What's new

Pakistan vs New Zealand | 1st ODI | Abu Dhabi | Nov 7, 2018 | New Zealand Innings

Hasan’s failure could be due to his height. He succeeded in England and Australia because he got the ball to bounce a bit extra and seam but in UAE it’s never going to happen. His failure could simply be due to the UAE pitches.

The biggest asset that I look for in a young player is temperament, and that is why I have been very impressed with Imam.

In spite of having so many people criticizing him for being a nepotistic selection, he has managed to ignore all that noise and score runs.

The way he played composed knocks under high pressure against Afghanistan and Bangladesh when others were going bananas said a lot about him.

Honestly speaking, I am not impressed with Shadab and his career trajectory shows a familiar path - a path many Pakistanis cricketers have ended up on.

His batting has completely diminished and he took the game by storm but has tapered off. This spell seems like an aberration to me.

Nobody starts their career as an ATG, chill out mate!

Many people won't like this but Shaheen is also a terrible death bowler. His pace is certainly overrated. His average pace is 132-135kph and he bowls a lot of half volleys at the death. Will be thrashed by quality hitters.

I guess there is no such thing as honing your craft? Especially when you're 18?

for what Ross Taylor did, it is just a by product of the AUS/NZ/SAF/ENG losing a few games on the trot and then their true colors coming out. These teams can't take a few losses on the trot, they can only dish out losses but when the tables turn they start sledging and show their true colors of how low they are
Hafeez has been caught twice already, how is he still allowed to bowl when he's already given into the temptation of chucking when not performing.

That batting average is misleading. Even Hasan scored a 50 in New Zealand.

He is a glorified tail-ender at best. Certainly doesn’t qualify as an all-rounder. We saw his batting in the Asia Cup.

Are you kidding me? He has shown his potential with the bat multiple times in ODI and test cricket. He had one very poor innings at the Asia cup and you are fixating on that. Try to balance your perspective at times instead of stubbornly building on your own narrative.

you are you so full of it. You are another wanna be who thinks he knows everything. You are impressed with imam because he scored big knocks against the mighty AFG and BANG but shadab scores in NZ don't count because Hassan scored a 50 too WOW you are a genius. Keep hating and talking nonsense.

I repeat, Hafeez has been caught twice.

Fans on here even accuse him of chucking... if he weren't Pakistani, you'd be cheering the fact someone called out a chucker.

I repeat taylor isnt an umpire and should mind his business. Stop defending the indefensible. Who made taylor the umpire? I hope Taylor is fined and Pakistan make an official complaint!

This gonna be a tricky chase. Fakhar needs to fire at the top and Babar needs to play for a big one.

Awful awful death bowling.... From 207/7 to 266/9 thanks mainly to Hasan "Swagger" Ali

I don't think they want to put a lot of pressure on an 18 year old bowler.

Two under 20 blowers have taken 8 of the 9 wickets here and kept PAK somewhat in game still ...... then what is experience for? Enjoying a higher central contract & match fee?

If he wasn't good enough to be trusted in last overs, make him bowl out inside 45 ..... now I see JK has come back for one over as well. That was a clear blunder by Captain cool not bowling the best bowler of the day full quota - hope Bhakhts won't settle it some times in future.

267????? Too much for our batting.
Will be lucky to get even 200 runs

An average of 30 at a pathetic strike rate is peak batting performance for this “all rounder” which says everything that needs to be said.

A 15-20 average batsman at best. In other words, a bowler who can bat a tiny bit.

Nobody goes out to chuck. Thats his action and you simply bowl. Your implying he intentionally chucks to gain an advantage. That is implying Hafeez is a cheat which he is not. The chucking rule seems to only apply to one player these days..

With due respect Asia Cup is not everything - Pak had a collective meltdown as you would use to excuse India's bad performances.

