3.15 pm local time: Hello everybody and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the second match of the Super Four round, that's what it's being called, between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. I'm George Binoy and I'll bring you the action as it plays out at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Sri Lanka already have two points, which they carried forward from the first round because they beat Bangladesh, the other qualifiers from their group. Pakistan have none and if they win today it will level the playing field with Sri Lanka. If Pakistan lose, however, their chances of qualifying will diminish significantly.

"On current form, Sri Lanka are the clear favourites in this Super Four match," says S Rajesh in his preview. "Sri Lanka haven't been stretched so far in the tournament, but that could change on Sunday. Also, they haven't enjoyed the match-up against Pakistan of late, losing five of their last six completed ODIs against them, including a 2-1 series defeat in Abu Dhabi last year."

We've had the wood over Sri Lanka for quite a while, but we must not take them lightly. They have an explosive batting order and a varied bowling attack so they will take some beating but I am confident we can come back from that thrashing and put up an excellent performance today.

Its a big game and we need big-game players to stand up and do the business for us. 300 is what we need batting first.

Pakistan haven't taken forward any points into this stage whereas their opponents Sri Lanka has taken a couple of points forward with them. If Pakistan wins this match, it will help them draw level with the Sri Lankans. And if the home team loses today, it'll seriously affect their chances of making it to the ultimate stage. Big game for both the sides, a bigger one for the Pakistanis.
Pitch Report: This pitch has a whitish look to it, straw coloured grass and even after that, it doesn't look like getting dustier and powdery towards the later half. The ball should come onto the bat nicely and Rameez Raja made a very good point that, "It looks like the curator is just not ready to take his batting pads off". Another beauty for batting...

i understand what side malik is coming from for electing to field becuz no one really knows whats a good score on this track is but still i would have batted first becuz theres nothing like runs on the board...

i hope even on this track we keep them around 250-260 not more than that which could be next 2 impossible sincepak team has a tendency to wilt under pressure when chasing big scores in pressure matches
