What's new

Pakistan v New Zealand | 1st ODI | Rawalpindi | 27th April | New Zealand Innings

He bowls a very full length that absolutely needs that 140 plus pace with a touch of swing. Doesnt have a good length to fall back on. At the moment he is bowling innocuous half volleys.

on top of that every man and his dog knows what his plan is, bowl full up front... might get lucky against newbs but regulars will chew him up...

I hate to say it but I don’t feel his action is clean from some angles

Please Pakistan fans, don’t crucify me for this assessment

I think it is just the use of the wrist that gives the illusion.

I do not get how Shaheen was decently quick in the PSL and now has slowed down.

Full swinging in does not get chewed up by anyone.

what game r u watching bhai? post injury he is a mess... obv the odd ball will be good... and i m not hating on him, just stating facts... i do want him to do good.

New Zealand are doing well
Pakistanis will be walking wickets if it's little hint of swing

Shaheen is going to keep regressing by playing 5 straight meaningless t20s in a meaningless series and every other league around the world. PCB really is terrible at managing their best players. Shaheen is a prized possession. At this rate he's going to down as a nobody

4 overs, spaced out, and only 2 hrs in field max... easy peasy

10 overs in 3 - 4 spells, hot cold syndrome, 4 hrs in field... lots of mental and physical stress...

exactly why bumrah recovers enough for ipl and then goes to shelf again.

umm not really. Shaheen needs match practise, if he cant eve play 15 matches than the guy is useless

Naseem is somehow very disciplined. it's what you need in ODis. But these other t20 bowlers won't get that -- including SSA now too unfortunately.

What? Everything is wrong with this comment.

4 overs spaced out blah blah blah all also went for the t20 series just played. His pace was down there as well.

As for your second point, it hasn't even been an hour of play. Shaheen's pace has been down since the first over. So the point on spells, hours in field, mental and physical stress, etc., are not present right now

kyon 15 matches k baad gold medal milna hai, teehee

pcb needs to adapt rotation policy, esp when we have a handfull of pacers, rather than grinding them to the ground 1 by 1, esp injury prone or injured ones...

He's been getting a lot of match practice. A bit too much for t20s. Just take some rest in that format is all I'm saying and not play every single game of meaningless series

Yeah but even in the meaningless t20 series he was a slow poke

umm they dont need a rotation policy. Pakistan barely plays cricket. If a bowler cant bowl 4 overs and a few games than there is no need to play them.

PCB has not grinded any bowler as of late by over bowling.

Shaheens injury was not cause of over bowling but cause of fielding just like how rumman got injured

He hasn't played that many games, its PSL.

After injury he needs to play more games to get his bowling back, i dont think Pakistan even has that many test games, so playing more wont hurt him. His pace will only get back by playing more not by warming the benches just for the sake of rotation

my comment was for a pacer in general... and shaheen has been below par in psl aswell, but was slighty faster than here as t20 is easier than odis... have you had the luxury of playing a season or two of both? i highly doubt.

I know i have, t20s is easy peasy to give max effort compared to a 50 over... and in 50 overs you can ask me to do 10 on the trot, and its easy (body soreness wise, obv pace will go down towards last few)... but coming back later on body is sore as hell, and pace can suffer, but if u keep the pace then at the end you walk around like a grandpa ;-P

Shaheen fielding at long on

A real hot spot. He shouldn’t be there for his own sake

Shaheen was literally run into the ground. It's not up for debate. He was statistically the most overworked pace bowler. Bowled most overs for 1-1.5 year period. That even when we play far less cricket than other teams.

As someone who followed every single match Shaheen played, he was visibly tired and down on pace even before his injury and desperately needed rest.

he was never run into the ground. He never got injured due to bowling mate.

He got injured due to fielding. It was a fielding injury that ruined his kneee, just like how RUmman Raees got one

He was though. He bowled the most overs by any pacer across formats. Much more than other high pace bowlers like Starc, Cummins, Rabbada etc. even though we play less cricket than them.

Like I said he was visibly fatigued and down on pace even before his injury. That is running into the ground.

he bowled alot, but he was never injured due to his bowling. It was fielding that cause the injury.

Major bhai an injury isnt always all black and white that while bowling you need to see his knee buckle, or fall/trip and snap something... when a human body is over worked/clocked, then it becomes suspect to more injuries to take place, alot of times thats what niggles etc are... and in his case, he was playing to the extent he would show up to some toddlers house to bowl at him... now obv he got injured while fielding, but that was the last straw that broke the camels back...

and as far as rotation policy goes, you are looking at it from a single point of view, if any team needs it badly and should utilise is Pak. To keep bowlers fresh (when they practice/train daily they are getting their safe quotas in) if a player isnt playing that doesnt mean he is just dwindling his thumbs all day... we have plenty of pacers atm, and we have the need and luxury to blood new guys in slowly and have backups ready in case a shaheen is fully toasted just b4 the WC, rather than scrambling at the last minute to get a undercooked rookie. Also, it speeds up the rookies and widens their game knowledge and awareness at higher levels.

bro the injury of Shaheen was Black and White. He got injured while fielding in a game against Sri Lanka. he landed on his knee badly and got injured. That injury was never cause of bowling.

Similarly, Rumman Raees got injured ina game where he landed on his knee during PSL and that ended his international career.

It was never the last straw because before that injury people have assumptions that oh he might get injured or might have niggle. This was never proven, he was bowling fine before the injury and fans kept fearing he will eventually run down which never happened.

Rotation policy is needed when you are playing alot of games. pakistan are not playing any more t20s and the odis they play is just this series. Asia Cup is a maybe and who knows if we play Afghanistan for an odi series or not.

We dont have many games to play. Right now, we dont need to play young blood as team should be prepared for the world cup. Ihsanullah should be the last new bowler to be given a debut

It's kinda mad how boring ODIs have become.

That diet of T20i's and pyjama leagues has really killed the appetite for this format of LO cricket.

I think his point is that excessive bowling without recovery can weaken ligaments to the point that they can be susceptible to injury while fielding. Less worn ligaments might not have snapped.

Thank you!

He was never down on pace.

He was clearly down on pace in series vs Australia and West Indies in 2022.

nz gonna end up having selection headaches for WC out of no where all thanks to our team...

if nawaz wasnt a buddy, idk how he merits a spot in the team... he hasnt got a single performance to recount... (the cameo vs ind in t20 was bat only)

Young threw it away there

A big hundred was there for the taking!

Mitchell a few times has run right through the middle of the strip with no one really picking it up

Recently took a five wicket haul in odis. Averages 27 with an economy under 5. Batting wise has been terrible
