So all set for first game of the 7 match series.

A few talking points

1. Openers - will we see same combo?
2. Openers - strike rates - will they improve?
3. What XI should Pakistan play
4. Newbies - Aamer Jamal and Abrar Ahmed - will they get a chance to play?
5. Shan Masood - what position will he play if he does get a chance?
6. Middle order - who will Pakistan choose?

Hoping:

Haider plays all 7 games
Dahani plays atleast 4-5
Aamer Jamaal plays atleast 3-4

It's a long series and it's a wonderful opportunity to try out new ideas as well as players. I hope they use it constructively rather than wasting it on "getting back to form", giving "confidence" to main players etc.

1 Shan
2 Babar
3 Haider
4 Rizwan
5 Nawaz
6 Asif/ifti
7 Shadab/abrar
8 Amir jamal
9 M wasim
10 Rauf/Husnain
11 Naseem/ Dahani

Rest Shadab, Rauf and Naseem for atleast 3 matches and play dahani, abrar and husnain those matches.. Give aamir jamal and M.wasim all 7 matches and check who is better for wc... I wish I had choice at number 6 but unfortunately there is none.. I believe ifti and asif are still better than Khushdil.. I wish I had Haris sohail, or even shoaib maqsood for slogging would have been better that ifti and asif..But babar has his final call obviously

1. Mohammed Rizwan (wk)
2. Babar Azam (c)
3. Shan Masood
4. Haider Ali
5. Mohammed Harris
6. Asif Ali
7. Shadab Khan
8. Mohammed Nawaz
9. Mohammed Wasim
10. Naseem Shah
11. Haris Rauf

1st game is crucial get Eng underpressure from game 1 we lack a hitter who can give sleepless nights to opposition

1. Mohammed Rizwan (wk)
2. Babar Azam (c)
3. Shan Masood
4. Haider Ali
5. Mohammed Harris
6. Asif Ali
7. Shadab Khan
8. Mohammed Nawaz
9. Mohammed Wasim
10. Naseem Shah
11. Haris Rauf

Nawaz and Shadab should not be batting that low their position is 5&6 given the paucity of quality batsman

They will play this team

Rizwan they may rest him
Babar
Shan Masood
Haider Ali
Iftikhar
Asif Ali
Shadab (if Fit)
Nawaz
Wasim Jnr
Naseem Shah
Rauf

Ideally they should rest Shadab,Rizwan and Naseem

Unlikely they will rest players for the series with Pakistan still trying to figure out their idea combination.

Likely some rotation of players and fast bowlers in particular. Rizwan has been playing non-stop cricket in all three formats without rest. If there is a player who needs a few games off, its him. Pakistan are due to be quite busy after the WC too.

Masoood has to obv take fakhars place so he should be one down. Haider should come in instead of ifty or khushdil and give him all series

I really hope khushdil gets dropped.
He is just the most useless batsman i have ever seen.

They will ignore everything. Play every player in every game. Injure a couple of them. Rizwan is most likely to be injured and out long-term the way they're deploying him for relentless jihad. The new players will be given the least possible chances. They're simply stupid from top to bottom, you can't expect anything of them.

Pakistan need to play as much Dahani as possible in this series as possible - he needs to settle down in Intl cricket so he can be a good backup

Why ignore the long bank holiday weekend and have the match on Tuesday when people are back to work?

What a joke

Why ignore the long bank holiday weekend and have the match on Tuesday when people are back to work?

What a joke

The bank holiday is in the UK. Match is taking place in Pakistan .

Besides it’s a bank holiday that has only come about due to the queen passing .

The joke is that people like your selves moan to much without rhyme or reason.

They will play this team

Rizwan they may rest him
Babar
Shan Masood
Haider Ali
Iftikhar
Asif Ali
Shadab (if Fit)
Nawaz
Wasim Jnr
Naseem Shah
Rauf

Yup agreed. This is my understanding as well based on the current mentality. We might see Shan at 4, other than that Middle order is floater anyway

Our extremely conservative team management will most likely go full strength, and wait until the dead rubbers before testing the fringe players.

