So Imran Khan has finally been elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The PTI will officially form the government.

This thread will be used to discuss the appointed ministers and the overall performance of the PTI over their government tenure.

I don’t have any expectations because it is a weak government. They were on their way to forming a very strong federal government, but once the military establishment realized that they were forming a majority, the system “crashed” and their seats reduced from 124 to 11

As a result, they have had to buy the loyalties independents who can blackmail them in the future.

If they oppose any laws and bills that PTI passes in the future, PTI will be handicapped.

Imran Khan and his supporters are too naive to realize this now, but in due time, everything will unfold.

Politics is not a game of cricket and their arrogance and self-righteous attitude will backfire.

I think our military has some amazing, state of the art technology which they use to extract people’s brain cells rendering smart people stupid.

Of course some were stupid to begin with.

I do have similar doubts but I don't see military giving PPP seats. PPP is the probably the most anti military party and with them Pti can pass laws that military might not like. A seasoned politician could probably play ppp and pmln against each other to get even constitutional amendments passed so I don't think Pti is in that bad a position though it will be tough.

The two interrelated things that need improvement for Pakistan are the economy and security.

The metric for improvements in the economy is the growth of modern industries, which itself can be judged by the composition of exports.

Screen Shot 2018-08-18 at 8.10.28 AM.jpg

While the situation of India is by no means ideal, it does share many similar characteristics with Pakistan like geography, ethnicity etc. So India is a good comparison.

Screen Shot 2018-08-18 at 8.11.09 AM.jpg

If the composition of Pakistan's exports looks more like India's over time, then it means its economy is developing. If modern industries don't develop, then Pakistan will keep going back to the IMF or China for bailouts.

If PTI's government is able to curb the Army, then the economy will develop. Early signs are that it won't, instead it will chase slogans like "return looted wealth from abroad", "NS is a thief and the cause of our problems" etc.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this guy is back with same and repeated narrative that he has heard on Indian media.

You have no idea what are you speaking of

And your inclination to put blame on Pakistan's Army for everything, well, lol

PTI was handicapped in KPK as well in its first term but yet managed to deliver on most of their promises.

5 years down the line and they have a 2/3 majority! If they can mimic the same at national level I have no doubt come 2023 - PTI will win with a 2/3 majority.

The first priority must be to stabilise the dire economy. With improving security and cleaner government - it will be easier to attract foreign investment and reduce youth unemployment.

Expanding the tax base is another priority - Pakistan has a low tax revenue to GDP ratio by international standards.

Reforming declining state institutions like PIA and Railways and introducing merit will also be a positive step.

The truth does not change from one day to the next.

Truth is that you have no clue about Pakistan, just because you copied and pasted something off an internet and add "Army", it does not make it a fact.

And what you have stated with your elementary copied and paste job is a well know fact, obviously productivity and exports has to increase for Economy to do better, it is as elementary concept as learning ABCD

Yeah truth :rp. I think you were the same guy who was saying before elections that PML N will sweep from Punjab. Some 'truth' that was.

There was either more rigging than I expected, or I credited the Punjabi voter with more intelligence than justifiable.

There was either more rigging than I expected, or I credited the Punjabi voter with more intelligence than justifiable.

Lame excuses. Just because your favorite did not get elected does not mean that you start questioning someone's intelligence. Instead you should admit that you were wrong. Even PMLN leadership were not making such tall claims before election and were convinced that it will be a tough fight in Punjab.

Reading a few articles through your biased lenses cannot make you an expert on any topic. Anyways you can carry on with your Times Now-esque propaganda.

Education and Health should be PTI's top priorities for this tenure.

That is not to say they shouldn't focus on other sectors.

PPP and PMLN were pathetic in last 30 years and the quality of life for common man went downwards so the benchmark for PTI is not high. Even if they do little work that improves the life of common man they will win next elections.

I will give them 1 year before making strong opinions. Ab chance mila hai to we should give them time and should not make a pahaar over minute things. Lets see how things goes.

I think Mamoon will like number 2. A number of times you claimed that the PTI will do exactly the same as the Nooras and PPP. This alone will save around 30 crore each year.

Impressive, and this is just the beginning!

Feel like they have already done more work then the previous 10 years of government.

Great list.If PTI achieves even half of what they aim,I’ll vote for them next time too.

They seem to have gone off to a decent start.

