Pakistan vs Sri Lanka | 11th Match, World Cup | Bristol | June 7, 2019 | Pre-match Discussion Thread

Washed out game against Lanka would mean we have to beat one of Australia and India over the course of next week.
 
Wouldn't really want to play Sri Lanka on an overcast day which is what Friday looks like with rain. They have the type of swing bowlers that will give us all types of problems
 
I checked the weather for the match on bbc, predicted to rain heavily from 6am to midnight!
NO PLAY LIKELY!
Take the point and move on.
Could cost us a semi place.
Just hope our aussie or NZ match is washed out, as this will balance out.
 
Man this is so depressing, lowers our chance of winning this World Cup and its not even our fault

You are right we now can only lose 1 of our remaining 6 games to be sure of a semi place. I think the aussie game will be the most difficult. Obviously,, non of the games are going to be easy!
 
After 3 matches, normal expectations would've been

v WI - win +2 pts (actual 0 pts)
v Eng - loss - 0 pt (actual +2 pts)
v SL - win +2 pts (potentially +1pt)

Hence if tomorrow is a washout, it will be 1 point lost for Pak as far as realistic expectations are concerned.

Add to that the huge negative NRR. Also ideally I would swap the win vs Eng with WI.
 
It’s a bit harsh for Pakistan to be put in this position due to the weather. Pakistan would have backed themselves to win this game. They will be under pressure to win their remaining games in the group stages which can force a mistake.

You cannot control weather , Pakistan did not have to play Australia in Champions Trophy , there game was washed out , in 1992 WC Pakistan got a point after being 84 all out . So , its better to play well in what games they get. Other teams games also may get washed out.
 
There should have been a reserve day really considering it's being played in England early summer.
 
Need some strong prayers for this guys.
I think points dropped is a blow we can't recover from in terms of qualifying

Pakistan team coached future cricket stars from May Park Primary School as part of ICC Cricket 4 Good initiative at Bristol on Wednesday.
 
I have tickets to this March, really hope it just stays cloudy all day with no rain. It was predicted to rain today as well but so far has kept away.

Looks like weather improving to some extent. We might get a shortened game. May be 30 over each side.
 
Likelyness it will be a shortened game, if thats the case we will need to make sure we score quickly early on in an inns, no snail like batting from imam.

This is a must win game, weve already lost to WI. Pak need to be beating sides where the quality of sides is similar.
 
This is why playing a tournament in England is annoying. Just like Australia couldn't do nothing and got eliminated in CT17. It wasn't even their fault

From the weather reports - heavy rain from 6am to midnight, doubt a single ball will be bowled!
 
I will prefer 1 valuable point rather than playing a start stop 30 over match in cloudy conditions against 4 Sri Lankan fast bowlers who are high on confidence after beating Afghanistan on Green wicket.

Law of averages is also an issue, as sri lanka has never beaten Pakistan in world cup. Take a point, and move on and play at your best against Aussies and take revenge of 2015 Quarter final.
 
Well they have downgraded from thunder storms but rail still predicted all day....what's the drainage like at Bristol?
 
The chances of a match happening have improved by a slight margin, Lets say by 20% in the last hour.

They can change the batting positions of Harris and Hafeez depending on the situation.They can also drop a fast bowler in place of Malik if the conditions are dry... please take this info to sarfi and Mickey...
 
People living in the area will know better. The weather forecast doesn't look too clever.
 
Forecast looks to have improved a little. If zoom in to the radar. Its showing clear at 10am then at 1pm showers and clear at 4pm again. So maybe a stop start day with match in. Or maybe a full wash out OR if we are lucky thr weather may pass without resulting in match being affected considerably.
 
if there is play. they should give chances to shaheen and hasnain to have a go against the weak SRL batting unit

Are people really that naive saying it will be hard for us to qualify if it's a washout? It's UGLY England. Worst place to live. There will be other washouts as well which will effect other teams. So it will equal out.

In a tournament like this esp in England there should be a reserve day. Teams prepare for 4 years to win against every opponent in this tournament only to see the game get washed out. What rubbish.

Unfortunately Pakistan will miss out on a point here. With due respect to SLN, I think Pakistan were clear favts for this game.
 
Really hope we get a game tomorrow. What’s the cut off time for a 20 over match? It maybe raining all day but i wonder how hard the rain is.

yup can easily be done in the data between games but would be difficult to fill stadiums mid week for group games

Its possible but it's also possible there could be enough time to and complete a 20 over match. The afternoon looks more promising esp if the breeze is strong strong. From 1pm to 6pm the rain could stop for most of this time according to the weather site I always use.

I have decided to go because now there is a chance of a non-refund if enough overs are bowled. A T20 game will be good for Sri Lanka but a abandoned game would be tough for Pakistan who have just found some great form.

Or maybe a reserve a venue. If you know 2 days in advance that a game is likely to be washed out, just move it to a neighboring city. 3-4 hours bus/train ride shouldn't be too much of a problem for the teams.

Not sure but 1pm is too early to call the game off. 20 overs per side usually takes just over 3 hrs. But in theory I think the umpires can call the game off at any point in the day.

Its frustrating as Friday is the only day of the week with so much rain around.
 
I don;t think drainage at Bristol is great so even if the rain stops miraculously for a few hours, it will take them the whole time clearing the water before rain breaks out again. Leave it make, ain't gonna happen...

Yes. Otherwise ,WC shouldn't be played in England.
 
SL never won a match against us at WC. Pakistan thrashed them in last 5 ODIs between two and yet SL captain is wary of Unpredictable Pakistan.
 
World Cup streaks are only a thing Indians care about since their head to head with most teams is garbage despite having their ATG team for a decade. I wasn't even aware of this "streak" because it quite a stupid thing to keep track off.
 
Rain percentage has reduced on accuweather.. Yesterday it was 80% now down in 40,s and 50,s. However yellow rain warning is issued. Game will be called off at last.
