Military might on display as nation celebrates Pakistan Day

Dignitaries participating in the 48th session of OIC-CFM witness the Pakistan Day parade as guests of honour

The nation is celebrating Pakistan Day on Wednesday with the armed forces displaying their full might during the annual military parade held in Islamabad, with envoys and dignitaries participating in the 48th Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) session attending as guests of honour.

The day commemorates the passage of the historic Lahore Resolution which was signed on March 23 in 1940, under which Muslims of the sub-continent aimed for a separate homeland for themselves.

The day began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and a 21-gun salute in all provincial capitals.

President Arif Alvi, in his address on the occasion, said Pakistan was a responsible atomic power that desired peace with all countries. He also stated that the country would “never compromise on its security and sovereignty” and would give a fitting response to any aggression.

Highlighting extremism and the spread of fake news, the president said it was a big challenge facing society and called upon teachers, parents and scholars to play their part in resolving these issues.

In his message to the nation, Prime Minister Imran Khan said March 23 was the day for the nation to renew its commitment to adhere to the principles of justice and equity; the real objectives of the creation of Pakistan.

“Today, we pay tribute to the Father of the Nation and all the leaders of the Freedom Movement who struggled for uniting the nation through their unparalleled sacrifices. It is important for our youth to note that Pakistan came into being through a long democratic struggle and now the key to its stability and development also lies in hard work, honesty and morality.”

“While commemorating this day, we need to adhere to the principles of unity, faith and discipline given by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and rededicate ourselves to develop Pakistan as a truly democratic welfare state on the model of Riyasat-e-Madina."

"On this day, it is pertinent to reflect upon the challenges confronting us as a nation. Our government has brought in long-term reforms and initiatives to alleviate poverty and promote justice. Our focus remains on the marginalized segments of the society and to provide them equal opportunities. Kamyab Pakistan Program offers huge economic benefits for the youth, farmers, small scale businesses and low-cost housing sector. Our flagship initiative of Qaumi Sehat Card will provide universal health coverage to all citizens, that is unprecedented in the history of our country.”

“We are now on the path to regain our past glory that was disrupted by previous regimes who gave importance to self-interests rather than national interest and welfare of the people. The struggle to eliminate corruption and improve moral standards would require the same persistence as our founding fathers persevered during the freedom movement,” he added.

The highlight of the day was the grand military parade in Islamabad, where contingents of the three armed forces and other security forces conducted a march past while fighter aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) presented a flypast, led by the chief of PAF.

Different floats depicting various aspects of culture from different provinces are also part of the parade.

Special prayers were also offered in mosques after Fajr prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.

Various organisations and departments have also planned a number of activities including seminars, conferences and discussion programs to highlight the historical significance of Pakistan Day.

May Allah bless all those that supported this resolution. Otherwise we too would have faced a life of fear like those Muslims that live in Ind today.

Happy Pakistan Day.

Under IK there have been no drone strikes, something which he promised.

What an army this country has with nuclear power. If Pakistan was weak it would also be destroyed like Libya, Syria, Iraq etc

Pakistan was formed to give us a separate identity. Yes we have so many problems yet our ladies can dress in hijab if they want including schools. We don't have to marry non Muslim's for the sake of political correctness. We can eat as much beef as we want without being beaten up for it.

If above is what defines as Pakistan, then it's good that India got separated. With such small mentality to create rifts, one can't survive for long.

No wonder east Pakistan got separated since while concentrating about beef, hijab all the time with an attitude of "I'll do whatever I want", it forgot what the muslim Bengali brothers wanted.

East Pakistan was gonna separate eventually with India in the middle. As for it being "good" you need to tell the Akhand Bharat RSS type that independence of Pak was that. Similarly Jinnah saheb broke India on the basis of religion too that we can now see was a great decision seeing the never ending Hindu-Muslim fighting in India.

Mubarak to all Pakistanis.

Wish we had more to celebrate but guess history will do for now.

President, PM felicitate nation on Pakistan Day

In their separate messages on the occasion of Pakistan Day, President Arif Alvi, Prime Minster Shehbaz Sharif, speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly and the Punjab governor conveyed their greetings and congratulated the nation.

In his message, Prime Minster Shehbaz Sharif described March 23 as an “epoch-making day in our national history”, saying that it reminds us of our past, invites us to ponder over our present state of affairs and inspires us to build a prosperous future.

He said this day is also the day to renew our pledges and takes us back to 1940 when Muslims of the sub-continent approved a resolution for the establishment of a separate homeland they could call their own under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The prime minister said it was Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s dream of freedom that manifested itself in the form of a resolution representing Muslims’ demands, and aspirations for a separate homeland.

The consequential seven years witnessed history in the making as the Quaid-i-Azam led a struggle to translate the dream of Iqbal into reality, he said.

Army limits scale of military parade today
A limited number of guests had been invited to the parade, according to sources

The army has decided to conduct the traditional military parade on the Pakistan Day on a limited scale to save expenses as part of the government’s austerity measures, it was learnt on Wednesday.

The Pakistan Day is celebrated on March 23 every year to commemorate the passage of the Lahore resolution in 1940, which formed the basis of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Subcontinent.

The main event of the day is the joint military parade of the armed forces of Pakistan. However, this year, the scale of the parade had been cut back. On Thursday (today) the parade would be held in the Presidency, instead of its regular venue of Shakar Parian.

A limited number of guests had been invited to the parade, according to sources. They added that Pakistan Army had limited the scale of the parade to save money. “The Army stands with the nation in these difficult times,” a source added

The nation will celebrate the Pakistan Day on Thursday (today) with a commitment to ensure progress, prosperity and a strong defence of the country. The day will dawn with 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salute in provincial capital.

The Pakistan Day parade, scheduled to be held on Thursday (today), has been rescheduled due to inclement weather, the President’s House stated.

The joint services parade, which was due to be held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, will now be held on March 25.

Pakistan Day commemorates the passing of the Lahore Resolution on March 23, 1940, when the All-India Muslim League demanded a separate nation for the Muslims of the British Indian empire.

The nation is celebrating Pakistan Day on Thursday with a renewed pledge to transform the country into a "true Islamic welfare state" in line with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and to ensure its progress, prosperity and strong defense.