If Pak can somehow chase this, they are gonna win this

Junaid has been pretty average and people thought he was next coming of Wasim after taking wickets of some club level Bangladesh batters

Hasan and Sarfraz are at the top of my “players I dislike the most” list 2018 edition.

Take it up with the ICC bro. :))

NZ is being cry babies here, what Ross did there was pathetic. There are fully defined rules in place at this level, eyes watching Hafeez more than you can imagine. This isn't gulli cricket where you start complaining about some one chucking because in gulli cricket there is no one establishing order.

I am no Hafeez fan but under the law he is allowed to bowl till he is not allowed to. He was banned twice and went through the process. It seems you have an issue with the process well then sign a petition, go beat on the ICC door. Tell your players to have some shame and take losses on the chin.

Match threads used to be fun... now its full of -ve comments and constant nagging:facepalm:

This is exactly what many in match threads have been saying...

I agree re Imam. I've rated him since the moment I saw him for the first time in International cricket. The best thing about him for me is also his temprament and confidence. You just feel he's in control when he's batting.

Regarding Shadab, I'm much more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Losing your way a little after a bright start is a common occurrence in sports. Many players learn from it and bounce back. This bowling performance from Shadab was a mature one. Seems like he's tweaked a couple of things. Didn't overbowl his googly and was giving it good air. Hoping he continues improving.

Sarfaraz with his strategies, and Hassan and Junaid with their bowling need to sort themselves out soon

More pathetic than cheating to win matches?

was absolutely horrible even I was expecting hi to bowl, hope we win otherwise he should be balimed for those 50 runs

Take that list and flush it down the toilet because that's what its worth

This pitch seems to be giving nothing to the pacers. Even Shaheen, who apparently has had a great showing, has gone at over six runs an over.

I would bring in Faheem for Hasan in the next game.

Bad bowling to let them score that many, but before world cup Pakistan need plenty of practice to score such scores so all is not lost. Winning by chasing 220 will not help at the WC.

I stopped watching the game after that 3 wicket over thinking it's all over in this game and a one sided boring affair but the score now makes the match interesting again.

Out of reach for Pakistan, unfortunately.

Struggled to chase 250 against Afghanistan and were not able to chase 240 against Bangladesh.

All hopes are on the new golden boy Imam.

19(43) for Imam today.

they arent experts and most of them are actually very poor observers of the game..
Well, they might be onto to something because he's been caught and banned twice.

You're defending him because he's Pakistani but given what's been said about Hafeez by Pakistanis themselves, he probably is chucking.

Just that chasing and batting is their weakest aspect and have been for sometime especially against good teams. If they can overcome it in the first match of the series, I am pretty sure they can win it.

he's not cheating..Taylor just thinks he's chucking when he isnt. That is pathetic and very low class behaviour.
Hafeez has been caught and banned twice for chucking. He is no angel so can be stop pretending like Taylor is accusing someone who has a squeaky clean record.

He could have gone about addressing it better, since Hafeez has been caught twice and has by most accounts here still been doing it, I have little sympathy for him.

Just need to ensure our top six bats out the majority of the overs and we should win this one.
However our top three will be crucial especially if Boult gets some swing up front, under the lights.

But the way to do it is low class, throwing a temper tantrum in the middle of pitch.

If Hafeez is caught and banned again, then what?

Was it still wrong of him to call out a bowler who has been chucking and got away with it for as long as he did, after a second suspension?

Or do we commend him for getting a cheater banned?

Yes, it's wrong and frankly, stupid. Taylor doesn't come across as a smart cookie so it's probably not his fault. If Hafeez is chucking, the umpires and the match referee will take care of the issue. Taylor needs to shut up and play cricket.

I have a feeling we will fall short, not because of any extraordinary bowling but because our bats will let the runrate rise too high and then get out while trying to hit out.

Then that's fair.

I'm not saying Taylor is wrong, but this isn't street cricket.

He acted like a damn child out there.

He would've been better off speaking to the umpire.
