Muhammad Asif reaches Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship semifinals​

Pakistan's Muhammad Asif defeated Malaysia's Lim Kok Leong with a 5-3 win in a best-of-nine frames match to reach the semi-finals of the Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship in Colombo.

Asif dominated the early stages, winning the first three frames with scores of 67-0, 43-21, and 27-19, establishing a commanding 3-0 lead. Lim mounted a comeback, taking the fourth frame 59-31 and the fifth 38-32 after capitalising on Asif's missed black ball, narrowing the deficit to 3-2.

The Pakistani player regained momentum by clinching the sixth frame 38-25, but Lim responded strongly in the seventh, shutting out Asif 68-0.

The tightly contested eighth frame saw both players battling evenly until the final moments, when Lim fouled on a crucial pink ball, allowing Asif to pot it and seal the victory 41-21.

The final scoreline reflected Asif's resilience: 67-0, 43-21, 27-19, 31-59, 32-38, 38-25, 0-68, and 41-21.

In the semifinals, Asif will face another Malaysian opponent, Thor Chuan Leong, as he continues his quest for the title in the tournament.

Earlier, Pakistan's two other cueists, Mohammad Sajjad and Awais Munir were knocked out of the tournament in the quarter-final stage.

I have noticed Pakistan has been losing finals lately be it, baseball, field hockey, volleyball, we can even mention cricket in 2022.

They do well to get to the final, but cannot seem to find a way to get past the finish line and win in the end, when it matters the most.

Pakistan’s quest for the Asian 6-Red Snooker singles title concluded on Wednesday as veteran cueist Mohammad Asif fell 2-5 to Malaysia’s Thor Chun Leong in a hard-fought semi-final clash.

Despite the defeat, the 42-year-old secured a bronze medal for Pakistan at the ongoing championship in Colombo, marking the nation’s sole podium finish in the singles event.

The semi-final encounter saw Asif struggle to establish consistent momentum against his Malaysian opponent.

Leong claimed the opening frame decisively (39-5), but Asif responded with a 35 break to level the match [4-59(35)]. Leong then seized control, winning the next three frames consecutively [41-0, 62(35)-0, 1-43(35)].

Asif showed resilience to take the sixth frame [34(33)-25], narrowing the deficit to 2-4. However, Leong extinguished any hopes of a comeback with a dominant 70 break in the final frame [78(70)-0], sealing his place in the final.

Attention now shifts to the Team Championship commencing on Thursday, where Pakistan will field two squads in the 16-team event featuring representatives from 13 nations.

Pakistan 1 will see the pairing of Awaisullah Munir and Asif, while Pakistan 2 features national champion Shahid Aftab alongside experienced campaigner Mohammad Sajjad.

The teams have been divided into four groups, with each side playing three preliminary matches. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.

Pakistan drawn in tough group for AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers

Pakistan is set to embark on its debut journey in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026 qualifiers with a challenging group-stage assignment, as the official draw for the regional qualifiers was revealed.

The national team has been placed in Group D, alongside formidable opponents Iraq, Chinese Taipei, and group hosts Saudi Arabia—all established futsal nations in Asia.

The qualifiers, scheduled to take place from September 20 to 24, will feature 31 teams battling for 16 spots in the tournament finals.

The eight group winners and the seven best second-placed teams, along with host nation Indonesia, will qualify for the 18th edition of the prestigious continental competition, which will be held from January 27 to February 7, 2026.

To secure a place in the finals, Pakistan must finish top of their group or be among the seven best runners-up across all groups.

With Iraq’s higher regional ranking and Saudi Arabia benefitting from home support, the Green Shirts will have to deliver top-notch performances in all three of their matches.

Nevertheless, Pakistan's participation in the qualifiers marks a pivotal step forward in their pursuit of regional recognition.

A strong showing in September could enhance their chances of qualification and reinforce their emergence within Asia’s rapidly evolving futsal landscape.

Pakistan’s journey at the Asian 6-Red & Team Championship ended in Colombo on Saturday as Pakistan 1, the pairing of Awaisullah Munir and Mohammad Asif, were defeated 1-3 by Malaysia in the semi-finals.

Despite the loss, the duo secured bronze medal in the event.

Facing a strong Malaysian pair of Lim Kok Leong and Thor Chuan Leong, the Pakistan cueists found the going tough.

Malaysia seized control early, winning the opening frame convincingly with a 55 break [79(55)-24]. Pakistan 1, featuring defending Asian 6-Red singles champion Awaisullah and Asif, the nation’s most decorated cueist, responded positively in the second frame, securing it 42-75 to level the match.