Babar and Rizwan should be instructed to aim for 50 in the PP, not 40. It's time they start playing according to team's requirements instead of staying in comfort zone.

Haider should be given all 7 matches preferably at 3 but 4 at the lowest.

Remember one thing Markhor

If Pakistan aim for 50-0 in the PP
The opposition will go for 70-0

We are years behind everyone in white ball cricket right now.

Haider cannot bat at 4 as it's a position which requires thinking. We will repeat the same mistakes we made with Umar Akmal by giving a brainless player too much responsibility.

Haider needs to either be at 3 or 6 but the main thing is that he needs a license to thrill.

I hope all players stay fit and would never hope someone gets injured but with Rizwan its reaching pathetic levels. 1 minute he is acting as if he has a serious injury, few moments later when batting he is running like nothing has happened.

Also what will he do in Aus batting for 55 balls at 115 SR?

It's silly that people want to break up Pakistan's biggest strength when it comes to batting, which is the opening partnership of Babar and Rizwan. They have to keep opening and simply need to get back in form (Babar) and up their SR by taking more risks earlier (Rizwan).

1) Babar
2) Rizwan
3) Masood
4) Haider
5) Asif
6) Iftikhar
7) Shadab
8) Nawaz
9) Rauf
10) Hasnain
11) Naseem

The pacers should be rotated every game because we cannot afford any injuries. However, Haider, Iftikhar, Asif and Masood should get to play each match. We need them in form for the World Cup.

So it seems the majority of the team eg openers etc, is selected. With those constraints, I would play a longer tail for now and rotate the 5 fast bowlers for the 4 slots.

Babar
Rizwan
Shan
Haider
Nawaz
Shadab
Asif
Rauf
Hasnain
Dahani
Naseem

Don't think Babar will experiment much. Expecting Iftikhar and Khushdil to play almost all the games.

I think nobody on this forum considers Khushdil Shah a batter but don't know why Waseem selects him as a better...he is wrost than Awais zia....

Babar Azam speaking to the press:

“Our opening partnership has been very successful for the last two years. Look, there are different situations and scenarios, what the team requires, and what are the conditions. So, it depends on the planning"

“So, in my opinion, the way our opening partnership had been in the last two-year period, helped our team and gave Pakistan many victories. So, the momentum our opening pair establish is later on continued by the middle-order"

“I was concerned about my own performance but was happy for the middle-order as it performed and won us crucial matches in Asia Cup as well"

“The middle order is not a cause for concern, and since it is cricket, your graph will fluctuate up and down. Therefore, our goal is to support those that are underperforming"

“Look, in a rough patch, all you can do is to avoid overthinking and keep things simple. And the most important thing is to keep faith in yourself"

“You’ve done it in the past and you’ll do it again. Sometimes you achieve something and sometimes you don’t. So, I always try to remember the positives I have done"

Eng v Pak is always exciting and whatever the condition and depth of squad you can never predict it atleast what I have observed over the years 2005 series in Pakistan the deadly reverse swings
2006 the Hair drama in Oval
2010 the tainted trio and then the closely fought ODIs
2012 Eng's final frontier fell flat in Emirates
Loads and loads of exciting series

Our extremely conservative team management will most likely go full strength, and wait until the dead rubbers before testing the fringe players.

Sadly thats how I see it going down too...Claiming reasons such as "momentum" and "winning combination", well see a full strength Pakistan team with no experiments or change of tactics. This is the last chance theyll get at testing things out before the WC.

Haider should be given all 7 matches preferably at 3 but 4 at the lowest

Id like to see Masood and Haider feature in all matches. At the end of it, we should have a pretty good idea whether they deserve a chance in the WC or not. Haider at 3 and Masood at 4 makes the most sense to me. If Shadab is promoted to 3, then Haider 4 and Masood sits out.

