Slowly building up the crowd on Day 1 of the series

and we have some Aussie support as well.

Haysman on TV saying game is sold out for all 5 days!

For a big series on day one and to give you that edge on home support little bit disappointed with the morning turnout. Expected half of the stadium to be full at least.

Aussies were pumping themselves up for a historic series that means a lot to Pakistani people.

And here we are...no one shows up.

It will build up after Jum'a for sure, particularly if Pakistan is doing well...but it is quite funny at the moment.

Pakistanis love to going and watching test matches is not the same as Aus/Eng/NZ/Ind or even SA.

Many times rumours of being sold out are spread only to see empty stands later. Could be the case here too.

Really sparce as expected with Aussies in crowd.. hopefully weekend sees better attendance

Has been gradually building. I expect it will fill up after Friday prayers.

Would have been nice to see it full from the first ball but i guess people fancy a bit of a lie in too if they've taken a day off.

Its a sold out crowd, people are gonna come back the second and third session.

The facilities arnt suitable for a full day visit

If the facilities aren't suitable, why is there an international match even taking place there.

Then why stadiums in England always full ? Are Pakistanis more busy and productive than English People ? Wondering .

Makes me wonder if all these posts on this forum about tests are the best, test is real cricket etc., etc. is just hot air. Of course you leave out Eng and Aus.

Massive crowd of people stuck outside of the stadium waiting for entry. Expecting it to be really crowded post lunch.

Disappointed. Expected far more people to turn up in what is a historical match.

Lets be real, who has the time to attend 5 days in stadium these days?
exactly, i will be in Pakistan and have a perfect opportunity to easily make it for the odi series, and i am giving it a skip as odi is too long plus covid etc (no player access)...

English people showing up for test cricket as mostly old retired folks. Many cricket fans in England only watch cricket when Ashes is going on so it always gets good crowd. In Ind vs Eng/Aus tests, the majority of crowd showing up is desi junta. Local English/Aus people don't really care watching Ind/Pak. I personally believe that England has perfect conditions for captivating test cricket to be played between two competitive teams. I really enjoyed the Ind-Eng test series last year. The atmosphere in the stadium and the quality of cricket from both teams was captivating to watch.

It’s a very decent crowd for a Pak Test match.

Really encouraging actually.

Vuvuzelas are completely ruining the viewing experience. TV producers are incompetent otherwise they would have complained to the PCB about this.

There are queues outside the stadium. People have been queuing for over 4 hours. They only are letting 3/4 people through at a time causing the long delays for people wanting to come in. They should have more posts so more people could in quicker

I guess jumma and the tight security means its going to take a bit of time before people actually get in

Its building up nicely

They need to ban them for test matches as its an entire day of play. I had to mute the tv

It’s sold out crowd but capacity is 50% capped

Good news for cricket fans across Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore as the National Command and Control Center (NCOC) has allowed 100 per cent capacity for the upcoming historic Pakistan-Australia series, starting from March 4.

In a letter sent to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and relevant authorities of Sindh and Punjab, NCOC stated that the cricket board is allowed to host full capacity crowd while adhering to the following protocols.

Children of 12 years of age and above (fully vaccinated) are allowed to attend the matches/event. However, children below 12 years of age are also allowed without vaccination.

Covid-19 vaccination is a must for the spectators while all other SOPs must be followed. Wearing masks in stadiums and maintaining social distance, enforcing NCOC guidelines will be the responsibility of PCBs and rational bodies.

It must be noted that Australia will play three Tests, three ODIs and a T20I against Pakistan. Rawalpindi will host the Test series opener and white-ball leg while Karachi and Lahore will host the second and third Test respectively.

Love thr pictures of the foreigners in the crowd.... Beautiful

For some strange reason, inspite of a large crowd, they weren't really loud. If someone like Afridi was batting or Akhtar was bowling they would be really loud

Really loved the faces of Australians being there.

I think PCB should distribute free tickets to Australian and other diplomats from cricketing nation. It will help our cause if we are able to shown foreign faces in the crowd.

Good stuff Pindi, never disappoints! Cant wait for sunday now

Don't worry, We have a new Afridi to get the crowd roaring again.

People living overseas dont understand this but the security process is extremely thorough and therefore, it is also foolproof. However, this also means that the crowd slowly builds up. It took me 3 hours to get into the stadium. Under normal security measures, it wouldve been fully packed from ball 1.

Lol what even? This is just simply complaining for the sake of it. Were you even in the crowd? It was loud.

Very good crowd during later part of the play today. Hopefully it turns into an exciting contest moving forward.