However, Malaysia regained the initiative decisively in the third frame (65-25) and then sealed their place in the final by dominating the fourth frame with a significant 65 break [84(65)-47].

Asif and Awaisullah’s run, which included topping their group and a victory over compatriots Shahid Aftab and Mohammad Sajjad in the quarter-finals, earned them a place on the podium. This adds to the bronze medal secured earlier by Asif in the singles event.-

Pakistan crush South Korea 91-6 for third straight win at Youth Netball event

Pakistan’s youth netball team continued their dominant run at the Asian Youth Netball Championship 2025, crushing hosts South Korea 91-6 on Sunday to secure their third consecutive win and top the Pool B standings.

The green shirts dominated from the start, leading 23-2 in the first quarter and extending the margin to 45-3 by half-time. By the third quarter, the scoreline read 70-4 before Pakistan wrapped up the match at 91-6.

Outstanding performances came from Leya Raza Shah, Alisha Naveed, Haleema, Sarina Hussain, Jasmine Farooq, Farah Rasheed, Amani, Parisa, Sumayya Ahmed and Alina, who all contributed to the emphatic victory.

Pakistani martial artist Rashid Naseem has achieved his 154th Guinness World Record by delivering 386 full-contact punches in 60 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 374 set by England’s Josh Llewellyn-Jones.

Naseem, who holds the most world records in Pakistan’s history, has now officially been recognised by Guinness World Records as the World’s Fastest Boxing Punch Expert.

Dedicating his latest feat to the people of Palestine, he further cemented his position as the most decorated record-holder globally in the punch category.

Pakistan secured their place in the semifinal stage of the Asian Youth Girls Netball Championship 2025 after defeating Maldives 49-39 in their fifth and final group match at the Jeonju Hwasan Gymnasium, Jeonju-si, South Korea on Tuesday.

Pakistan through to Asian netball final after defeating Japan

Pakistan defeated Japan 64-39 to storm into the final of the Asian Youth Netball Championship in Jeonju-si, South Korea, on Thursday, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.

The Green Shirts had a strong start with a 21-7 lead over Japan in the first quarter. By halftime, they extended the score to 34-19.

The third quarter saw Pakistan lead 42-28 before ending the game at 64-39 and sealing their spot in tomorrow’s final.

Leya Raza Shah, Alisha Naveed, Sumayya Kouser , Haleema ,Jasmine Farooq, Sumayya ,Jasmine, Amani, Parisa and Farah Rasheed displayed top notch performances during the match, said a press release.

The president, chairman and secretary general of the Pakistan Netball Federation congratulated the Pakistan team on winning the semi-final.

Five Pakistani climbers summit Nanga Parbat​

Five Pakistani mountaineers conquered the treacherous 8,126-meter Nanga Parbat within last 24 hours, with two climbers achieving the feat without supplemental oxygen. Among them, Ashraf Sadpara reached the milestone of summiting all five of the country’s 8,000-meter peaks.

The Alpine Club of Pakistan and various mountaineering community sources have confirmed to Geo News that Dr Rana Hassan Javed, Ali Hassan, Sohail Sakhi, Ashraf Sadpara, and Shehzad Karim successfully reached the summit of the "Killer Mountain."

Sadpara and Sakhi accomplished their climbs without artificial oxygen, a rare feat on one of the world’s most dangerous peaks.

Ashraf Sadpara, son of the late legendary climber Ali Raza Sadpara, summitted Nanga Parbat early Friday morning, marking his final ascent of Pakistan’s five 8,000-meter peaks—K2 [three times], Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, and now Nanga Parbat.

"This morning, the renowned Pakistani climber Ashraf Sadpara successfully summited the mighty Nanga Parbat. With this achievement, Ashraf has now summited all five of Pakistan’s 8,000-meter peaks, including K2, which he has climbed three times—a testament to his unmatched determination, skill, and spirit of adventure.

We are incredibly proud of your contribution to Pakistan’s mountaineering legacy," said Ayaz Ahmed Shigri of Alpine Club of Pakistan.

Sohail Sakhi, a climber from Hunza, reached the summit at 11am [local time] without supplemental oxygen or Sherpa support. Expedition company Moving Mountains confirmed his achievement.

"This isn’t just a climb — it’s a monumental achievement in Pakistani mountaineering. Taking on the Killer Mountain without support and succeeding is the mark of a true legend. Sohail has previously summited Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II [both without oxygen], and K2. With this Nanga Parbat ascent, he solidifies his place among the mountaineering elite," they said in a statement.

