Pakistan v Australia - Crowd Watch

No.

You look at why a city when I was growing up in it used to have full houses is not able to get people in for love/money.

You spend time understanding the issue then make arrangements to bring people back.

What arrangements are required?

I agree with the suggestion actually. In India, people in big cities were exhausted with IPL etc and test cricket had poor crowd. BCCI included 2nd tier cities for test cricket it helped a lot.

Sure, research could be done, but IF that fails to bring crowds after the implementation of the solution to overcome causes, than you have to shift the matches away.

The onus is on the fans of the city.

Same conditions in lahore during the psl and the crowds were full to the allowed capacity. Even in psl nsk was failing to get fans.

The lack of security checks to get in was pathetic. I parked my car in front of the stadium and was on my seat in less than 5 minutes

Really?! I am finding that hard to believe as an ex-karachite.

The lack of security checks to get in was pathetic. I parked my car in front of the stadium and was on my seat in less than 5 minutes during which I showed my tickets and went through a flimsy metal detector.

It was so lax my friends smuggled in all sorts of contraband. Ammunition wouldn't have been too hard to bring in either.

My stand was quite full but all the rest were less than half occupied. It was very hot and the cricket was putting people to sleep when the spinners were on.

There were quite a few Aussies in different groups most of whom reside in the city. The crowd did there best but for long periods the game was too dead and most people only watched 1-2 sessions at the start or end of the day.
What!? I was reading there was like 11 checkpoints to get in. This is a concern. What was it like in PSL?

Where were the fans in cricket-mad Karachi or do they only follow PSL?

PSL was much more strict with lots of security checks inside the stadium.

Today no one asked me for my ID or vaccine certification even once. Just checked my ticket outside the stadium and before entering the stand. Was surprised after hearing about all the hassle in Pindi.

That's weird. For other people who watched the game I'm reading that they had a lot of security checkpoints to go through. So not sure what's going on.

It's never been this lax but I guess this is what happens over time when security is in the hands of Sindh Police and not the Rangers.

It just caught me by surprise because PSL was a lot more strict last month.

For the Karachi game?

Everyone I know had a similar experience to mine maybe other gates and stands were stricter but I doubt that.

I went to Stadium today arrived at 11 am and left before tea. Poor conditions seats were dirty and viewing experience was the worst. Only those will enjoy who will have a luxury of VIP stands.

The other guy above said that there was not many security checkpoints. What about you, did you have to go through a lot of security? Just curious

Yes security was not as strict as I expected. Is Sindh Govt doing it deliberately? I hope not because any small incident outside stadium might create problems.

Well no one checked me outside the stadium but there were security checks inside the stadiums. They didn't check Vaccination Card but CNIC yes. There were Data entry points where they scan your CNIC and hands bags were being checked as well.

Don't think Sindh govt has capacity to do anything deliberately they're just grossly incompetent.

I do think there was public pressure to keep roads till the stadium open which use to be closed off for matches till last year.

Hmm, hopefully it's beefed up from the next day on. PCB needs to clamp down on this asap.

I would not go and watch this kind of test cricket being played , thanks to Babar-Saqlain combo. What to watch , dead wickets and negative bowling ??

There should be a movement on social media to boycott this test series . PCB has no regard for test cricket and the followers of the game.

Are the crutors not competent enough to make better pitches or do the management want these pitches.

a bit of both im guessing, lets not forget the curators have had a decade of preparing only domestic pitches and by and large got away with a lot of rubbish surfaces, but then rambo made a video saying he wanted slow tracks too.

even before the shift to the uae pakistan made some horrendously flat pitches, but back then pak wasnt the only country.

So far I have not watched on TV one complete over from the past 2 days of this sham! If I were to be in karachi, I would certainly stay away from the trouble of going over to the venue with all the hassles in my way.

7 days of cricket so far in this series and not a single one of those days can be classed as value for money for a fan.

But even domestic pitches are proberly better than the ones we have seen.its fine having slow tracks but they must spin and we have seen any spin at all.

Babar on Karachi crowd:

Where was the Lahore crowd, did they all forget that a test match against Australia was being played? Or did they all sleep the whole day also?

13 years since the last Test match in Lahore yet the stadium wasn't full.

That's a poor effort from the fans.

Really disappointing from Lohare fans I expected more

It's not lahore le crowd's fault... When you have produced two of the most boring test matches on roads in last two weeks, what else you expect from crowd??? Had Pakistan won both or even 1 test, it would have been a full house for sure... Its PCB who is at fault who are so timid in their approach as usual...

I would have stil gone taking in consideration the tickets are proberly cheap.

No way people are going to show up for a test match on a week day. To fairly judge Lahore's crowd, this test should have had at least one day of the weekend.

ODIs and the T20 would be packed.

This is why Pindi is the best crowd by far. Pindi should always get a test from now on. Great atmosphere and when they let the pitch be how it's supposed to be, great cricket too.

Pindi, Multan have the best crowds, Karachi is awful, but because of this "Fortress Karachi" nonsense, Karachi will always get a test match per series.

They should try to get the Arbab Niaz stadium-ready as soon as possible, however, it has safety concerns.

It does play a big role. As much as possible Tests in Oz are placed in the school holiday period (when most workers can take some leave too) over xmas/new year period and the others play over a fri/sat /sun to give people a chance to attend.

If it's not a holiday then people will rather take the one day off to attend an ODI I think- at least you get to see your favourite batters & bowlers in action guaranteed on the same day.

Love it about the Aussies that they are always looking for an opportunity to score runs. Give them even a marginally bad ball and they'll punish you.

Really makes me jealous as a Pak fan as our batters are always in survival mode and scoring runs is never top of mind.

I really wish they would removed barbed wires from stadiums in Pakistan! Looks so 1920s

I’m flying to Lahore from NY in a few days InSha’Allah
Looking forward to watching the last ODI and the T20 match.

Can anyone help me with seating? I’m not sure which seats are good and which aren’t. I was looking at the Imran Khan section but I’m not completely sure. Help me out guys!

The stadium looks quite empty, I thought with the ODI’s would be a sell out. Are we expecting more people in?

Looks like public only wants to watch T20s. May be the test performance killed the mood. I don't know. But this should have been a full house.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned the fans from bringing Vuvuzela horns in the stadium ahead of the second ODI between Pakistan and Australia, here on Thursday.

The PCB has installed a number of banners under the premises of Gaddafi Stadium to prohibit the fans from bringing the vuvuzela horns.

“Horns are not allowed in the stadium,” the statement on the banners read.

According to the details, the cricket board has decided to prohibit the use of horns in response to complaints from match officials and players who claim that the noise of the horns prevents them from concentrating on the game.

It is pertinent to mention here that the second ODI between Pakistan and Australia will be played today here at the Gaddafi Stadium. The touring side lead the three-match series 1-0.

Day time temperature of 36C with no shade. Tough for spectators let alone players. It's also the start of Ramadan although not sure if they are observing today in Pakistan.

Now this is a decision that deserves to be applauded. I think Pakistan and Mexico might be among the few countries where this nonsense is still allowed.

Nice to see the young fan in the crowd today "James" holding up the sign saying he's flown in all the way from Ireland to watch Babar Azam bat

Covered areas needs to be a priority at these stadia.

Work to do.

Lahore is just amazing! All around throughout the series except in Karachi ( it wasnt that off though) the crowd was stellar. Glad to see the end of those annoying horns as well.

Gadaffi stadium has a magical environment under lights when the house is full. Great stuff.
