Nothing new here. Both India and Pakistan keep spying on each other and they chase away each other's ships, planes etc all the time.

Forcing a sub to surface and then chase it to leave territorial waters is big deal though. Subs are supposed to be undetected, until they themselves reveal their location (by surfacing, or launching torpedos).

Recently a Chinese sub drifted across Indian waters and docked at Karachi, only then it was revealed that it had traveled through Indian waters undetected. Google it.

Then there are economic zone (EEZ) where a country can undertake fishing and drilling activities, other nation's ships can pass through here, naval ships passing through EEZ have to be in touch with naval services and show that they are not hostile, subs have to surface while passing through EEZ.

Pakistan's EEZ extends 80 nautical miles from the shore and reports are this sub was detected around 40 NM from the shore (so not in territorial waters, but in economic zone). The sub was detected by airborne sub detectors and locked on by anti-sub helicopters. Upon realizing that it has been detected the Indian sub surfaced (which is a declaration of surrender in submarine warfare) and it was then escorted out of Pakistani waters by Pakistani naval ships.

Obviously India denies all of this even though Pakistan has provided photographic and video evidence.

PAKISTAN NAVY LAUNCHES THIRD HANGOR CLASS SUBMARINE IN CHINA

The launching ceremony of the submarine PNS/M MANGRO (Designate) took place at the Shuangliu Base of Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd in Wuhan, China, attended by Vice Admiral Abdul Samad, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Project-2) as the Chief Guest.

While addressing the ceremony, Chief Guest stressed the significance of maritime security amid region’s current geo-strategic dynamics. He reaffirmed that Pakistan Navy remains fully committed to defend national interests while fostering a secure and cooperative maritime environment.

Referring to HANGOR Class Submarines, he highlighted that their cutting-edge weaponry and advanced sensors would be instrumental in sustaining regional power equilibrium and ensuring maritime stability.

Commending the dedicated work of China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC), he expressed satisfaction over steady progress of the project and remarked that HANGOR Class Submarine initiative would bring a fresh dimension to the enduring, time-honoured partnership between Pakistan and China.

The Government of Pakistan signed an agreement with CSOC to acquire eight HANGOR Class submarines. Under the contract, four submarines are being built in China, while the remaining four will be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW) under Transfer of Technology (ToT) program.

The high-ranking official from both nations attended the launching ceremony, including representatives from Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd and China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd.
