Pakistan selectors name 18-player squad for the three T20Is against Bangladesh

Pakistan cricket selectors have named an 18-player squad for the three T20Is against Bangladesh, which will be played in Dhaka on 19, 20 and 22 November.

The only change in the side that has qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 semifinals is of Mohammad Hafeez who, following discussions with Chief Selector Muhammad Wasim, has opted out so that younger batters can get opportunities to perform and gain international experience and exposure.

As such, an in-form Iftikhar Ahmed has been added to the middle-order that also includes Haider Ali and Khushdil Shah.

Pakistan squad for the two Tests, which will be played from 26-30 November and 4-8 December in Chittagong and Dhaka, respectively will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board has retained the same team management that is presently in the United Arab Emirates, barring batting consultant Matthew Hayden who is not available due to prior commitments.

Everytime he goes to bat he is on -20 already because of the pathetic fielding he has done or will do. This guy should at least work on his fielding. Hafeez and Malik despite being 40 are fielding in hot spots and saving 15-20 runs per innings.
 
Malik is good, players have to lear. The art of spin playing from him Bangladesh there will be rank turner's, but he has to go before world cup I think.

Ramiz's stance is very clear on tainted players. As long as Ramiz is the PCB Chairman, Sharjeel will not represent Pakistan again.
 
One year is not a lot of time to build a new side. Not sure how many T-20's Pakistan plays from now to the next T-20 WC in Australia in 2022. Touring Australia with raw newbies is very tough for new players. Better for Hafeez, Malik to delay their retirements till the end of the 2022 T-20 WC.
 
Would have liked to have seen some more new faces and maybe rested a few, but seems the PCB and Mohammad Wasim are taking this series, seriously.

Remind me the last time Sharjeel dropped a catch or cost runs due to his fielding?

Wasn’t Muhammad Nawaz banned for a year for not reporting an approach made by a bookie?

As they should. We all remember what happened on the 2015 tour. Bang at home (no matter how awful they are as a whole overall) are not to be underestimated
 
This should be the last chance for Khushdil.He probably won’t get a game but if he does then he has to perform.I think Chacha Ifkhar will get games.He and Haider are replacements for Hafeez and Malik.Dhani and Wasim jr must play in at least too games.It will be interesting to see what sort of pitches are prepared by Bangla.
 
Too short a turnaround from this World Cup. I would have rested some of the main players, like SSA or Babar or Rizwan, at least for the T20I series. Certainly full strength for the Tests however.

Precisely. Hence why they have kept the squad from the T20WC and have added the reserve players.

You have the test championship being played so guys like Shaheen, Hassan Ali will need selecting. By all means don't play them in the t20s but tests are a must for them.

He's an opener. No way he's gonna get selected for the slot as long as Rizwan and Babar are performing. Plus there's Fakhar and Haider Ali in the squad so even if they want to tinker with the opening slots, they have options.

I see Iftikhar Ahmad being a main stay of Pak cricket in near future.

for me the backbone of Pak cricket will be

Babar-Rizwan-Iftikhar-SSA across formats ....

Youngsters of likes of HHaider - Saud - Dahani - Harris - Azam Khan (Yes he will be back) Shadab to play around them

Rizwan and Babar isn’t the best opening combo though, even though we’ve won 5 games. Fakhar can stay at 3 and Haider can play at 4. Rizwan can be our specialist WK who doesn’t need to bat.
 
I was expecting Pakistan to rest some of the main players from this T20 serious. Surprised only one change was made.

Can he sprint to save a four or reduce a 2 into 1 by his fielding? He literally jogs towards the ball.
 
Pak are going to need big hitters of the ball for the next WC like Asif, Sharjeel, Haider etc.

So, they need to be getting the most games from now on.

Yes, I’ve seen him make dives near the boundary to prevent fours.

If we’re going to pick players based on their fielding then Haider Ali cannot get into the Pakistan squad, would you agree?

It's hilarious.... Hafeez opts out to give opportunities to younger players so the selectors decide to troll him and pick someone who is potentially the same age as Hafeez.... might even be older!!!
 
Nice to see shoaib Malik there, I’m glad he’s not retiring just yet, he’s still a T20 must. I’m hoping he delays his retirement until after the t20 World Cup next year.
 
Should have rested all the fast bowlers playing in current WC T20.

Replace them with Hasnain, Wasim jar, Dahani and Nasim Shah.
 
Sarfraz has no place in T20 team. Should be replaced with M Harris or Rohail.
 
One thing that i love about Rameez Raja is that tainted players wont be making it into the team.

The squad should have been picked after the end of T20 WC. Its easier to introduce young players into a confident team than a losing one. At least 2 new young batsman should have been introduced and I don't see the point of picking Malik for this team.

usman qadir, waseem jr, haidder ali, khushdil and dhani are new
 
I think part of reason for consistent squad is biosecure bubble so for e.g. even if Shaheen or Hasan are rested for t20 since they will be part of test squad it would not have made sense from them to break from t20i bubble and travel home and then travel again to Bangladesh so e everyone will go together. I am quite sure they will use last 2 t20 if not all 3 to give games to guys who didn't play in playing Xi of world cup games and hence an 18 member squad otherwise it doesn't make any sense to carry 7 extra players for 3 t20s.
 
