Pakistan performance against India in ICC games

Paks record against India in the ICC games can be described as abysmal. So the question needs to be asked

Is the Pak team not able to get up to it overwhelmed by the moment and choking on the big one (with 2021 being the 1 exception)

or

where they simply bringing value by playing cheerleaders to put it mildly

It’s not a rivalry based on competitiveness, it’s a match that fuels on jingoistic nonsense on either side.

Even if either of the two teams become as bad as associate nations, you will still have a political rivalry that hypes this stupid match.

the quality of the cricket doesnt matter, indians love pakistan as is obvious by the sheer number of indians on this forum, therefore icc makes a bucket load of money from indians who want to watch pakistan (because as we have been told ad nasuem by indians on this forum, pakistanis are too poor to make a diff to icc coffers)

for me India–Pakistan matches are just like any other game,

but what really makes them entertaining is the hype that India builds around them. Their news channels go into full drama mode days before the game, endless debates, over-the-top graphics, loud anchors shouting, and dramatic music as if it’s some kind of war.

All of that noise ends up making Pakistan feel extremely important, almost like the entire cricket world revolves around this one fixture.

the media spectacle they create is more entertaining than the match itself.

Indians do pay massive amounts to see India thrash Pakistan a couple of times each year. It's tough to make a good estimate but I would say up to 30% of the value of the rights for ICC tournaments is for the guarantee of an India-Pakistan game or two especially since almost the whole value of the rights is in India.

I think the Modi government and it's acolytes have played a huge role in building up the value of these games. They were reducing in intensity since the epic clashes in the noughties but the depiction of Pakistan as a capable, worthwhile enemy (when it really isn't) because Modi & co. needed a villain have whipped up the hysteria and again built up the hype.

I suspect the value of these rare, annual games is incredibly high now. Only semi-finals or finals in which India is involved have a higher value. It's almost a perfect scenario - the hype is insane and for the broadcasters, you can build it up safely and whip up emotions as you know the Indian team WILL deliver by demolishing the Pakistanis. Even a rare loss (as long as it is rare) will only further increase the hype.

Indo Pak games are cash cow for ICC. Infact, the only reason we get an ICC event every year so that India and Pakistan can play against each other. Remove this game and ICC will struggle to sustain.

Now why this game is such a money maker? First due to politics, then due to religion and lastly because of novelty since we dont play with each other bilaterally. Infact, ask any cricket board around the world - ECB, CA anyone....they would give a limb and arms to host an Indo Pak game. So posters who are crying of rigged scheduling has no clue. Yes its rigged but there is a reason behind it. Remember ICC is no FIFA or IOC and neither cricket is Football or Olympics.

Onfield performance really dont matter to ICC atleast in bigger scheme of things. The reason India has done well because they are a better team. Had we been playing regular cricket, that H2H record where Pakistan leads would have been history few years ago by now. I also feel India go into these games as just another cricket match where as Pakistan treats them as a jung (war), defating of kaffirs etc. Remember Waqar Younis's statement?

Pakistan defeated India in one of the most important ICC game though in CT2017 finals. So they have hit us when it hurted the most. So not all doom and gloom for PCT.

I am not sure if religion is one of the main factors as you have mentioned. There are muslim players in team India too. Politics and the fact that they don't play against each other often are the two main reasons for the hype I guess.

Pakistan won a single World cups game against india in entire history so they will only talk about it for w decades.

India has to win every game to make things normal but for pakistan a single match is enough for a decade.

For years I mostly worried about Australia and NZ never Pakistan. I just did not want a banana slip moment against Pakistan. Other than that it doesn't matter much. India also is afraid backlash at home that is why some games go close.
