Pakistan vs Sri Lanka | 1st Test | Rawalpindi | 11-15th December, 2019 | Day 1 | Match Thread

I'm going to the stadium later today maybe. I have pass's for all 5 days but the traffic situation is pathetic. Roads are choked so I might just not go today.

1. Bowling on the UAE tracks is an entirely different matter. We had a proven strategy there of playing 2 specialist spinners.

2. Pak pitches are different. This one is very different.

3. Pak bowling stocks are indeed depleted. Abbas is our worst bowler, yet we have to play him, how bad is that. Shinwari, Shaheen and Naseem however, do have potential and not as useless as the others. Shinwari bowled quite well today.

What enclosure tickets? Did you get anything apart from shoaib akhtar?
 
Proper Pakistani pitches have more pace and carry than what we are seeing here. This reminds me of the first PSL final in Lahore which had a horrible pitch, hopefully by the next match things would be in better shape. The Karachi stadium will probably have a better pitch since it's been used for PSL and international cricket.

It hasn't been great indeed. I agree. Should've used the conditions more effectively. Can't blame them too much either as they're all young and inexperienced.

That's why I said 0 or 1 ...... PAK still can get couple before lunch, but bowling has been well below per for Day 1. It's not about being unlucky with wickets, rather the display is poor. Even this kid Naseem has gone to round the wicket from 2nd over and trying to do fancy things; when he should be focusing on bowling out-swing with newish ball at tight channel for edge and bring odd one back for LBW.
 
Naseem should be dropped from U19 squad. They need to manage his workload
 
Naseem is getting it to carry nicely. Abbas is looking poor. Time to give Sameen Gul a debut. Abbas has been bad for a year now.
 
Misbah is so clueless. I'm convinced his Test record would have been more pathetic if he didn't have Ajmal and Younis.
 
The way wicket is behaving on Day 1 morning, scoring will become difficult here. Survival might not be that difficult, but ball won't come on to bat for stroke play and it'll keep lower & lower - SRL should look to get past 350 here and they'll be in driving seat. And PAK is playing 4 pacers here :(
 
Misbah has only been the (unqualified) Chief Selector and Head Coach for 2 months.

And he has given us:

Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal in ODIs.

Yasir Shah and Imran Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed in Tests in Australia.

Five quicks to tour Australia, 3 of them teenagers, 1 of them Musa Khan.

No spinner for a home Test in Pakistan, and an attack with a grand total of 102 Test wickets, led by a medium pacer with 7 wickets in his last 6 Tests.

Where I come from in northern England in this kind of situation we’d be warning our leader to stay away from Little Yellow Vans. In case they have come to take him away to somewhere with padded walls.

Watch Dilruwan Parera who he runs through Pakistan 2nd innings
 
Abbas looks extremly unfit, his line and length is extremely wayward.
 
Why is the grass so brown? Pakistan is so green in general, especially Rawalpindi being towards the north.

Had India played against "this" Sri Lanka, it would have been much much different. :herath
 
Looks like Misbah and Waqar are doing good job to destroy our cricket. Great work from mr. Professional Wasim Khan
 
No spinner and an all rounder are gonna cost us big time. Ridiculous thinking by the management. Haris Sohail is a nothing part timer.

I read in CI that the wicket was kept under cover (to keep it secret!!!) ..... still, this level of nonsense is beyond explainable. And, this guy made his career operating with spinners!!!!! I am not sure if Misbah & WY are in informal talking terms, otherwise this level of blunders you don't expect in professional sports.

Exactly. I've played cricket all my life in Islamabad at the Diamond Cricket Ground which is as green as grounds in NZ.

Search Islamabad on YouTube and you'll see how green the place is. I'm surprised at how ugly the outfield looks here.

not looking good for Pakistan here..
but as expected its going as per Misbah's plan.. mission khatam e pakistan...

Fernando is not that bad. Just that he is slow. Otherwise he looks comfortable. On the other hand Karuna has issues against incoming balls. Probably a weakness
 
This all pace attack strategy is gonna exhaust our pacers. I think every batsman must bowl in this match, even Rizwan should bowl few overs.
 
Our fast bowlers will be so tired after this test that they will fall apart in the 2nd test. If we loose this we will loose the 2nd test as well
 
OK. This is underwhelming.

I expected fire and brimstones considering Pakistani team selection and got whatever Abbas is doing instead.

A spinner bowling before lunch when no frontline spinner was picked. Pak already regretting their selection.

PCB is beyond pathetic when it comes to treating ordinary fans. They don't care about you or me.

Majority of the good seating positions are given to their 'contacts' and VIPs.
 
Looks like SL will score 350 today and tomorrow they will declare around 600/3. Then Azhar will score a classic 20 of 100 balls
 
Truly a shambolic session for PAK pacers. After lunch, with old ball they should come back better, but damage is already done here. Dilruhan is batting at 8 for SRL and both senior batsmen are back - it's going to be tough for PAK without spinners.

Thing is as captain Misbah had certain predefined plans and he stuck to them religiously. Pick experienced bowlers, align the bowling attack around spinners, tire the opposition with dour batting. It wasn't the most attractive brand of cricket but it was effective.

As the coach and selector he seems utterly clueless about the strengths and weaknesses of the team or the core players around which he wants to build this team. He is just randomly testing out strategies and players and pretty much all of his experiments have been utterly ridiculous. If the intention was to go with an all pace attack then the pitch should have been prepared accordingly. Instead you have a pitch where the ball is not carrying to the keeper on day 1!

Same results you get again and again if you not pick performing players from domestic, poor selection at least Yasir shah should be played

Most people have work on Wednesday mornings; it's the middle of the week. Youngsters are in school, college, university - especially during exam season.

If it is reverse swinging, I would definitely give it to Naseem And Usman

My point is that 'VIPs' are not going to be taking up all the other stands even if there were seats reserved for them, so that's really not a good enough reason to not have the stands open for the public.

Agreed. I'm not entirely sure whether there's a reserved enclosure for VIPs in Pindi for this match however.

A simple google search reveals that tickets for Miandad enclosure as well as IK, Iqbal Qasim and others are AVAILABLE.

well not sure about reverse swing after lunch but its looks like azhar & abbas more worried about whats their for lunch