Dr Rana Hassan Javed, a Rawalpindi-based plastic surgeon, summited Nanga Parbat as part of an eight-member international team. This marks his second 8,000-meter peak after Gasherbrum II in 2024. Fellow climber Naila Kiani acknowledged his accomplishment, saying: "Dr Hassan Rana summited Nanga Parbat, this is his second 8,000er. Last year he summited Gasherbrum II. He balances his profession as a doctor and his passion for mountaineering with incredible dedication."

Ali Hassan, a high-altitude porter from Hushe Valley, also reached the summit along with Dr Rana on Thursday while Sherzad Karim, also from Hunza, summited at 1pm [local time] on Friday

Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth-highest peak, is notorious for its extreme weather and high fatality rate. All climbers are now descending, with expedition teams monitoring their safe return.

Pakistan's squash player makes obscene finger gesture towards opponent after loss, storms out without handshake

In a startling turn of events at the Asian Junior Squash Championship, Pakistani Under-17 player Mehwish Ali stirred controversy after making an obscene gesture toward her opponent following a hard-fought Round of 16 clash.

The 17-year-old was seen making an offensive finger gesture towards Hong Kong’s Chung Y L shortly after the conclusion of their match, which ended with scores of 13-11, 5-11, 11-13, 4-11 in favour of Chung. The unsportsmanlike act, captured on video, quickly went viral across social media platforms, drawing widespread criticism and raising questions about on-court conduct and discipline in junior sports.

The Pakistan player had initially extended her arm for a handshake, but Chung was celebrating, seemingly with her team at the time. Annoyed by this and her loss, Ali showed the obscene gesture and left the court without a handshake, even as Chung promptly returned.

It remains to be seen whether she will be punished for the unsportsmanlike conduct.

This is not the first time a junior Pakistan player has ignited controversy for their unruly behaviour. During the U16 Davis Cup tie in Kazakhstan this May, a Pakistani player stirred controversy with a disrespectful handshake gesture after defeat. The Indian player stayed composed, walking away without reacting.

Pakistan have otherwise asserted some dominance at the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships in Gimcheon, as five of its players stormed into the semifinals with commanding performances on Thursday.

Each of the five Pakistani contenders secured straight-game victories (3-0).

In the Boys’ Under-19 division, third seed Abdullah Nawaz delivered a confident performance against Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Kuen. Controlling the tempo from the outset, Nawaz never allowed his opponent to find rhythm, sealing a straight-games victory with scores of 11-4, 11-6, 11-6.

Meanwhile, in the Boys’ Under-15 category, top seed Nauman Khan showcased agility in his 11-6, 11-5, 11-7 win over India’s Harshal Rana. Joining him in the last four was fellow countryman Ahmad Rayyan Khan, who made short work of Malaysia’s Armann Merzha bin Ashraff.

Asif, Shahid off to flying start at IBSF World Masters Snooker Championship

Pakistan’s cueists Mohammad Asif and Shahid Aftab kicked off their IBSF World Masters Snooker Championship campaign with impressive wins, sealing their places in the knockout stage on the opening day of the event in Bahrain.

The championship features 43 players from 15 countries, and both Asif and Shahid remained unbeaten on day one, winning both their group matches.

Placed in Group C, IBSF world champion Mohammad Asif displayed exceptional form to win both the matches without dropping a single frame.

He began the day with a 3-0 victory over Oman’s Haitham Bin Ali, with frame scores of 89-33, 69-4, and 53-6.

Asif registered a break of 61 in the first frame and a 46 in the second, underlining his control over the table throughout the match.

Asif powers into Masters last 16, Shahid exits

Pakistan’s campaign at the IBSF World Masters Snooker Championship saw contrasting fortunes on Tuesday as Mohammad Asif stormed into the last 16 while compatriot Shahid Aftab bowed out following hard-fought battles.

Asif, who won the Saarc Championship last year, delivered a masterclass in the last 24 round, dismantling Wales’ Tony Morgan 3-0.

The 42-year-old displayed formidable break-building, sealing victory with runs of 55 [74(55)-10], a near-perfect 90 [106(90)-0] and 61 [89(61)-11]. Asif now faces Mohamed Shehab of the UAE in Wednesday’s last 16 round.

Earlier, current national champion Shahid exited the championship after a 4-2 defeat to Qatar’s Bashar Abdulmajeed in the pre-quarters.

Shahid fought valiantly, levelling the match 1-1 with a 65 break [6-77(65)] after dropping the opener. Shahid took the lead in the following frame 74-18 but Abdulmajeed claimed the next three tightly contested frames [74-29, 64-50, 60-47] to advance.

In the concurrently running Under-17 championship, Mohammad Hasnain Akhtar made a strong start.

The young cueist dominated Qatar’s Abdulla Al Musleh 3-0, showcasing promising breaks of 35 [72(35)-2], 40 [65(40)-9] and 31 [81(31)-14].

