Pakistan Shaheens will tour England this year after July, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Saturday. But complete fixture yet to be released

“Meanwhile, camp for Pakistan Shaheens ahead of their tour to England will commence in Karachi from 10 July,” the PCB shared in its statement.

The cricket board has also announced that the list of players shortlisted for the Pakistan Shaheens will be disclosed in due time.

This upcoming tour will be the Shaheens' first significant expedition since their visit to Darwin, Australia, in August of last year.

During the Darwin tour, the Shaheens competed in the Top End T20 series, which included Big Bash League (BBL) teams Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers, as well as the Bangladesh High-Performance XI.

The Shaheens' latest outings were in February when the PCB selected three separate squads to take part in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 warm-up matches.

The first Shaheens team faced Afghanistan at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on February 14, securing a commanding 144-run victory.

The other two matches, against South Africa and Bangladesh, were held simultaneously on February 17 in Karachi and Dubai, respectively.

The Shaheens experienced mixed outcomes in these fixtures: the side led by Mohammad Haris dominated Bangladesh with a seven-wicket win and 91 balls to spare, while the team captained by Mohammad Huraira narrowly lost to South Africa by three wickets. South Africa later advanced to the semi-finals of the eight-team tournament.

Great to see this happening and in England. The Shaheens need to have more exposure to SENA countries so it's nice to see these types of tours. Hope there is some FC matches in this tour too.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has today announced an 18-member Pakistan Shaheens squad to tour England from 17 July to 6 August for two three-day and three 50-over matches. The dates and venues of the fixtures will be announced in due course.

Saud Shakeel (19 Tests) is set to lead the team, while he will be joined by three other Test capped players in Mir Hamza (seven Tests), Musa Khan (one Test) and Sajid Khan (12 Tests). Among other players, Azan Awais (844) and Maaz Sadaqat (646), who finished as the leading run scorers, respectively in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25 have been selected.

Other batters include Ali Zaryab, Haider Ali, Mohammad Suleman, Omair Bin Yousuf, Shamyl Hussain, while Rohail Nazir will perform the wicket-keeping duties. The pace arsenal consists of Mushtaq Ahmed, who bagged 77 wickets in two recent most first-class competitions (QeA Trophy & President's Trophy), FATA pacer Shahid Aziz and Ubaid Shah.

Wrist spinner Faisal Akram will accompany left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz and off-spinning all-rounder Mubasir Khan to form the spin quartet along with experienced Sajid for the Shaheens across the red and white-ball fixtures.

The 18-member squad will take part in a training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi before departing for England on 16 July.

Squad:

Saud Shakeel (captain), Ali Zaryab, Azan Awais, Faisal Akram, Haider Ali, Maaz Sadaqat, Mehran Mumtaz, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Suleman, Mubasir Khan, Musa Khan, Mushtaq Ahmed, Omair Bin Yousuf, Rohail Nazir (wicket-keeper), Sajid Khan, Shahid Aziz, Shamyl Hussain and Ubaid Shah

Looks like a solid squad.

Seems like they have soured a bit on Qasim Akram. No Muhammad Hurraira either which is a bit surprising.
Nice to see Azan and Maaz there though.

I'm not sure why Ali Raza is not there. Is there any problem with him injury wise? Are they working on some biomechanics on him?

Three day matches

Azan Awais
Ali Zaryab
Omair Bin Yousuf
Saud Shakeel
Maaz Sadaqat
Rohail Nazir
Mubasir Khan
Sajid Khan
Musa Khan
Ubaid Shah
Mir Hamza

Hurriara should be in the 3 day game.
Qasim Akram and Arafat Minhas should have been in the t20 games.

Looking at the management team. Mohtashim Rasheed is a serial leech in PCB from the household of Haroon Rasheed, Umar Rasheed etc. The guy has been in PCB for over 2 decades. Not sure about Imran Farhat as a headcoach.