Babar and Rizwan should be instructed to aim for 50 in the PP, not 40. It's time they start playing according to team's requirements instead of staying in comfort zone.

In my opinion thats not going to yield any results. We've seen these two crumble every time the pressure is on them to score at a rate thats higher than their usual. Specially Babar, you could see it in the last few matches in the Asia cup. He turns into this confused individual who attempts ill advised bottom handed slogs out of nowhere in between regular cricketing shots. Its just not his game, yet anyway. You can see it even after he's been at the crease for 15 overs and time has come to accelerate, he just doesnt look at ease doing that. When was the last time we saw him blasting big time after getting a 50 ?

The issue is reluctance to change XI and employ same set of players again and again and not making changes is hurting Pakistan cricket for a long long time

I will go with

Babar Azam
Shan Masood
Haider Ali
Muhammed Haris
Iftikhar
Asif Ali
Nawaz
Qadir
Wasim Jnr
Hasnain
Dahani

Rizwan should be rested alongside Naseem,Rauf and Shadab.
Should be straight shoot out between Dahani and Hasnain.

Im sure i read on cricinfo rizwan is to be rested-so Muhammad Harris is in- look forward to that

Whatever the lineup is, please let Haider play. He should play all the T20's to see what he can do. You know what Khushdil/Asif are capable of but you need to know what exactly is Haider capable of. Either open or bat him at #3.

Would love to see this line up,

1.Haider
2. Harris (wk)
3.Babar
4. Nawaz
5. Shadab
6. Aamer
7. Asif Ali
8.Wasim Jr
9. Rauf
10. Naseem
11. Dahani

My preferred XI for the game

1. Harris(wk)
2. Babar (c)
Because he is utterly useless in T20's apart from opener. In T20's you can argue he is useless irrespective of position in the XI.
3. Haider
4. Shan
Only in my team so that people can shut themselves up who think he should be the 1st name in the team. He IMO is a domestic bully nothing else.
5. Nawaz
6. Shahdab/Aamer
7. Asif
8. Wasim
9. Naseem
10. Rauf
11. Hassnain

Team I think they'll actually play

1. Babar(c)
2. Shan
3. Harris
4. Haider
5. Nawaz
6. Khusdil
7. Asif
8. Wasim
9. Naseem
10. Rauf
11. Hassnain

The greatest T20 batter is useless for you?

The greatest T20 batter is useless for you?

Greatest T20 batter with a S/R of 128 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

The only reason his average is high because opposition team knows if Babar stays for ling his team will loose the game, so they don't really try to get him out.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.

Lord, grant me the serenity not to watch a minute of this 7-game shitshow,
courage to not peek into Pakpassion to see what's going on,
and wisdom to know that morons like Babar/Rizwan/Saqi never change.

Just from watching the one game, the final of the national T20 cup, Saim Ayub and Omair bin Yousuf should be playing against England, plus a fast bowler, plus a spinner like Usama Mir. And that's just from two teams! All of whom deserve to be there. But they will go full strength like it's jihad from game one, and if they win a match they will keep the winning combination, and if they lose they will be all the more desperate not to change, thus giving up the last opportunity to improve their lot before the world cup. Pakistan has more than enough talent, and given the puny resources, pound for pound more cricketing talent than any country in the world. But to manage it and get the best out of it is another matter.

Historic series. Now all SENA countries travelled to Pakistan (Nz to come in Dec). I hope we sort out our ties with India, can't wait to see Ind vs Pak in Pakistan.

Wrt to todays match, Pakistan should try some new faces to check their temperament against top side.

I would go with:

Babar
Haider
Shaan
Haris
Iftikhar (no choice, as he can bowl too)
Asif Ali ( hope out of 150 he hits at least 2)
Shadab
Jamal (need to give him try)
Nawaz
Haris
Dhani

I expect an unchanged XI - Would be wrong to not give Haider and Shan another chance.
