Pakistan squad announced for the ODI series against Australia

Lahore - December 31, 2016: The National Selection Committee led by Chief Selector Mr. Inzamam ul Haq today finalized the 15-member ODI squad against Australia after consultations with the team Head Coach and the ODI captain. Pakistan Team will play five ODI matches in the tour from January 13, 2017 to January 26, 2017.

“The ODI team has been selected keeping in mind the conditions in Australia and the performances of players in the recent ODI series against West Indies and in the domestic cricket. The team is a fine blend of experience and youth, and the selectors have stick to the same combination of players selected against West Indies series earlier and believe that team will do well in the tour”, said chief selector Inzamam ul Haq.

The First ODIs will be played on Jan 13 at Brisbane Cricket Ground, Brisbane, Second ODI on Jan 15 at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Third ODI on Jan 19 at Western Australia Cricket Association Ground, Perth, Fourthd ODI on Jan 22 at Sydney Cricket Ground and Fifth ODI on Jan 26 at Adelaide Oval.

Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Irfan, Rahat Ali, Nawaz. As if this loss hadn't killed me enough.
 
To hell with this team. I am incapable of watching this team play with Irfan in the field.

Inzys been disappointing again How about giving some of the kids working hard in domestics a chance
 
Would have selected Ahmed Shehzad (current form), Junaid Khan and a fast bowling all rounder in place of Asad Shafiq, Irfan and Rahat. Rahat doesn't merit selection in any squad at the moment and Irfan is 35 year old for god sake. Asad Shafiq is not an odi player.

Glad that selectors didn't select Kamran Akmal, it would have been a step back. Also Yasir Shah has been correctly left out of the odi squad. Also selectors rightly didn't select Usman Salahuddin and Asif Zakir as odi is not the correct format for them. Fakhar Zaman missed the bus by being out of form in the current domestic one day tournament.

Inzi has been just as disappointing or even worse than the other selectors!

Had to come out of bed - my sleep is gone!!!

Rahat, Irfan, Nawaz, Wahab - not sure, if many will trade this shock with the horror show at MCG today? Kamran won't be selected I knew, as long as Azhar is Captain; but the bowling choices are atrocious - only format where Sohail can contribute - he is left out again.

Not a Junaid Khan fan but he deserved at least a recall for his recent form.
 
Good to see some consistency. Irfan is a good bowler who should have been playing these test matches too.

Can't afford two bowlers who will break down after the first innings. Sohail is enough for that.

He has also picked up pace. Bowling at about 140kph. Performing well in List A while also did well in BPL. Plus seems to have a good Yorker which our bowlers have forgotten how to bowl

Oh what!? Haven't been following the recent domestic tourneys but I recall someone saying he's got his pace up and a bit of swing. Think it was the BPL, then again T20 leagues shouldn't be trusted to judge one's form
 
When i woke up and seen the score i thought i was in a dream or something surely they couldnt have lost from there i thought??? Now after seeing this squad the nightmare gets worse!! Asad shafiq, Rahat Ali? What the hell inzy man!

Doesn't matter if we get Junaid, Sohail or which ever player posters are complaining didn't make the squad, we are going to get creamed. Most probably 5-0.

Hassan is def gonna be in the playing XI. It'll be either Nawaz or Irfan for the 5th bowler. Otherwise, this is prob the squad that'll play.
 
How on earth is irfan selected? I think inzi wants to see him vomit on the field and laugh. The guy cant even bowl two spells and isnt a youngster. What a short term thinking!!!!

And shafiq? The biggest Odi failure has been selected again. God save this team.

No lower order hitters. This team is doomed.

What is the problem of Azhar with kamran?
 
I didnt notice rahat the annihilator was selected too :facepalm
 
Rahat, Shafiq and Nawaz are poor selections.. With this squad we wont reach 300 in any of the five matches..
Malik too would fail miserably.
In all, 5-0 on the cards.
We would need some Sharjeel or Amir special to win one or two games..

I told you people Inzi is just have big mouth to talk about. Him and his people are not really looking for any talent to discover. They go to stadiums just for showing faces.

One good innings of Shafiq keep him in the test an ODI squad.

Inzi is too scare to do any experiment and will be even worse than even his predecessors.

This team deserve to loose by 5-0.
 
Mediocre squad, 5-0 is imminent. Scary thing is, we have no replacements in domestics, so these whitewashes are going to be way too common.
 
So all these waste of time and watch domestic crickets just to retain same squad that played against WI

So they picked Irfan - can't bat, can't bowl, can't field, horrible fitness. Oh but but he is 7ft.

Another flop ODI series. We will lose.
 
Fot Consistency in Selection I recommend an Award for Inzamam Uncle.


Consistency in selection cannot over rule performance. I would like to see performances of atleast 5 players in last 2-3 Odi series.
 
The real gem is Rahat Ali.

He has a 24 AVG in FC cricket yet can't perform in test cricket.

He has a 34 AVG in List A cricket and somehow he'll perform in ODI cricket?

Terrible selection. Rahat Ali has strong connections to be selected again and again despite being a total failure. Totally disappointing. Inzanam is worse chief selector.

LOL the last ODI Irfan played he couldn't complete more than 5 overs and you want to play test cricket.

He is good but awfully unfit.
 
Selection of fast bowlers has been a disappointment. Mohammed Abbas , Sohail Khan , Hassan Ali and Mohammed Amir should have been the bowlers for this series and instead we end up with Rahat, Wahab and Irfan.
Pathetic selection.
 