Lets see if they continue in the same manner.

Helpline ‘1099’, website for human rights to be revived soon: Mazari

Minister for Human Rights, Shireen Mazari says helpline “1099”, and a website for human rights, would be revived in a couple of days.

Talking to a private news channel, she said a briefing would be given in next cabinet meeting about laws regarding children rights.

The Minister said government will provide all possible help to resolve problems being faced by Pakistani prisoners languishing in foreign jails.

She said all stakeholders would be taken into confidence regarding missing persons cases.

About violence against women and children, she said legal actions are needed to be taken to curb the menace.

Commenting on violations committed by Indian forces in Occupied Kashmir, she stressed the need to look into the matters of human right violations against Kashmiri people.

Can't wait to see this kicking off. It won't get as much coverage as the other things, but climate change is probably the most serious issue that Pakistan needs to fight against.

It's really great to see PTI focusing on global warming issues. I hope with time we will move on to clean energy as well.

It is commendable that PTI is wasting no time. If this was Nawaz's government they would still be celebrating. I have seen more discussion on core issues in the first 1 month of PTI than the entire 5-10 years of "democracy".

IK auctioning off the bullet proof cars but not the helicopter that costs as much as all of the cars combined. Austerity.

He is just auctioning the unnecessary cars - not every government owned car. Helicopter is needed in government you can't equate these two things.

You voted for PTI, kyu vote diya tha pir?

Seems like you, during the time of the election, also put yourself in that same washing machine as Amir Liaqat was in. Insaaf powder didn't work on both you.

I guess time to throw away the dirty laundry.

All media regulatory authorities to be merged into one top body: information minister

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday announced that after reviewing the role of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP), it has been decided that all regulatory authorities will be merged into one top body — Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority.

While speaking to the media, Chaudhry said that in coordination with "our media friends", the government has decided to do away with Pemra and PCP, and constitute a new body "which will not only look after electronic media but also print and cyber media [social media]".

"There should be one regulatory authority to look at all mediums, and the same laws and censors should apply across the board," he added.

According to Chaudhry, this proposal would also save the government's resources. "All authorities will be merged into one body of professionals, which will also include media representatives."

He then referred to the Supreme Court's remarks during a case today regarding media having its own code of ethics, saying that would also be taken into consideration.

"In the coming days, you will see major changes in the information ministry, regulatory bodies, and Pakistan Television (PTV)."

Last week, the information minister announced that the PTI-led government had lifted political censorship on state-run news organisations.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the minister had said that both PTV and Radio Pakistan would now enjoy complete editorial independence over the content they produce.

The minister had said that far-reaching changes were being introduced in the information ministry, expressing confidence that the changes would be visible within the next three months.

ECC orders power sector audit, warns electricity defaulters of legal repercussions

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet on Monday decided to conduct a financial audit of the entire power sector as part of a series of planned measures to cut down its losses, sources within the ECC said.

During a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Asad Umar, the ECC decided that it would introduce prepaid metres and bills for electricity defaulters.

The committee, according to sources, agreed that whosoever — including the PM house — won't clear their electricity bill would face disconnections, while their metres would be uninstalled within three months.

Furthermore, the ECC, during today's meeting, decided to create a separate committee for the privatization of K-Electric.

The committee also expressed grave concerns regarding the Rs480 billion circular debt payments, and vowed to identify and take legal action against those responsible for financial misconduct in this regard.

The creation of a pension plan for railway employees and a mechanism to fulfill fertilizer requirement during Rabi season were also discussed.

The first meeting of the newly reconstituted ECC had taken place last week. While no conclusive decisions were taken, the meeting appeared to be setting the stage for some serious business — to make fertilizer companies return Rs10 billion windfalls to the economy and to address the root cause of power sector circular debt.

The government is currently analyzing the economic, legislative situation at the moment.

We will see policy formation during next month or so. The policy implementation will start after another 2 months imo.

So, we should actually start analyzing after a month or so.

Does this count? Idk.

Does PTI have technology ministry or some dedicated minister whose job is to look after Paks tech community? Alot of Pakistani's in silicon valley can help bridge the gap and bring much needed tech investment to Pakistan. Pakistan has immense potential to excel in engineering and tech if it gets the right people to lobby.

Textile and clothing exports jump 7.33pc

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s textile and clothing products exports revived in August from a year ago, according to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday.

