Pakistan vs Sri Lanka | 1st Test | Rawalpindi | 11-15th December, 2019 | Day 1 | Match Thread

The Sri Lankan’s must be thinking that they got the better bargain with them getting Mickey and Pakistan getting Misbah.

Like I had already said, Pakistan is the only home country who doesn't have any home advantage. We believe we owe cricket something so we prepare good flat batting tracks that doesn't help our bowlers at all.

Why is ground looking so ugly!! Searching for Rawalpindi on google shows so much greenery.....

Shaheen has become a better bowler but he needs a good bowling partner , abbas it seems has lost everything he had in his arsenal. May be he is not 29 and is about 35. Someone needs to keep a check on players real ages , waqar younis was done at official age of 32.

Big hearts noor bhai.

That’s true.. I remember for India series in 2006 the flattest wickets were provided.. which was mind boggling because strength of Pakistan is bowling... what do you think is the reason for this

This is the best wicket for PAK team - trust me, it'll not expose the batting, slip catching and it'll definitely bring the old ball in play - more importantly, it'll oppose SRL attack. On a green top, SRL would have scored some runs for sure, PAK would have been 141/7 .... On dry, cracking surface, Lankan spinners will eat PAK batting including Babar alive. Glimpses of what'll happen on hard, bouncy surface .... we have seen in SAF & recently in Australia.

Only mistake they have made here is that they should have picked one specialist spinner.

Right.

Pakistan bowlers can bowl line and length but they can not move the ball regularly. Pace bowlers need to have a stock inswunger or outswingers to get wickets regularly,

It’s all madness and no method in Naseem Shah’s bowling.. but hopefully he will learn

I have never seen two teenagers bowling in tandem in international cricket , has it ever happened.?

Several times - by PAK, now AFGs have joined.

Aquib - WY
Ataur Rehman - Shahid Nazir
Zakir Khan - Mohsin Kamal
Maksood Rana - Aquib
Amir Nazir - Aquib

.... and I am definitely missing few.

That's called talent. Method will come with time or maybe won't but the talent is there. Especially for someone who is barely 16

Thanks , that was before i started watching cricket. Thanks for the info.

Not sure when you have started watching cricket, but Gul debuted at 18, Amir at 17, JK at 18.... Amir & JK might have played together in their teens. Adil was 19 in SAF, Shinwari 18 on debut .... I believe in that Multan Test against BD, Gul was playing at 18 and they had one debutante who was 17 ... and they did bowl together.

Agreed. I'm not entirely sure whether there's a reserved enclosure for VIPs in Pindi for this match however.

A simple google search reveals that tickets for Miandad enclosure as well as IK, Iqbal Qasim and others are AVAILABLE.

On Yayvo, I only saw tickets for the Akhtar enclosure.

Hint of reverse in that ball? This is the time to knock couple more with 30 overs old ball.

here comes rubbish from rameez..
his usual words for tall ballers..
he is taller so yorker can be his surprise delivery..
he use this for irfan in every match or shall i say every over

Yasir Ali at Multan.

I disagree. At this point in time, Pakistan's bowling is the weakest point who struggle to take 10 wickets let alone 20 so they need all the help they can get. Flat batting tracks expose them even more and when you lose the toss, opposing teams will rack up 550 everytime. Once you have 550 on the board, Pakistan team will fold on cement tracks as well due to the scoreboard pressure.

You have to support your weakest point which is bowling. I fear another 550 is on the cards here and then no amount of batting can win this match for Pakistan.

Horrible pitch for Pakistan.

Flat pitch and rain around this could end up in a draw, which is not good for home teams as they lose most important home points.

Overall quality isn't there to put any strategy into action. Couple of weeks back, Mominul decided to bat on a greenish wicket and we were all-out for 160 ...... had he put Indians in, they could have struggled to 73/3 at lunch - then couple of partnership would have taken them to 554/7d .... just one example of what happens when you lack in basic skills.

Personally, I think PAK attack is still better than batting, hence they should bat first on a decent wicket and allow bowlers to try win the game. Where actually is PAK batting stands was shaded by a miracle by Yasir, with bat - otherwise Warner alone was enough to match both innings combined.

Low scoring wicket would have brought 3 young Lankan pacers in to the game from ball 1. This wicket would have suited PAK perfectly had Azhar won the toss - PAK bowlers can defend combined 500 total here bowling 2nd with old ball. Green top would have changed the balance - Lankans know how to use new ball in favorable condition (& now they have Saker as bowling coach), PAK pacer would have been all over the place and conceded some quick runs in a low scoring game to start with.

34 overs gone, and Naseem Shah has already bowled the maximum number of overs that a teenager should bowl in a day.

Good luck batting fourth on this surface.

I reckon the bounce will be pretty variable.

Abbas might be tiered now, bowling 10th over of the day - is Shinwari injured already.

I like what Naseem brings to the table but it's clearly apparent that he needs a couple of seasons in the First Class circuit bowling on dead wickets.

His lengths are all over the place and that is due to the tape ball culture of playing in the streets where bowlers bowl 6 deliveries each with different length.

He needs to do his hard yards in first class where he learns how to bowl 6 deliveries on a good length on 4th and 5th stump line. He won't survive in test cricket unless he learns to do that.

Abbas has nothing to offer and Waqar is too useless to tune him.

Naseem's lengths look fine to me. Abbas has struggled with his line and length today.

Classic example why Naseem isn't ready yet. Bowls a beautiful length delivery on off stump that troubles Matthews but then follows up with a rubbish full length delivery that allows Matthews to get off- strike.

It's unfortunate that Pakistan doesn't have any fast bowlers that they have to fast track a 17 year old into Test cricket.

Can’t bring back Rahat Ali, Imran Khan, Aiaz Cheema and Junaid Khan

Look at Shaheen, he was rubbish during SA tour but him playing continuous international cricket has improved his game. Time to work with Naseem and Shaheen.

Not ideal but best solution right now

Even without rain, can we expect 75 overs/day here? PAK is bang on 13/hour, means 6.5 hours could have allowed 90 overs, but here Umpires are going to offer light, sometimes around 4pm ....... only PCB can arrange a Test in mid December at the the north most venue of Pakistan.

Against every criticism, I had one thing in support for UAE - at least it ensured 450 overs playing time. Here in PAK, wicket is equally stinky, out field is worse and max we can get is 375-380 overs in 5 days in most venues. Misbah's team won several series there, one reason being playing time which supported his "slow burning" tactics - most of his games in PAK would have been drawn from a dominant position, because of playing duration.

Crowd building up and chanting "Babar! Babar!" for some reason :))

Yes. That's the case. It's unfortunate that we have to groom and make fast bowlers at the international level.