Irfan left the field after a few overs in England. Why have they picked this dud again?

How does he make it into the team when his fitness is non existent and can't field?
 
Idk wat do people expect... Altogether a very good selection.

I fully agree with inzi selection and back them to put a good show...

They did well against WI, so why should they be dropped.. Consistency in selection also play a key role in success...

There is no Junaid, Kamran, Hafeez, Sohail, which is good.

Irfan has been working in NCA on fitness after the ENGLISH ODI series.... been recalled rightly for bouncy AUS pitches after 6 months gap.

Rahat is very good and effective as a first change bowler with his swing bowling.. and no fitness issues unlike sohail

Rest all being retained after a good series win...Why need unnecessary changes, Im sure this team will do better than wat ppl expect to be 5-0 in Aus
 
On the one hand I understand the desire to have consistency in selection - it is the same squad that beat West Indies 3-0. However some of those players are not long-term investments in ODIs.

Shafiq is a proven failure in ODIs. Rahat and Wahab "0-110" Riaz are not economical enough in ODIs whilst Jolly Green Giant Irfan has fitness issues and is a liability as a fielder. I guess they looked at the 2015 WC performances where the pacers did have some good performances, most notably against South Africa, but we should move on from those three pacers.

However let's not kid ourselves. Whatever fantasy combination PPers would've picked is not in the same league as the reigning world champions Australia who brushed NZ aside 3-0 recently, whereas we failed to beat NZ in even one ODI !

Australia have explosive batsmen who can plunder 300+ scores at will and have world class strike bowlers in Starc and Hazlewood. Pakistan's one day game on the other hand is years behind.
 
apart from amir these is no good odi bowler in the team.

wahab riaz on his good day can take three wickets but mostly he goes for over 6 an over. The all rounders both are spin bowlers :facepalm: .
 
Based on BPL performance, Junaid deserve attention. Inzi did not select him, ok, please take him to NCA so that he is selected on next tours. Rahat Ali is hopeless to me.

Based on QeA, Kamran deserved to be selected. If Azhar or Sharjeel fail, there is no bench to take their place. Kamran in place of Rizwan/Asad could have solve this issue.

Since when did FC performance become the basis of selecting players for a ODI squad?
 
I know it's disappointing to see the same old but relax guys. Inzi is working on his plan. We'll lose the odi series 5-0 or 4-1 and azhar Ali will get the axe as the captain.
Also inzi is looking for consistency in selection. This is last chance for this group of players. I think after PSL all the QEA and national one day as well as PSL performers will be given a chance inshaAllah.

Agreed. But as far I know, Asad is selected based on his Test performance. That is not right either. When did he prove his worth in limited cricket? Plus your select two middle order bench player and no opener

Isn't PSL after this tour?

Lets see if young players can perform there or not. Once u perform there, u ll get noticed and ll b selected. I m happy, none of emerging player was selected for this tought tour for their debut, in case of failure, that would b set back of 2 years for them.

Like everyone wanted that Sialkot opener (nauman anwer?) in team but he failed big time when he needed to play against top players and now everyone forgot about him, no one even mention his name.

This means that our team still will be handicapped and Azhar will have no other option then to stick with seniors in the squad.
 
Awful squad, thought the England series would be a kick up the backside but Inzi doesn't learn. I'll be surprised if we win a single match

They are trying to give everyone a fair shot and bringing some semblance of permanence to the team. Better than dropping guys who haven't had the chance to play a single match.

Imagine a bowling attack of rummans raess,imran khan jnr ,anwar ali ,billawal bhatti and bilal asif with rahat as bowling coach he can't keep playing against kids all his life and he doesn't look interest anymore .
 
Should've had Sohail instead of Rahat. Other than that I don't see how they could've dropped anyone from the squad after the WI series.

Well guys like Rahat, Irfan, Wahab, Asad make life hard for Azhar and co. Inzi knew that yet they kept these guys.

I know its a tough series. But you need to give the captain/coach a balanced squad to give them the best chance to achieve something.
 
the batting looks very weak too :( off topic but will Pakistan be using the same jersey for this series the one that they used in 2016 odi and t20 cricket
 
only good thing No Kamran Akmal . they have stuck with Rizwan which is good would have been unfair to drop him

Explained in other post - KAkmal can play in 3 slots

1. Kick Azhar out & open with Sharjeel
2. Kick Umar out & play him at 6
3. Drop Mian, push Babar at 4, & play Kakmal/ Azhar at 2/3 or 3/2.

Now, Mickey won't drop Malik - not only because of batting but for his off spin against at least 4 lefti in top 7. Neither he'll drop Babar down - no one will after someone had scored 3 hundreds there in last 3 innings. So No. 3 gone.

Mickey won't drop Umar from no. 6 for other Akmal - because he is trying to groom a No. 6 for ODI. Besides, Arthur is not dumb not to know Kakmal's limit at 6.

So, basically only option left is to drop Sharjeel or Azhar.

Posters are fooled here for Azhar's double - but I saw his first boundary in 4th hour of the Test & his first straight drive on 2nd day; I am clear in my mind whom to play where & in which format. Mickey as well & unfortunately Inzi too.

i think u are on of the best poster here..for new comers like us and who does love the particular game for the sake of many things ....has emotional attachment with our cricket.but but what a fan like me can do when he see that what is being done by pcb .it hurts a fan like me being busy all the day just wanna enjoy good news about our cricket but it isn't there...and the last thing which hurts even more when a man like me knows that what is being done is not right if it is inzi 'misbah or mr. oldi ...