I was there at the stadium today. Security arrangements were excellent this time as compared to the PSL. It took me only 10-15min walk to get inside. But those who arrived a little late had to wait in queues for hours due to incompetency of bookme team. Their staff went missing, only 3-4 guys were doing all the verifications.
Hot sunshine & lack of food forced many fans to leave within couple hours of their arrival, that's why you did not see full house through the day. There is no roof in the stadium + only carbonated drinks & ice creams were available (water bottles remained short throughout as well) & nothing else to eat where I was sitting (and that was a VIP enclosure).
Pindi/Isloo is crazy about cricket matches in the city. I am sure they would have bought all tickets even if the capacity was 50,000+. PCB will have to sort out the issues, otherwise, I am afraid pindi/isloo might also become lahore/karachi in terms of match attendance.

Decent crowd in on the last session hopefully they come in early for the first session.

Has this been copied from the Brit Pak crowd at English grounds?

I don't mind it in LOI games but for a test match that I leave on in the background on the tv while I'm working is very annoying. I had to mute the volume.

great to see pindi crowd out in force, hopefully they keep it up over the weekend.

Day 2 crowd - Haysman saying people queuing outside.

Brilliant crowd yet again today. I really appreciate the passion because i myself cannot bring myself to watch test cricket in a stadium Hats off!

Tickets for 2nd and 3rd Tests on sale now. Hopefully we get good crowds in Karachi and Lahore too (along with a better pitch and game of cricket)

I wouldn't bet my money on it in Karachi. Eventhough its Pakistan's fortress and most prolific venue.

Hope I am wrong.

Ever since cricket has resumed in Pakistan, Rawalpindi has always boasted great crowds. Whether its for PSL matches or test matches. And I am certain that all 3 ODIs will be sell-outs aswell.

Karachiites don't even show up for T20s so agreed, unlikely we will see a big crowd but it is Australia's first tour in 24 years, so maybe. Hopefully PCB will also be giving tickets away to schools etc so at the very least we should get some children and families in.

For some inexplicable reason they aren't releasing all the tickets in one go - so it seems only about 50% of the tickets for the Karachi test have been released. Looks like about 50% of the released tickets have been sold for days 1 and 2 - so as things stand about 25% of capacity.

I think they sell 50% tickets online & 50% on M&P franchises.

I am at the stadium. Crowd is slowly but surely building up. Although because two stands on one side of the pitch are closed for public, so the stadium might appear empty on TV.

To be honest, Karachi stadium wasn't full even for T20 matches so i don't have any hopes for test. I think PCB should take inspiration from India and host test matches in small cities. It will help with crowd.

Pretty pathetic turnout. But then again I am not surprised because its Karachi.

as always, karachites disappoint us, better to shift matches away from them

Am surprised with crowd turnout. you have a champ team and another top side touring after long time, its weekend and karachi is your big metro city. does covid have anything to do with it?I thot its India who has a bit of cricket overdoes especially with tests.

I used to live karachi and last time i travelled to national stadium was probably 20 years ago. It was an absolute pain & torcher entering the stadium back then. I cant imagine how things would be now for fans.

Yes but its not any easier for fans in other cities either. Still Pindi always has amazing turnouts. Even Lahore has better turnouts than Karachi. And thing is, fans have filled NSK for certain PSL matches. But on most cases the crowd turnouts have been pathetic. Not just for tests but limited-overs games and PSL matches too...

The pitch is terrible. You need result oriented pitches to attract crowds.

The lack of security checks to get in was pathetic. I parked my car in front of the stadium and was on my seat in less than 5 minutes during which I showed my tickets and went through a flimsy metal detector.

It was so lax my friends smuggled in all sorts of contraband. Ammunition wouldn't have been too hard to bring in either.

My stand was quite full but all the rest were less than half occupied. It was very hot and the cricket was putting people to sleep when the spinners were on.

There were quite a few Aussies in different groups most of whom reside in the city. The crowd did there best but for long periods the game was too dead and most people only watched 1-2 sessions at the start or end of the day.

So you will shift game from Pakistan's biggest city.

Instead of understanding why this is happening and taking remedial action, you are doing what is normally done in Pakistan to the people of Karachi. Well done.

The fact that the biggest city cant even get fans in the stadium is a big shame.

This is not discrimination against karachi. In franchise sports, if the home stadium cant bring fans, franchise owners end up shifting the franchise to some other city. The reason for that is always due to a less population amd smaller fan base.

If karachi cant fill up the stadium, than move the matches away from NSK. Lahore, Multan and pindi are atleast filling up the grounds.

Even if remedial action is taken there is no gurantee that karachites are gonna show up. The onus is on the fans to actually show up or take the matches away from them.

Even in psl, interviews by fans indicated that most of the people that came to watch the game were from areas around sindh

Nothing to do with pitch. We all saw during psl fans didnt show up. They only bother to come in the last few games. They ended up treating the psl like a faysel bank t20.

And this is from a franchise base which comes in second in terms of marketing in the country.

No.

You look at why a city when I was growing up in it used to have full houses is not able to get people in for love/money.

You spend time understanding the issue then make arrangements to bring people back.

I agree with the suggestion actually. In India, people in big cities were exhausted with IPL etc and test cricket had poor crowd. BCCI included 2nd tier cities for test cricket it helped a lot.
