I dunno whether you were watching cricket in 2002 but this match reminds of a match played between these two teams in Harare I think. Pakistan had scored around 300 I think and then Zimbabwe late middle order of Blignaut and Sean Ervine just came back with some relentless hitting and nearly pulled off an improvable victory. Mind you this was a Pakistan with some huge names

I've mentally blocked out 2002-03 era, we were utterly abysmal during that time and the much vaunted seniors continually let us down. Too many seniors like Waqar, Wasim, Saqlain, Anwar were all past it but were hanging on.

But Zimbabwe were very capable of springing a surprise on their day, particularly at home. They beat England a number of times and they even beat us by an innings in a Test back in the 90s, and even in Pakistan in 1998.

Malik is a proven performer at this level who has had a long bad patch. In my view, there is no question over his ability. Now if someone who hasn't proved himself or is a proven failure, then you have to take it with a pinch of salt.

Umar is also a proven ODI player but out of form. Proven doesn't mean world class, but good enough for this level. Both Malik and Umar at their best are good enough for us.