The Under-17 event features 32 players from 15 nations competing across eight groups, with the top two from each advancing to the pre-quarterfinals.

Pakistan’s seasoned cueist Muhammad Asif stormed into the IBSF World Masters Snooker Championship final with a commanding 4-2 victory over India’s Manan Chandra in the semi-final here at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain on Thursday.

The former world amateur champion displayed resilience as he recovered from being one frame down to winning the high-stakes clash 4-2 with frame scores of 118-6, 0-84, 25-76, 92-11, 87-62 and 72-41.

Asif started the match on a high as he completely outclassed Chandra 118-6 in the opening frame.

Chandra, however, responded strongly as he won the next two frames to take the lead, only for Asif to win three consecutive frames to round up a thumping victory.

In the final, Muhammad Asif will face India’s Vijay Nichani or Brijesh Damani, who earlier defeated him in the group stage.

Earlier today, Pakistan’s emerging cueist Hasnain Akhtar also qualified for the final IBSF World U17 Snooker Championship by defeating Poland’s Oliwier Nizialek 4-0.

The in-form cueist, who has thus far lost only one frame in his dominant campaign, took early control of the match by sealing three consecutive frames.

Nizialek, who could not score in double digits in each of the first three frames, offered some fightback in the must-win contest, but his efforts were insufficient to down Hasnain, who secured a perfect 4-0 victory with the frame scores of 76-1, 69-8, 88-0 and 62-37.

Hasnain Akhtar will face Wales’ Riley Powell in the final, scheduled to be played on Friday.

Notably, the 16-year-old booked his spot in the IBSF World U17 Snooker Championship semi-final with a resounding 3-1 victory over Poland’s Krzysztof Czapnik.

Pakistan on Friday beat India 3-0 in the Asian Men’s U-16 Volleyball Championship semi-final being held in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand.

“Team Pakistan U-16 Men’s Volleyball continues its dream run at the 2nd Asian Men’s U-16 Volleyball Championship 2025 in Thailand by defeating arch-rivals India in the semi-final,” the Pakistan Volleyball Association announced in a post on Instagram.

Pakistan beat India with a clean sweep by winning three straight sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-12).

Muhammad Asif beats India’s Damani to win IBSF World Masters Championship

Pakistan’s seasoned cueist Muhammad Asif added another feather to his cap as he edged past India’s Brijesh Damani 4-3 to win the IBSF World Masters Snooker Championship here at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain on Friday.

Asif, who had earlier lost against Damani in the group stage, got off to a commanding start to the summit clash by clinching the first two frames.

Damani, however, responded strongly by winning three consecutive frames and securing a crucial lead.

But Asif displayed great resilience as he clinched the sixth frame comprehensively to force the match into the decider.

In the seventh and final frame, Asif completely outclassed Damani and avenged his group-stage 3-0 thrashing with a 98-37, 75-55, 0-80, 49-52, 41-64, 91-29 and 78-9 victory.

The IBSF World Masters Snooker Championship marked Muhammad Asif’s sixth world title as the 36-year-old has won two team and three individual titles during his glittering career.

For the unversed, Asif had booked his spot in the final by defeating another Indian opponent, Manan Chandra, 4-2.

PSB demands expense details of PHF officials’ overseas visits​

The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has officially asked the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to provide a full record of the foreign visits made by its President and Secretary, including a breakdown of the expenses related to these trips.

The request comes in response to increasing concerns about transparency and financial management within the federation.

According to a letter recently sent by the PSB to the PHF, the board clarified that it is not responsible for paying travel allowances (TA/DA) to players and officials during international tours — a responsibility that lies solely with the federation itself.

The letter specifically mentions the Nation’s Cup held in Malaysia, highlighting that despite receiving funds from the PSB last year, the PHF has failed to provide any details on how those funds were utilised.

The PSB noted that both verbal and written reminders had been repeatedly issued to the PHF leadership — including the President and Secretary — but no satisfactory response had been received.

On May 30, 2025, the PHF had admitted in writing that it had funds available in its bank accounts; however, players still had not received their daily allowances.

On July 20, another formal request for clarification was made, but as of now, no reply has been provided.

The PSB has emphasised that if the PHF is facing financial difficulties, it must first submit proper accounting records. These should include bank statements from the last six months, a full breakdown of the foreign tours undertaken by the PHF President and Secretary during that period, and the exact expenses involved.

Additionally, the PSB has asked for documentation related to the establishment of a new PHF office in Islamabad. This includes the official approval of the executive board for setting up the office, which the PSB now demands as proof.
