What's new

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka | 1st Test | Rawalpindi | 11-15th December, 2019 | Day 1 | Match Thread

3 down. PAK is partially back in the game, but this is from 89/0, which suggests it won't be easy going from now on. Shinwari executed the round the wicket plan perfectly - making right handers play at him.

Not sure when you have started watching cricket, but Gul debuted at 18, Amir at 17, JK at 18.... Amir & JK might have played together in their teens. Adil was 19 in SAF, Shinwari 18 on debut .... I believe in that Multan Test against BD, Gul was playing at 18 and they had one debutante who was 17 ... and they did bowl together.

Jk and amir never bowled together in their teens in international cricket. Gul and the other debutante might be the only case during my cricket watching years.

Shinwari has more jigra than Amir. Amir will give up and resort to spin the moment he sees there is nothing in the wicket for him

When was the last time we heard this Mich noise on the first day of Pakistan's home game? Lovely to see

I think the inexperience caused such a bad start for us. Good conditions for pace bowling these. You can seam all you want.

They're doing much better now. Reverse might come into play as well.

Used to think Chandimal had a golden/silver tooth on the upper left side, but it turned out to Be a not s good looking tooth :yk

No, it's the new ball - T20 has eaten new bowling skills from PAK cricket. Bowlers are more comfortable holding with cross seem, knuckle seem, slower ball grip. Add to that those UAE burned mud - new ball is a burden for PAK attack, it's like wet soap, doesn't stick in palm. Abbas, Shinwari & Shaheen had been into International cricket long enough to know how to make openers play at new ball, if the control was there.

A spinner would have been handy at this moment.

Abbas gets one now. That was a very good deliver, jagged appreciably off the seam

Great delivery. That's the line and length that should've been bowled a lot more.

So glad we don't have any spinners who would have RUINED this pressure.

SL are excellent spin players.

Almost unplayable ball - had he touched it, might not have carried to slip, but you need luck to survive such balls that can get you out either edging or bowled.

Aye haye aye haye Chas a gayi this is some nasty bowling man wow tears so nostalgic the noise behind in the crowd our fast bowlers getting wickets with beautiful deliveries like these damn I missed cricket in Pakistan it’s been too long

Abbas has been in good rhythm this spell, more accurate and also quicker.

Rull te gaye aaan lekin chass agai e.

Well its the reverse swing which is doing the damage. With new ball, Pakistan did not genrate any swing or control however with old ball they are alot more comfortable.

Shinwari should look to bowl one or two big inswingers which get exaggerated by the angle. A well directed inswinger from such an angle can be quite devastating but we don't see it enough from Pakistan these days.

That's what you get with an all-pace attack.

Constant pressure.

Absolute joy to watch.

None of the wickets have been because of reverse swing.

Ball seaming off the pitch.

They actually swung it plenty, apart from Abbas. Just didn't bowl consistently enough in good areas, except for Shaheen.

Ramiz has literally wasted the last hour moaning about the run-rate, pretending as though Sri Lanka are playing against themselves and ignoring the spells by the pacers.

The only good side of playing 4 pacers is that the over rate may be bad and azhar mjght get banned for a test match.

Decent fightback from Pakistan. Still staggered they've not chosen a single specialist spinner so they could rotate the seamers from the other end at least, plus ICC will dock points for slow over rates.

Crowd looks better than anything we've had in UAE for the lsst 10 years though still plenty of empty seats.

Yes it's very risky going in without a spinner. Fast bowlers will run out steam if Sri Lanka manage to hang on, the overrate will cost points and we may dearly miss a spinner if the match stretches on till the end of day 4 or goes on to day 5.

Lack of a spinner hurting us? Shan Masood opening the bowling in the 3rd session.

Heard Abbas bowled a gem of a delivery. Good fightback from Pakistan, but why isn't Yasir playing? Where are the Mickey critics who bashed him for playing only one spinner against SL, two years ago in the UAE? Titan24

Also, Fawad Alam deserved to be playing ahead of Haris Sohail or alternatively they could have kept Azhar Ali opening the batting (instead of bringing in Abid). Not good to see Fawad treated like this, after being left out of Misbah's team after all these years. Either you leave him out the squad or you reward him for his success in domestic cricket.

Can't say I'm surprised though, after all it was Misbah who kept out of the international side during his captaincy days.

Words cannot express how pathetic Misbah's cricketing IQ really is.

When we didn't need Yasir Shah (in Australian conditions), he picks him.

When we need Yasir Shah (in Pakistan), he excludes him.

Apparently it's a BOLD decision
You know the out of the box thinking
If all works well we will be using this attack everywhere lol

At least it shuts up some guys who have been critical of mickey using 1 spinner

Imran Khan was the last Pakistan captain to win a test series against Sri Lanka in Pakistan.

Need to go through some quick overs by bowling Harris. The speeds from the fast bowlers are going down and the over-rate is becoming an issue
