11:00 26Jan2007 RTRS-Cricket-Ntini, Kallis spearhead South Africa attack
By Telford Vice
CAPE TOWN, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Fast bowlers Makhaya Ntini and Jacques Kallis spearheaded South Africa's attack on the first day of the third test against Pakistan in Cape Town on Friday.
Pakistan, who lost the toss and were put in to bat, were 70 for four at lunch. Mohammad Yousuf was 13 not out with Inzamam-ul-Haq on six.
Ntini, who took two for 24, struck first in the eighth over when he squared up Mohammad Hafeez with a straightening delivery and had him caught by AB de Villiers at third slip for 10.
Three balls earlier De Villiers had dropped a difficult chance offered by Imran Farhat, on 10, off fast bowler Dale Steyn.
Pakistan slipped to 27 for two when Yasir Hameed, who scored seven, played forward unconvincingly to Ntini and steered a head-high catch to Kallis at second slip.
Kallis, who was introduced into the attack at first change in the 15th over and took two for 21, claimed his first wicket in his second over when Farhat edged to Graeme Smith at first slip to be dismissed for 20.
Kallis then had Younis Khan caught by De Villiers at second slip, reducing Pakistan to 54 for four in the seventh over before lunch. De Villiers leapt high and to his left to secure a stunning catch.
South Africa made three changes to the team that lost the second test by five wickets in Port Elizabeth as Pakistan levelled the series at 1-1.
Herschelle Gibbs' absence was enforced by his ban for verbally abusing Pakistani supporters during the first test in Centurion, while fast bowler Andre Nel and allrounder Shaun Pollock were rested.
Batsman Boeta Dippenaar replaced Gibbs and will open the innings with Smith. Allrounder Andrew Hall and Steyn were brought in for Pollock and Nel.
Paceman Shahid Nazir replaced injured fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar in the only change to the Pakistan team.