Squad looks fine... Most of the players I wanted to see are there, like azan, maaz etc. Ali raza is missing , maybe he is injured or whatever.

Useless squad. Saud, Mir and Sajid are Test regulars. Rohail, Musa and Haider will never make it with their fake ages.

If this the level of talent , Pakistan will still have a few more years of pain ahead of them

You make these same boring accusations of fake ages time and time again.

Please provide evidence for the fake ages accusation against these players, particularly Haider.

As far as being Test regulars, many A teams or second teams have a few experienced players in so that youngsters aren't just lambs to the slaughter. None of these players have played a test match in England, and with a series scheduled for next year it is a good opportunity to gain more experience.

Sometimes I think you guys complain just for the sake of it.

You can believe whatever you want. There is no doubt in my mind that they are all of fake ages, including Abdullah Shafique.

You can comeback and see how many of them fail to improve even a bit in the crucial 18-24 period when they really are a few years more than that.

The so called "experience" to some of the names I mentioned because they won't even make it to the Test squad next year.

I was going to asking the same question. He is the best young bowling prospect. He would have valuable experience by playing in England.Selection of Muss and Mir Hamza must be due to nepotism.Hamza has no pace.Musa has pace but is too short. Are there no young fast bowlers in Pakistan or PCB selectors ignore merit. What happened to Dhani?.Akif Javed eas bowling quick in Bangladesh. Why is he ignored?.

Since Dhani's tweet row, he hasn't been seen much. Didnt feature in psl either. Seems like an overemotional guy.

They don't improve not because of age but because of the cricketing culture in Pakistan
Again please provide proof that these players have age fudged. Lack of improvement isn't proof man there is so many other factors at play.

If raza is not injured and has been overlooked for likes of musa khan then I have to say it's a pathetic decision why mir hamza a 35 year old in a shaeen squad don't we have younger players to groom for future.

PPers are not in the business of providing proof for every accusation they make. That too for something like age fudging.

Pakistan Shaheens head coach Imran Farhat press conference ahead of England tour:

Q: Do coaches have a say in player selection, or are there personal preferences involved?

Imran Farhat: Coaches' duty is to prepare the players provided by the selection committee. As part of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), our role is to develop all players who come to us. Issues related to player selection or non-selection fall under the selection committee's responsibility.

Q: How has the development of current players been progressing?

Imran Farhat: The players we have are well-developed. For the past one and a half months, the entire NCA has been working diligently on their development.

Q: What measures are being taken to address players' physical fitness, especially when playing abroad?

Imran Farhat: We've had a dedicated month and a half to focus on physical fitness. We've conducted proper physical training sessions to meet all requirements. Our coaches and trainers are all doing their jobs, with players engaged in full-day activities from 5 AM to 5 PM, covering physical training, skill work, and individual needs. The NCA staff has been fully involved, and we haven't encountered any significant issues in the camp so far. We're continuously working to ensure players are fully prepared and to prevent future problems.

Q: What is the primary focus for the team during the upcoming tour?

Imran Farhat: Our primary purpose is player development. We have three One-Day matches and two Three-Day matches planned, so we've prepared both white-ball and red-ball teams. Regardless of which team plays, our focus will remain on player development.

Q: Why isn't Ali Raza part of the current team?

Imran Farhat: Ali Raza was with us but suffered a finger injury, possibly a dislocation, which prevented him from joining the tour. Injuries are beyond our control.

Q: Why does the team seem to have a strong focus on top-order batsmen, with many openers?

Imran Farhat: A strong start is crucial for any team's overall strength, so our focus is on developing specialist top-order batsmen. Since we'll be playing in two formats (Three-Day and One-Day matches), we've included more openers to cater to both. While we also have middle-order batsmen, we have four openers because they are considered the pillars of a team.

Imran Farhat played 9 Test matches in England at an average of 25. Hopefully he knows better about Cricket and Coaching now.

