In this era of ODI cricket, possessing dynamic batsmen who can bat at SRs of 85 and above is a must. However Pakistan struggle to produce a single world-class batsman and are regressing each year. This summer our batsmen bashed a Zimbabwe C attack and padded their stats.

However once you remove our ODIs against teams ranked 10th and below in 2018, our batsmen are totally exposed - just LOOK at these abject numbers !

How can anyone look at this list and think we should continue to discard Haris Sohail ? Or ignore Babar Azam's problems against top bowling attacks ? Or Fakhar Zaman's abject displays in UAE ? Or the utter failure of the three seniors Malik, Sarfraz and Hafeez to lead as experienced players ?

Simply shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic and relying on our bowlers to bail us out is not enough. We need a wholesale clearout of this mediocre bunch who will be exposed against Steyn, Rabada and Ndigi this winter in South Africa.

Babar Azam has scored 88 runs in 9 innings at an average of 9.77. AND HIS HIGHEST SCORE IS 47. Which means he has scored 41 runs in 8 other innings. Tail ender scores more than this.

Why limit it to 2018?

We've had 5 ODIs vs New Zealand (6 after tonight's inevitable defeat), 2 ODIs vs India and a match against Bangladesh this year. This is big enough sample to conclude this batting lineup ain't up to the task against good bowling attacks.

The sooner we realise this, the sooner we can sort it out before a tough ODI schedule leading up to the World Cup.

And this is different in 2018, how?

This are shameful stats.

Babar Azam stats are especially dissapointing.

Your best batsman in terms of the stats given above i-e Haris Sohail is left out on the bench that tells you how this batting struggles while chasing a target.. Plus haris has got what 8 9 fifties in his last 13 or so matches which shows his consistency and that is an uncommon trait in a pakistani batsman...

Mickey Arthur and Grant FLower are clueless.

Pakistan’s top 3 average 61, 56 and 50 respectively in ODI Cricket.

What’s the problem? That’s better than even India whose top 3 average 45, 47 and 59

This is disgraceful Surely it’s time the likes of Hafeez, Malik and co were shown the door for good

What’s the point of having this experience if they don’t contribute

Why do you want stats from the 90s?

2018 is relevant. It's the time we're living in.

We were less worse about 5 - 6 years back.

They were horrible in '17, horrible in '16, horrible in '15.

OP is acting like this is breaking news and 2018 is an anomaly.

Where did I say it's an anomaly ? Stop making things up. What I'm saying is we have a World Cup next year and unless we wish to embarrass ourselves we need to make changes to a batting unit that's out of its depth against good bowling attacks.

Pakistan has won 21 and lost 41 against non minnows excluding west indies in the last 5 years.

Sharamful stats. We have been utter garbage for a long long time.

Can we see numbers against non-minnows?

Good thread and these stats should be sent to the management. I am sorry but Grant Flower gets some blame too for this poor show.

The performance of our bats in today's ODI makes me think of South African tour even more... oh boy I'm scared. I can hear the cracking of knuckles from my bedroom :rabada2:steyn

Can we have their career numbers against non-minnows?
Career numbers against non-minnows (teams ranked 1-9):

Imam averages 39@72
Fakhar averages 36@90
Babar averages 47@82 (if you want to be really critical - 34@80 if you remove SL and WI)
Malik averages 34@79
Hafeez averages 31@74
Sarfraz averages 34@87

Time for u to make a thread "Indian top order batsmen must learn from Pakistani batsmen how to bash minnows" :vk

Any discussion of Pakistan's consistently poor approach to odi's gets shouted down or lost in acrimony due to the win in the Champion's trophy. It is true that we played well their and as has been discussed sufficiently, it was a performance built on our bowling rather than our batting - until the final, that is.
The numbers shared by OP are bleak but they are well known.
I can only repeat what a huge loss sharjeel has been. But we have to play with the team we have. Whatever problems we might have with our batting, we are going to be in a world of pain if we carry Malik and Hafeez to the world cup. My last hope is that they both get exposed as per pedigree, in South Africa.
It feels like the build up to the tour to Australia in 2016. I was howling for Misbah and younis to retire well in time. YEs i know Younis scored a useless century in the last game to pad his stats.

The numbers in the opening post are the reality and an eye-opener.

Shocking stats, appalling figures and the main reason why Pakistan are so bad in ODIs.

These stats explains it all. Those averages and Strike Rate combo are just not what we expect from a good ODI batting lineup. I understand some of them are youngsters but still it is not a good output.

Babar Azam's numbers are woeful and really do emphasise the fact that he is extremely average against the top sides.

The fact that Malik has the highest average against non-minnows really does show where our ODI cricket stands atm

Not counting that top 3 for obvious reasons

Ain’t gonna get any better. The system is churning one garbage player after another. Just look at the under 19 batsmen. They are miserable.

Trust in Babar! The Kid oozes talent and will eventually come good against the Elite teams.