What the hell is Sarfraz Ahmed is doing in the squad.... rather have a young upcoming keeper in the team... the selectors are stupid...

Not sure when that happened. All I am saying is Sharjeel has alot going against him. His past, he is competing for same spot with Babar, Rizwan and Fakhar, his physique, his lack of ability to take quick 2s and 3s. Haider Ali’s list is small as compared to Sharjeel.

Hafeez is replaced by a guy senior to him, Iftikhar.

I wanted 2 totally new batsman and given a run. The bowling is coming along nicely but the batting is reliant on Babar and Riz, it has no depth in quality and if those 2 guys fail, we lose.

If Fakhar can drop down to 3 to accommodate Rizwan and Babar then why can’t the same be done for Sharjeel? Why can’t he be played at 4-5 when Hafeez and Malik are gone?

This seems a bit ridiculous no? Rizwan and Babar have done a lot more than win 5 games as well.

To replace them for an overweight, unfit, shameless fixer who isn't even that good seems crazy and i'm glad sense is being seen to keep Sharjeel well away from the national team.
 
Confusing squad to say the least. Why are Shaheen/Babar/Rizwan/Hasan being selected at all? They have played so much, just rest them a little. It is completely irrelevant whether or not they win a meaningless T20 series vs Bangladesh.

And why is Malik being selected at all? Honestly, I hope Malik has enough sense to retire himself after this tournament and go out a high where he is in good graces with most fans and going out of top instead of the usual disgraceful ways Pakistan cricketers are forced to be kicked to the curb. There should be some self realization and understanding your game is not suited for the Australian WC at all. All he is going to get is a lot of pace & bouncers and get absolutely wrecked in Australia.

I do think Iftikhar inclusion is pretty good. He did really well in Australia and I think he's the perfect replacement for Hafeez/Malik. I don't see Khushdil doing well vs pace in Australia but the notable exclusion is Sharjeel who would. Likely the Ramiz Raja effect but he has been back on the Pakistan side already at this point so I think they should include him.

An early Australia WC side IMO: Rizwan/Babar/Fakhar/Haider/Iftikhar/Asif/Wasim/Shadab/Hasan/Rauf/Shaheen

No reason for Malik to be there either. He has played in 4 different decades, surely its time to move on after the World Cup. He has played well and can leave with his held high.
 
I would have liked to see some more new players in the squad like Kamran Ghulam & Arshad Iqbal.
 
Should whitewash them easily and send them down from an undeserved 8 ranking in t20
 
Shaheen and Hassan Ali should have been rested for the t20s.

Malik should make way for a younger player.
 
Shaheen should have been rested in my opinion. But its still the best squad they could have selected.

Can't explain how happy I am to not see Sharjeel's name in there.
 
I would give a chance to Nawaz,Qadir,Dahani and rest some players from the world cup squad

Poor selection from PCB.

Should have rested Babar, Shaheen, Hafeez and Malik.

Haider, Dhani, Hasnain, Naseem Shah, Usman Qadir, Kamran Ghulam should be given chance.
 
Shoaib Malik and Hafeez has the best opportunity to retire from international cricket after having a nice run in WC.

No matter what team we are sending Bangladesh, we can't win against them in home condition. Then again Hafeez and Malik has to wait for some halwa series to cash in and then retire.
 
Next worldcup is just a year after and there is not much time left.just like the current world Cup squad has been picked keeping in view conditions in UAE Pakistan must start grooming players who can play on bouncy pitches..so it brings in players like
Sharjeel,Haider Ali,Fakhar,Babar,Hafeez..
Among youngsters Haider plays short ball good and may be salman agha,Azam Khan..My batting line may be

I agree with the posters who want to see players being rested, it's a perfect chance for inexperienced players to be given a chance.

Let the newbie Fast bowlers fight it out for the 2nd new ball bowlers spot, this should be the main priority for this Series

They need batsmen who can play backfoot shots well. They need bowlers who can bowl heavy balls.

Ideally, Pakistan need to develop someone as proper bowling all-rounder.

Babar , Fakhar , Asif Ali , Rizwan , Imad , shadab , shaheen should be in the team

Rest are to be developed

Need a fast bowling all rounder for Australian conditions.

Hasan Ali would be the least wanted there or anywhere , Hasnain probably will do better there .
 
Dahani should be bowling with the New ball am not to sure about Wasim Jnr

Yes, I agree.

Would be nice seeing him bowl that back-of-a-length and pepper the batsmen with short stuff.

I would play Haider Ali so he can learn how to bat on spinning pitches. Rest Rizwan because he just came off a very serious injury.

I'm excited about the test matches, frankly, I think that this Bangladesh tour will do justice to some players who have merited a spot on the team for quite some time.

I want to see Saud Shakeel break into the test team given Azhar Ali's fading performances.

One of Imran Butt/Abid Ali needs to be dropped for Abdullah Shafique, because he's a better option than them.

Do you really expect imran butt/ abid to be dropped after how they have been playing on the flat Pakistan wickets.

But azhar Ali has been poor this tournament
 
Test match will be boring. bangladesh test team is a mess, as it their t20. shouldve just had 3 odi matches instead and be done with it.
 
Babar/Rizwan/Shaheen/Hasan should all be rested. They have played a lot in the past year and I would rather see them fresh for the Test matches anyways.

It's important to give Haider/Iftikhar etc proper chances in a bigger role as well.