Well i managed to find some information which i am hoping isnt correct as would be a complete waste of a tour. What i have found they will be playing universities and minor counties which is rather silly to be honest if true. @Saj can you confirm

Another age fudger last photos he did he had a lot of white hair beginning to appear in his beard and that only happens when you start reaching 35
or 40 + when you see that level of greying in facial hair

TBH, there was not need to send Mir hamza etc on this tour... They should have tried young guys who did well in QEA recently.

Otherwsie they should have also send Khurram Shahzad.

I haven't seen his recent pics but greying of facial hair isn't really an accurate measure of age. My facial hair started greying in late 20s.

Weird selection that makes no sense. The guy is a solid FC bowler, what he isnt and will never be is a decent International player. That begs the question as to why he has been picked

Pakistan Shaheens held a couple of training sessions at the Tonbridge School Ground in Kent after arriving in England on 17 July.

Talking to PCB Digital ahead of the opening game on the tour, Saud Shakeel said:

“We are gradually getting used to the conditions. The time we have had for preparation so far has been quite productive. Although the weather did interrupt us with a bit of rain, but we utilised whatever time and facilities we had to the best of our ability.

“Getting used to English conditions always takes some time, but if you look at white-ball cricket in England, the pitches are generally good for batting and high-scoring matches are common. We have been practicing accordingly after taking all of this into account.

“Our opposition on the tour consist of players who are under consideration for England selection. Our situation is quite similar, we also have some exciting young talent in our squad. I believe it will be a competitive series for everyone to watch.

“The players have the opportunity to perform here and impress the selectors to get into the national side. Whenever you are part of such tours, a strong performance gives you a different kind of confidence. These tours are a good sign and these should continue in future as well.”

Can he not take Mir Hamza back with him.

Ali zaryab who can't get into domestic teams for list A is opening ahead of Maaz who has far better potential has been dropped to bat at 6 by mental midget saud. Ali zaryab struggles to clear the boundary in club cricket here in the UK. To add Ali zaryab making the Shaheen squad shows how poor we have become.

Haider Ali and Saud Shakeel Lead Pakistan Shaheens to DLS Victory in Series Opener

Half-centuries from Haider Ali and captain Saud Shakeel steered Pakistan Shaheens to a five-wicket win via the DLS method against the Professional County Club Select XI in the opening one-day match at Kent County Cricket Ground, Beckenham, on Tuesday evening.

The rain-affected encounter was reduced to 28 overs per side, with the Shaheens set a revised target of 204. The chase got off to a shaky start as openers Ali Zaryab (8 off 12, 1 four) and Azan Awais (8 off 11, 1 four) fell in the fourth over, followed shortly by Omair Bin Yousuf (2 off 4), leaving the visitors reeling at 32 for 3 in 5.1 overs.

At that crucial moment, skipper Saud Shakeel joined Haider Ali to steady the innings. The pair took control with a commanding 129-run stand for the fourth wicket. Haider played an aggressive knock, smashing 71 off 56 balls with five fours and three sixes.

Haider was dismissed in the 24th over with 43 runs still required. Maaz Sadaqat briefly supported the chase but departed after scoring 5 off 8, leaving 30 needed from the final 15 balls.

Shahid Aziz then stepped in and partnered with the captain to see the Shaheens over the line with just one ball to spare. Shahid contributed a vital 21* off 11 balls, striking one four and a six, while Saud remained unbeaten on 72 off 72 balls, anchoring the innings with four boundaries.

Tom Lawes was the pick of the bowlers for the County Select XI, claiming 2 for 38.

Earlier in the day, the hosts opted to bat first and were dismissed for 187 in 27.4 overs. Opener Will Smeed top-scored with a blistering 84 off 62 balls, featuring 10 fours and two sixes, while Hamza Shaikh added a steady 44 off 51, including six boundaries.

For the Shaheens, Maaz Sadaqat starred with the ball, returning figures of 3 for 28. Left-arm spinners Saud Shakeel and Faisal Akram chipped in with two wickets each.

