What's new

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka | 2nd Test | Dubai | Oct 6-10, 2017 | Day 4

Asad Shafiq always scores some runs when he's on the brink of being dropped and doesn't even end up winning the match for us. Useless.

and he was MISBAH golden boy, never dropped him..and u say shafiq performance is bad in the long run..

Say what you will about Shafiq but he is alot more fluent than night watchman Azhar.

Azhar cannot even dream about scoring a test fifty at 65 SR... Heck he doesn't play that fast in ODIs

I'd rather have an Azhar who scores 8 times out of 10 rather than a Shafiq who comes good 1/10 times but looks stylish. AND scores soft runs which end up being of no use to anyone but himself.

Syed1 can't we have a combo of Asad and Azhar, I mean solidity of Azhar plus Fluency of Asad? That would be a deadly combo.

Love how Misbah fans who were hating on Saifi earlier have gone quiet.

Let's slow down. This is the last recognized batting pair. They're going to have to put on a 200+ stand before we can even start sniffing a win here.

Asad's first 50 in almost a year, if he's so mentally tough why doesn't he do it when the team needs him to. He is a bit of a test match wildcard, makes impossible chases look interesting

a good fight back but i think it is in vein, tomorrow it will spin alot more, bowlers will be fresh also...

Overstated. If hypothetically 71 needed with 5 still in hand Pakistan would be huge favourites.

The longer a partnership has lasted, the longer it is likely to keep lasting.

I've said this before and I'll say it again.

He's not mentally tough, but emotionally really strong. Pressure is not an issue for him.

103 in 137 balls says hi.

This is great stuff from these two. Sri Lanka will start to feel nervous soon

Sarfraz with the Kobe eyes.

And rightly so.

This is the toughest part of the chase.

The comparison with Misbah 'll never end... I 'll take Sarfi and his approach towards the game anytime any day every player have good and bad days but Sarfi is a aggressive fighter and will back him up in ups and downs. Early days for him he 'll only get better form here on.

Win or lose, if only our batsman can play with this aggression from the start of the series, start of the match.

They all have the ability, they are just unable to come over the fear of losing.

Also if our fast bowlers can ball with the same energy like Wahab did in the last innings or Hassan Ali does in his each and every delivery our team can surprise everybody in a positive way.

Sounds harsh - but, if Azhar was still batting, PAK's score would have been 97/5 now. I am not sure if any one from PP attends the press briefings, but Arthur should be asked point blank, without rumbling words - what was the exact reason to drop Azhar at 3; that too considering that Usman was almost certain to play, had Azhar opened & he can't be worse that Shan, Sami & sadly Babar.

It has cost at least the AD Test for sure.

This is Pak's last recognized pair. One wicket here can open the flood gates.

I have a feeling this will go down the wire. Pitch looks very good to bat on. Pak's top order succumbed to score board pressure.

We would have fared far better in this series if we had a solid Salahuddin in the middle order in place of over hyped Babar

Shafiq is yielding a different kind of sword today. The sword on which the word victory is engraved.

it took a lot of failures of hafeez to bring azhar to open and he was kind of excelling in the role and here comes arthur fixing the thing which wasnt broken. Really absurd by arthur.

asad always scores a free flowing 100 or so just as he is about to be dropped and gets out when the new ball is arriving. So we loose the game but he keep's his spot

this is nothing new thus far, i doubt they can see this through, even though i hope otherwise

If he wins the game then maybe we should give him another series, otherwise drop this mental midget who only scores runs when you don't expect him (no pressure) or if the situation is not sticky

There are very few in world who drives better than Asad, certainly none from PAK since MoYo, but that guy is still trying to understand his game at this age and 7 years of International cricket.

Thora zayda hogaya :))

Just be happy boys are showing some fight. Expecting a victory at this stage is too early

these remaining 19 overs will most likely decide where this match is heading, SL need just one wicket and it's all over.

I've said this before and I'll say it again.

He's not mentally tough, but emotionally really strong. Pressure is not an issue for him.

Then this has to come from him in the first innings, if he's strong he needs to change this into consistency. He should be doubling this performance that he brings only once in a while

He needed a good mentor in his mid twenties. Now is too late. Had all the ingredients to be Moyo level bat for Pak.

He's really intelligent. Making use of the soft ball and scoring as much as possible.

Our players need to learn the sweep shot , its is paramount for success in these conditions.

They are scripting a typical Pakistani match. Keeping the hopes of the insane fans high before it gets crushed mercilessly and they are left with nothing but ashes.

Shafiq is batting amazingly well. In full flow now, and unless Srilanka get him fast they are in big trouble.

But still I would say Sarfraz is the danger-man. Looking extremely determined and less like a manic hamster. Looks desperate to win, and like he is going to deliver a volley of verbal abuse or worse to anyone who doesn't stand up and make it happen.

He is a Senior now, there is nothing more important in Pak cricket than the Senior tag. Asad would have been playing the next series regardless of what happens/ed here today

Seems like I gave up on this test too soon!

UAE tests only become exciting in last two days... Today was the first ball of the match I watched live. Important lesson for future

The run rate has been exceptional. Let's keep all the wickets we have till the days end.

I am sure - it's not Arthur.

The obvious explanation that he gave is the only face saving answer - team's best batsman should bat at 3, when he definitely knows that Azhar is a mis fit there. And, he is from AUS/SAF school of thought, which resulted in promoting Babar at 3 in ODI - It can't be him, or I haven't seen anything in cricket. Just like for MoHa, batting Azhar at 3 kept him in team, this is the same old story, otherwise one of Amin or Sallu would have played by now, instead of Shan.

How the heck is this not a sticky situation?????? 60/5 chasing 320 on day 4/5 spinning track against high quality spinners!!!!!!!

If it was Misbah was playing out there these people would be going head over heels... Singing praises like no tomorrow.

Shafiq batting like a dream here. Where have you been all year??

Sarfraz going into a shell. Both need to dominate.

He's not batting very slow. I just think he's now become extremely determined. And doesn't need to attack given that Shafiq is flying now. As long as the partnership lasts and Shafiq doesn't come out of the zone, they are reeling this target in very fast now.

MMHS how much you rate Asad? why he can't pull such inning too often and win something real?

50 more runs without a wicket then we are in with a real shout

163/5

If Lakmal continues for another 2/3 overs then Chandimal's tactics should be seriously questioned.
