ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has given formal authorization to Russia to join China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) while both countries agreed to enhance the cooperation in bilateral economic, defence and Intelligence matters.

The Head of Federal Security Services Alexander Bogdanov made secret visit to Pakistan and met military’s high ups. This was first visit of Russian Intelligence Agency’s head to Pakistan in 14 years. Matters to enhance bilateral cooperation in the sections of Intelligence and defence were discussed in the meetings.

The head of the Russian Intelligence Agency reportedly requested to join the CPEC which was accepted by the Pakistan and granted Russia access to warm waters via Gwadar Sea Port.

This new development will strengthen bilateral economic and strategic relations between the two countries.

Well they are kind of desperate. They might not have normalized ties with Pakistan if it wasn't for western sanctions over Ukraine. Now they are looking towards Asian continent.

The west doesn't like Russia much. India put most of it's eggs in the American's basket making the Russian's not very happy. CPEC is off the ground now, I don't think India developing Chabahar port is getting anywhere fast. Everyone apart from India is welcome to join the CPEC.

CPEC should be kept away in all capacity from India or any of it's existing allies that fundamentally harp on the isolation Pakistan (lol what delusions I must say). Additionally, this filter might also include Bangladesh and Nepal as well. The only Subcontinental country I am happy on taking on board is Sri Lanka.

They have been a very solid ally and one of the first nations to finalize a deal from us for JFK Thunders previously !!

Why Nepal? Russia will probably take part as Pakistan is interested in getting Russian military hardware.

What will Russia even ship from Gwadar(unless they're directing their imports through there)? All they sell are weapons and oil, with manufacturing accounting for a pitifully low share of their economic output at 6%. To put that into perspective, the corresponding figures for India and Pakistan, two notorious laggards when it comes to manufacturing, are in the 14-16% range.

The Russian foreign ministry on Tuesday rubbished Pakistani media reports about 'secret negotiations' between the two countries regarding cooperation on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Reports circulating last week claimed that the Russian spy chief had made a visit to Pakistan in order to inspect the Gwadar port.

The reports alleged that Pakistan had formally authorised Russia to join the $46bn CPEC after the head of Russian intelligence requested to join the project.

"The Pakistani media reports about secret negotiations between Russia and Pakistan on the implementation of projects as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) are not true to the facts," Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation said in a press release.

Okay, Russia has rubbished the claims. We're happy to be without them,

Good. Keep away from Russia as long as Putin is in power. He is trying hard to get himself and Russia in trouble and Pakistan needs to stay far away from him.

The irony is during the Zia years, the propaganda was that we had to fund the Mujahideen in Afghanistan otherwise the Soviets would take over Pakistan and seize our warm water port on the Gulf coastline.

Now we might just offer it to them.