The second match of the three-game series will take place at the same venue on Friday, with the first ball scheduled for 3:00 PM PKT.

Haider Ali with an unbeaten 55 off 40 balls to help chase down the target comfortably. Another good innings from him.

He is performing in that middle/lower order too. He makes more sense as an inclusion in ODI's than Hasan Nawaz IMO. I don't mind the look with Nawaz but he is quite raw. I'd like to see Haider get a look again ODI's & T20's with the way he is doing well in middle order and given the lack of good middle order options in Pakistan, he should be given a worthwhile look again.

Pakistan Shaheens have defeated the Professional County Club Select XI by 5 wickets!

Pakistan Shaheens Seal Series Win with Five-Wicket Victory Over County Select XI

Ubaid Shah’s four-wicket haul and half-centuries from Azan Awais and Haider Ali powered Pakistan Shaheens to a convincing five-wicket win over the Professional County Club Select XI in the third one-day match at the 1st Central County Ground, Hove, on Sunday afternoon. With this win, the Shaheens clinched the three-match series 2-1.

Chasing a target of 261, openers Shamyl Hussain and Azan Awais gave Shaheens a strong foundation with a 101-run stand. Shamyl was the first to fall, scoring 40 off 55 balls with four boundaries.

Azan then partnered with Mohammad Suleman for a 68-run second-wicket stand. Suleman played a quick cameo of 44 off 40 deliveries, hitting four fours and three sixes. His dismissal in the 31st over was followed shortly by the departure of captain Saud Shakeel, who made just 1 run, leaving Shaheens at 171/3 in 31.2 overs.

At a critical stage, Azan was joined by Haider Ali, the hero of the first one-day match. The duo added 33 runs before Azan was dismissed for a well-made 88 off 104 balls, which included 12 fours and a six.

Haider then took charge and ensured victory with an unbeaten 55 off 40 balls, smashing five fours and three sixes, as the Shaheens chased down the target with 37 balls to spare.

For the hosts, leg-spinner Harrison was the most effective bowler, taking 2 for 48 in his eight overs.

Earlier, Ubaid Shah shone with the ball, delivering a fiery spell of 4 for 41 in 9.4 overs as the County Select XI were bowled out for 260 in 46.4 overs. Ubaid removed key batters including opener Will Smeed (8), top-scorer Ollie Sykes (64 off 56, 2 fours, 5 sixes), and bowled out wicketkeeper Thomas (44 off 52).

Tom Lawes also contributed 49 for the hosts. Among other bowlers, Musa Khan picked up 2 for 39, while Mir Hamza and Saud Shakeel took one wicket each.

Having earlier won the first match via the DLS method, Pakistan Shaheens will now face the Professional County Club Select XI in a three-day fixture starting 29 July at the same venue. They will then play South Asian Cricket Academy & MCC Young Cricketers in the second three-day match from 3 to 5 August at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury.

Pakistan Shaheens set for red-ball challenge after one-day series win

Pakistan Shaheens are all set to take on Professional County Club Select XI in the first three-day game at the 1st Central County Ground, Hove from Tuesday, 29 July. The second three-day fixture of the tour is against South Asian Cricket Academy & MCC Young Cricketers and will be played at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury from 3 August.

Before the three-day games, Shaheens featured in a three one-day match series against Professional County Club Select XI, which they won 2-1. Saud Shakeel-led Shaheens outclassed the hosts by five wickets (DLS method) in the first one-day on 22 July, while they were beaten by seven wickets in the second match on 25 July.

Shaheens made a strong comeback in the third one-day, chasing down a target of 261 to register a five-wicket win on 27 July.

On the tour, left-handed opening batter Azan Awais topped the batting charts with 164 runs from three matches at an average of 54.67. The southpaw struck two half-centuries and hit 16 boundaries and two sixes.

