replace Sohail Khan, Faheem and Imran Khan.

because every bacha on here thinks they are a chief selector. Everyones an expert in their own minds. But to be honest most dont know anything. Many havent even finished school yet.

Coming back to the squad. Pray tell how many places were up for grabs? hardly any..Sohail Khan back in? well hes in for the t20's..probably cover for any of the young fast bowlers. i doubt he'll play a test..

one thing to note is it doesnt look like a very hot summer at the moment. september is normally pretty chilly. If we have a heat wave we need guys who can reverse the ball. If its cloudy we need some seamers. i think they have covered all of our bases. Afridi will be our spearhead and everyone else will have to bowl around him.

I cant wait for the series to be frank..tired of no cricket.

Something which stands out in Misbah's tenure is a complete lack of consistency or logic to his selection.

- He selected Umar/ Shehzad when it made no sense to but dropped them after 2 innings.

- He dropped Malik and Hafeez for the Australia tour but selected them again for the easy home games against Bangladesh.

- He selected Ahsan Ali and Amad Butt and then dropped them without really giving them a chance.

- He asked who Usman Qadir is during a press conference, then suddenly selected him for Australia and Bangladesh t20s and then drops him without giving him a chance.

- He selected Musa for Tests in Australia when nothing in his First Class performances suggested he should be taken along over the likes of Sameen or Ehsan. However it appeared he was kept around the squad for his potential, which could be accepted given his age, fitness, work ethic etc. But now, he is suddenly dropped for SOHAIL KHAN... wow. What exactly was the planning here?

- He selected Imran Khan who was extremely mediocre throughout but retained him for no real reason.

- He brings back Shinwari when it is abundantly clear he is not a t20 or Test bowler but has been good in ODIs. (No ODIs on England tour).

- Kashif is kept in the squad without being given games when it would be more beneficial to give exposure to the likes of Zafar Gohar.

- He selects Sohail Khan on the basis of his performance in England FOUR years ago - when it was clear he lacked fitness then (rubbish second innings bowling) and is now 36. Even the brainless Rahat Ali would have made more sense.

Sohail khan, really?

Not much to get excited about other than haider

Zafar should have been in here

I would have also taken Zeeshan Asraf , he can’t do any worse than what we have in t20s

He hasnt keeped in tests.
Sohail I's thier for back up tbh dont expect him to play any chances

Gohar should have been included

Ugly, ugly squad - they had 29 spots to pick and loaded half the squad with obsolete oldies.

Normally, I try to rate any squad out of 10 - lost interest for this one.

Only ones who dont deserve to be in the squad is proberly wahab and sohail khan, imran Khan

Sohail khan, imran, khan, wahab shouldn't have been included but they were included due to experience and they will play intra matches that's about it.

Hafeez and malik are stil decent in t20s,sharjeel isnt fit enough maybe next tour he can play once hes improved his fitness.gohar should have been in the squad defo

These are OK selections for an England tour. The likes of Imran will get movement both ways with the Dukes. Problem is you will rob young bowlers of valuable experience.

Imran khan, sohail khan, wahab are thier for cover and will only play intra matches but u never no this is misbah.

Malik is stil decent enough in t20s and zafar should have been in squad instead of Bhatti.

They already have young bowlers in the squad
Shaheen,naseem,rauf,husnain

Again ashraf is picked and again Yamin is ignored.
Yasir shah is almost done and will be thrashed. Bhatti might replace him.

To the fans who think pak will best eng just becuase of Naseem and Shaheen, you're in for a treat because eng will destroy Pakistan.

It will be right series low scores from both teams england 2-1

A decent squad few surprised with wahab, imran Khan, and sohail khan.
Looking foward to shaheen with the new ball, naseem, haider ali

I believe wahab and sohail are thier for cover and nothing more but then its misbah

Some terrible selections, why the hell are the likes of Malik and Hafeez still being picked? What will Imran Khan and Sohail offer that they havent already. They are in their mid 30s.

They stil decent enough Malik and hafeez

the only spot open in the test team is haris's replacement so dont understand the disapointment.

shaheen, naseem, abbas are the front line seamers, with the fourth/fifth spot likely to go to some combination of yasir, fahim and shadab.

wahab is likely to be back up if anyone of the front liners breaks down, and i wouldnt be surprised if hasnain is ahead of others for a fast bowling spot how musa got a debut in aus.

openers will be abid and shan for two tests at least, which leaves imam as a back up.

middle order azhar, babar and asad will play every test, which leaves fawad/shadab/fahim as likely 6 or 7

so

abid
shan

azhar
babar
asad

rizwan (6 or 7 depending on fawad selection)
shadab/fahim/fawad

yasir /wahab / sohail / hasnain
shaheen
abbas
naseem