However, total exports proceeds from the textile and clothing sector jumped 7.33 per cent to $1.25 billion in August from $1.17bn in the same month last year.

However, the country’s total exports posted a growth of 3.72pc to $2.26bn during the first two months (July-August) of 2018-19 from $2.17bn over the corresponding months last year.

The revival in exports was partially attributable to cash subsidy offered under prime minister’s exports enhancement package. Furthermore, in the mini-budget, government has reduced duties on raw materials to boost exports.

Data for the value-added textile sector showed a positive growth as exports of ready-made garments went up 8.85pc in value and increased by 26.52pc in quantity.

On the other hand, exports of knitwear edged up 14.04pc in value and 29.4pc in quantity during August. Moreover, bed wear exports went up 7.74pc in value.

Towel exports posted a 12.14pc growth in August while that of cotton cloth increased by 7.14pc in value during the period under review.

Among primary commodities, cotton yarn exports witnessed a 5.34pc increase while export of yarn other than cotton recorded a 16.93pc decline.

Exports of made-up articles, excluding towels, went up by 8.36pc, those of art, silk and synthetic textile exports up by 5.31pc and tents, canvas and tarpaulin went up by 3.71pc while proceeds from raw cotton dipped by 68.98pc during the period under review.

The total export proceeds registered a growth of 5.05pc to $3.66bn in July-Aug from $3.48bn over the corresponding period of last year of which non-textile exports were up by 6.8pc to $1.4bn.

PBS data showed a mammoth rise of 143pc in exports of petroleum products, which along with petroleum crude and naphtha, led the increase in overall sector sales.

However, carpets and rugs exports during July-Aug declined by 4.25pc against same period last year. Foreign sales of sports goods went down by 9.97pc, with football exports dropping by 1.23pc as well. Tanned leather exports also shrank by 21.42pc in the period first two months of current fiscal year.

Leather products’ exports decreased by 3.37pc and footwear exports rose by 10.9pc in July-Aug 2018 from a year ago.

According to PBS data, exports of surgical goods and medical instruments also declined by 4.71pc, with exports in engineering goods sector decreasing by 26.51pc during the first two months.

You wanted to see education propsper and you are cutting the budget of the higher education. Absolute joke.

As many as 45 projects of the Higher Education Commission have been dropped from the PSDP, bringing the total number of schemes to 133.

The HEC budget was also cut by 13.5%, or Rs4.9 billion, to Rs31 billion. Finance Minister Asad Umar had assured former planning minister Ahsan Iqbal on the floor of the National Assembly that his government would not cut the HEC projects.

Dix we know which schemes are being cut?
Don't know but
Budget cut is a disaster

If a country is to progess then HEC needs to excel. China is spending $60 billion for its children to study science in overseas. Already the budget is too low and you are cutting it even more.

This is a party with a track record of investing in education and people, I think we need to have a deeper look at what it is that's being cut and why it's being cut. It's unlikely it's being cut so a helicopter can be on stand by to get dear leader some nihari.

Most of the cuts are to projects that have not been properly assessed or the budgets have not been properly thought through. In essence the PMLN was spending money where there wasnt any money. Literally throwing money without correct business cases or feasability studies. Just look at the metro buses. Granted there are benefits but what about the continuing costs? Did they do a proper cost benefit analysis? An Impact assessment?

This government is reviewing everything. Every institution is a mess. The budgets are all over the place.

I'm sure most of the projects dropped include shiny new office blocks for deans and rectors or fancy cars etc..... projects that hardly improve higher education

So add projects that are useful enough for the future. Already we have quite low percentage for higher education and there are cuts in the budget. You are defending for the sake of it just like Patwaris used to defend every wrong move of N league.

For your knowledge IK met Dr. Atta ur Rehman in the first few weeks of his government and I'm sure effective policies and projects are in the works.

 1. Replace useless project with useful projects.
 2. Already low percentage for higher education so there is no need to cut the budget

DAP price in PML N tenure was around 2600 now it’s 3500. (Tabdeeli)

Urea fertiliser prices have increased many folds aswell.

We are an Agricultural country and this will seriously affect Farmers.

Gas price hike by PTI gov, Stock exchange collapse post Iqama Panama rubbish judgement and rupee devaluation post political instability caused by SC rubbish decision are factors behind this.

Food items have become expensive aswell. Inflation.

