This is what most of the players do in the gym; WEIGHT-LIFTING

if this is what an athlete should do, then Ronaldo would've the biggest biceps and Shoaib Akhtar would've been the best athlete in the world.

And this is what Shoaib Malik does at gym;

Never knew Pak players even knew what a gym is. Inzi would think it's the kitchen!:uakmal

Shoaib Malik is the fittest person in the team for a reason. He knows exactly what he is doing in the gym where as the others are just posers who lift weights and think it's called working out.

I was reading somewhere that Malik said his wife inspired him to get even fitter after marriage because she herself is super fit. Her sport requires her to have supreme fitness and it's great that as a couple they support each other in a positive way.

The players need to realize that 80% of body sculpting is diet. No matter how much you lift, work out, run, swim in the gym, if you eat crap and indulge in all kinds of delicacies off the field then it will nullify it all.

Our players are of the thinking that if they work hard in the gym they can eat everything they want

I remember afridi saying In a morning show once that he eats every thing be it biryani, karahi or other oily desi food but then he goes hard in the gym as well as if that covers for whatever he eats

Even our old trainer David Dwyer mentioned in a PP interview once that he is always shocked at how much oil there is in NCA food and he keeps telling the cooks to not have so much of it. And Apparenlty the food in nca is among the healthiest our players get to eat so God knows what they eat when not with the team or in a training camp

Exactly this. But sometimes karahi biryani can help you :sharjeel

It's regular intake of biryani and so on that makes you fat and unfit. I have seen some people who can't sleep without eating biryani at night

I don't understand, is OP saying that cricketers shouldn't lift weights?

Afridi for a guy who is 40+ is in good shape, most pakistani men grow a belly a year after marriage and many before that lol.

No one even knew that was Imrul Kayes until you pointed it out :))) shaz619 Syed1

Exactly.. I read his comment and went back to see the pictures... I thought the guy next to Shehzad was his trainer or something LMAO :)))

My point still stands. You thinking that Imrul was Shehzad's trainer reinforces my point. The fittest Pakistan player (Malik) would probably fit in somewhere in the middle if they were in the Bangladesh team.

Fixed

Its not about lifting weight. As a cricketer, you need to be agile and flexible rather than just muscles.

At their level, it should be more core work and high intensity training with a couple of sessions of weights in between.

exactly, Lifting weights is never the solution to your fitness if you're an athlete, not even for the fast bowlers.

These players are more concerned about the shape of their muscles

One question bro if you don't mind me asking. I've been going gym and the diet hasn't been healthy, do you know the best way to get bigger in size with regards to diet even though I know my gym routine well enough?

ExplicitAI bro u need to buy clean protein so buy chicken fish grill it with a lot of green veggies green beans broccoli lettuce cucumber. n drink protein as well to supplement your diet. You can build size with high protein diet and low carb but requires spending money.

Maliks marriage to Sania has really smartened him up in regards to how he presents himself in public how he dresses and his whole lifestyle. I remember his horror show in WT20 07 post match interview when he said i feel sorry for all the Muslims of the world when India had Muslims in their own team. He is a lot smarter now.

The best way to build stamina and endurance is doing circuit training like Malik is doing its a lot more fun than conventional cardio too.

Players should do weights as well but it shouldnt be their main focus. cricketers need to be toned not pehlwan like Sohail Khan and Akhtar post 2008. Just doing weights then eating biryani samosa wont do anything but that is such a desi mindset even at the gym i go to in U.K most guys are like its ok i eat junk roti chawal takeouts but i come gym n it balances out.

i re started gym 3 months ago n the first 2 months my diet was the same standard diet n i was losing very lil weight because my diet was so poor.

since i changed a month ago ive noticed a lot more fat loss that is maximising my workouts.

In the last year's fitness tests under army, Fawad Alam was the fittest followed by Rizwan. Younis and Misbah were next in line. Malik came later

I thought it was a fan in the gym who wanted a picture with Shezzy. :))) Maybe he is a fan.. :srt

Oh thanks a lot for the advice bro, appreciate it a lot. Going to be doing it this summer inshallah, will defo cut out a lot of oily and unhealthy foods.

Nah, every top level cricketer lifts weights as an important part of their training.

Aerobic exercise mainly ( running, swimming ) mixed with twice a week strength training is way to go. I am not a professional athlete but have run three marathons and have closely watched professional players fitness routine here in USA.

You still have to lift weights or do something that'll develop your muscles, they won't just come out of nowhere:facepalm:

Dude you have no idea how people actually think in Pakistan.....I swear I know people who literally think that eating like a maniac will give you the necessary 'Dolay Sholay' that are equated to as being fit in our culture

Exactly.
If you are lean and fit, then they will call you weak or ill.

If you are chubby/fat, then they will call you healthy.

Bro these people are simply illiterates - why do you give them importance!

Nothing wrong with lifting weights and even heavy weights as long as the Core is strong and the Cardio Vascular fitness is supreme.

As the saying goes: You cant out exercise a bad diet

The key is good cooking skills. People have this impression that healthy food is not very delicious and full filling which is further from the truth, it all depends on how well it is cooked.

?????
When did I say never lift the weights?

And do you even know that the major impact of weight lifting is not on the core of your body but your biceps and chest!

Weight lifting needs to be part of the routine, but making it the only exercise to do is just too stupid.

Strength exercise is the main focus for an athlete and not those dollian shollian.

Yup, thats the whole point, but I hardly think anyone in the team cares about anything else than that of big muscles.