Right-hander Haider Ali, who has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 35 T20Is, scored 141 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 128.18. He recorded two half-centuries – both contributing to the team's wins in the first and third one-dayers.

In the bowling department, 19-year-old right-arm fast bowler Ubaid Shah led the charts at the conclusion of the one-day series. He claimed six wickets, including four for 41 in the team’s win in the third one-day.

Talking to PCB Digital at the conclusion of third one-day match, opening batter Azan Awais said:

“The conditions here are challenging because the new ball tends to seam and swing. In England, as an opener, the conditions can be tough early on, so the priority is to survive. The coach gave me a clear plan, to stay in and anchor the innings and I followed that and we got a very good result.

“When the series began, I adapted quickly to the preparations we had done. In the last match, we lost early wickets, so I tried to take the innings as deep as possible. My aim was to bat through and I was able to carry that momentum and perform well.

“I have been playing with Shamyl Hussain since our U19 days and this was the second time we opened together. We gave the team a strong start with a 100-run partnership, which gave us a solid platform and benefited the team greatly.

“This was my first experience of playing in English conditions. They are undoubtedly tough for an opener, so survival early on is key. I will now look to carry this form into the three-day format and keep my focus on that. I will try to perform to the best of my ability for the team in that format as well.”

Ubaid Shah too spoke exclusively to PCB Digital at the end of the one-day series and said:

“I bowled with an attacking approach early on. Bowling alongside Mir Hamza, who is an experienced bowler and has played matches for Pakistan was really helpful. We discussed strategies together, including what lengths to bowl and how much effort to put in on this surface.

“The pitches in England suit fast bowlers quite well and I tried to utilise that to the best of my ability. It’s a different kind of cricket compared to what we see in Pakistan, where the pitches are quite different. Here, you have to adjust quickly and that experience has been invaluable.

“We have got three-day matches coming up and I am really looking forward to playing red-ball cricket in these conditions. It’s been great to be part of this tour to England and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

“For the three-day games, I will stick to the same simple plan given by the coaches and I hope to execute it well.”

Azan Awais anchors Shaheens to 185/4 on rain-hit Day 1 in Hove

Pakistan Shaheens, led by an unbeaten 94 from in-form opener Azan Awais, reached 185 for four on the first day of their three-day match against the Professional County Club Select XI at the 1st Central County Ground in Hove on Tuesday.

Only 55.2 overs were bowled on a rain-affected opening day, with just 14 deliveries possible in the final session before persistent showers forced an early close.

Azan, who was the top scorer in the recently concluded one-day series, continued his rich vein of form with a composed 159-ball knock, laced with 14 fours and a six. He was well-supported early on by fellow left-hander Shamyl Hussain, who struck 42 off 85 deliveries (8 fours, 1 six) as the pair shared a solid 78-run stand for the opening wicket — their second successive century partnership following a 101-run stand in the third ODI on Sunday at the same venue.

After Shamyl’s dismissal, wickets fell at regular intervals. Mohammad Suleman (7 off 25) was next to depart, while captain Saud Shakeel had to retire hurt on 15 (29 balls, 2 fours) after taking a blow to the hand from Nathan Gilchrist. Haider Ali, who had impressed in the one-dayers with two fifties, was dismissed for a duck. Just before tea, Mubasir Khan chipped in with 13 off 17 balls, including two boundaries, before falling as the fourth wicket.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rohail Nazir remained unbeaten at stumps, scoring 7* off 14 balls with one boundary.

Among the bowlers, Nathan Gilchrist stood out for the County XI, claiming 2 for 43 in a 15-over spell.

Three day matches are a bit stupid tbh. Almost always end up in a draw. Should have played four dayers. Same with tour warm up games. Why play a three day match?

Azan Awais sure seems like someone who likes to really dig in and score plenty of runs. Impressive FC record so far and continues to impress.

Really impressed with azan awais so far. I am actually curious about Haider ali in longer format... He has been in good form.