Compare and contrast this to Donald Trump: "The climate will change back."

This bit didn't get highlighted around here. ADB will be providing development loans over the next 3 years worth 7.1 billion USD.

The great thing here is that ADB doesn't approve a loan unless the intended project has a certain rate of return so that the project or scheme will essentially pay for itself over time. And they usually keep an eye on the project to make sure they get back their investment. They also ensure transparency and provide most information on their website.

IK will set up a special council for the formation of South Punjab

KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan has set up a special executive council to pave way for the formation of South Punjab province, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Qureshi said that the creation of a new province would be the realization of his long standing commitment for the people of South Punjab.

He said that this would eliminate decades of deprivation and lead to more equitable distribution of resources and a stronger more prosperous federation.

“A special executive council for the formation of South Punjab province has been created by the Prime Minister as promised. For far too long South Punjab has been ignored and denied it's rights,” the foreign minister tweeted.

“The creation of this province will be the realization of my long standing commitment for the people of South Punjab, & will eliminate decades of deprivation and lead to more equitable distribution of resources and a stronger more prosperous federation,” he added.

Worst govt. ever.

Total disaster.

What is the law for Conflict of Interest ?

What are the old Statements of Selected Planted Prime Minister about Conflict of Interest and PML N PPP Politicians ?

This Establishment's stooge ex Musharaff's Cabinet member Abdur Razzaq Daud was crying since last 3 years about CPEC because his company Descon did not get any project.

When he came into power he started campaign against CPEC. Chinese gave him and planted gov a well deserved Shut Up Call.

Now he is Federal government and Mohmand Dam project has worth 300 plus billion rupees has been given to Descon. Where is Conflict of Interest now ?

When former governor Sindh Zubair Omar opened up his mouth on this see how he was warned yesterday and asked to shut up or he will be made history like late Abidi Shaheed.

Now wait n see Altafists and Taliban's being blamed for yesterday's events.

Ghulam Sarwar whose main business and source of Income is CNG Pumps has been made Minister of Petroleum. Where is the Conflict of Interest now ?

Mamoon ex voter & supporter of PTI was so right about Imran Khan Niazi and PTI.

50 billion rupees lost in Stock Exchange only and these stooges and their cult followers are happy at getting Bheek of 5 to 15 billion dollars from Saudi Arabia, UAE and China.

This SuperStar Cricketer used to say that No matter what the conditions demand we will eat grass but won't take Loans and those Ghulaami statements.

Record 2.4 trillion rupees borrowed in just 5 months by PTI. Alhamdoulillah. IK is so handsome MashaAllah. Ghabrana naheen Pakistanio.

From 3.3 GDP reached 5.8 from 2013 - 2018 and now what is projected GDP ? 4 ?

Rupee was devalued 30 % by this planted government. Why ? To boost exports ?

Alhamdoulillah Exports remain at same levels for the said quarter as were in 2017.

And stable inflation of PML N times ? Where is inflation now ?

Hamza_ These cult followers will soon disappear like Jheel waala doctor.

BRT disaster is a result of PTI’s arrogance. For years, they mocked PMLN government for focusing on public transport, even though they did a satisfactory job on that front.

Such projects are no child’s play. It requires a lot of experience and meticulous planning because they are so many variables that you cannot foresee.

PTI were focused on the showbaazi. Pervez Khattak was on record claiming that they will show PMLN how it is done by completing the project at minimum possible cost within the designated time.

However, within a few months they got a massive reality check. Not only has the deadline been extended by years, they have also wasted millions of rupees.

When you have bad intentions, you will never succeed. PTI’s objective was not to improve the lives of the citizens of Peshawar but to engage in political point scoring, and that is why it has fallen flat on their face.

PTI have the opportunity to deliver, but the goal should be to look forward and improve the country rather than look behind and criticize the previous governments.

That is why people were very impressed with Imran’s victory address. He showed a lot of class and did not utter a single word against PMLN and PPP. He was only focused on what needs to be done in the coming years.

Unfortunately, that was for show only. He has surrounded himself with bazaari politicians with loud mouths that have no class and decency, such as Fawad Chaudry and Fayyaz Chohan, who are good for nothing but running their mouths and engaging in cheap point scoring.

Unless PTI’s reorients its goals and objectives and starts to look forward, it will not deliver. Mark my words.
