This happens all the time
misreading the situation
going for big shots constantly and getting out

if only nawaz just took singles until the 48 to 49th over and got us about 285
wouldve been huge

Its a matter of reading the pitch and assessing par score. If you think par score is higher than it actually is. there is a chance you hit too many shots and get out before the full over quota of overs is done

What were the batsmen and management doing?

Stupid decision to promote Ifthikhar and the batsmen up top need to do their jobs.

Can't rely on tailenders all the time.

I saw on cricinfo, maybe the tone changed in the translation but Saud seemed quite pleased with his 52 in an interview in the middle, as if he's done something big.

Mindset of the team has gone to the gutters. I also want to say I do not understand why Nawaz was given that last over. I will always blame Babar for not going for Usama, he seemed to be spinning it way more, he had two wickets already he was having a decent night. Nawaz on the other hand was bowling garbage.

Even Babar said at the end, "kuch nahi aata tujhe".

That's one thing but tailenders need to show some awareness. Nawaz and wasim played terrible shots

This Saud guy needs to be kicked from the team for sure.

this happend all the time where babar pushes for wicketless bowlers
he always does it with harris even though he is wicketless and getting tonked babar will still presist with him

Another supposition if we had reached 280-285 we would had won , if the target was 285 the SA will start with 285 mindset just look at their tailenders Shamsi played 7 of 21, such calmness and composure

He has to stay because currently our biggest opponent in cricket is a complete 50 overs innings.

What has to be kicked is this mindset of doing just enough. These players need to be reminded that they are employees and not 'stars', mediocrity should not win you A tier contracts.

Saud Shakeel: Early it was harder to bat on, the ball was gripping. But I kept on taking my chances, I know my strengths. I was fortunate enough that I scored runs. I just try to follow whatever role is given to me. Keep backing myself against spinners. Earlier in the tournament I was getting starts, but wasn't able to convert it, happy that I did it today.

A 52 is a convert?

Osama was bowling 1-2 full tosses every over and it was too big a gamble to try him when Saffers needed only 5. Babar I thought made a right call not to try him but then when u give it to the biggest bottler ever in the history of cricket one wd always think that anyone cd hv been a better option even if Babar had bowled himself.

A team full of accumulators at the top and yet we still couldn’t bat the full 50 overs.

Time to change our approach in ODI’s.

2 power hitters at the top followed by a couple of accumulators in case of an early wicket.

You cannot win against the big teams with Imam and Abdullah putting more pressure on the team than the opposition.

We will get out in 30 overs then.

We need quality batsman be it accumulator or dasher from the current lot Fakahr and Abdullah look the best pair knowing other options are Imam Shan etc

Similarly middle order needs reshuffle Rizwan is an insult to no.4 position a couple of shots on leg side and a pre mediated sweep couple with fishing outside stump that's his complete game plan.
Said should ne promoted to No.4.
Allrounder category is completely finished we need to find a decent pace allrounder to add to our fast bowling stocks. Abrar should be given a longer rope as spinner and special attention to pacers who are injured Naseem Zaman Ihsan and Hasnain

Because our cricket team culture is more influenced by drama queens who care more about social media stuff, give nonsense interviews about personal lives, create fake injury/limping drama when playing, only selecting friends ... I feel it has created a culture where jazzed up presentation of a facade matters more than actual substance within. Gone are the days of glory by the 90s era teams where the team behaved like proper mard log.

Now we have a team of drama queens who want glory without effort and facade without substance.

Osama was indeed bowling trash, I absolutely agree, but on the day he was bowling better than Nawaz. Better economy and two wickets. He'd be feeling more confident than Nawaz at least. Nawaz has already proven he cannot bowl under pressure.

I can't think of any other reason to bowl Nawaz other than fear of a wide legside from Usama, but considering that his replacement is doing even worse (even before that last ball) why even try?

I couldn’t agree more. In hind sight it should have been Osama..

In hindsight,

South Africa through away too many wickets with soft dismissals

DeQock was in the mood to impale this sorry bowling attack

lack of match awareness and inability to play longer formats. Pakistan is going down WI way.

That is because we are trying to play our cricket like all other good teams where they are always trying to score fast. Pakistani batters don't have the skills to bat like the modern day batters. For our cricket team, It is best to go with the 90s formula of batting with a bit more intent of rotating strike and then capitalising on bad deliveries. If we want to change our approach, then we must start from the next series and be patient for at least 2 to 3 years.

Nawaz should never play for Pakistan again. A mental midget who has cost Pakistan many winnable games because of chocking.

Anyone remember T20 WC in MCG
Massive ground
Should've been looking for 2s or 3s but they wanted 6 every ball and kept getting out

How can common spectators pick that up but the team can't

Because these are Lakeer ke Faqeers with not a single working brain among them and they got scared after seeing the mauling India received in the semi-final and thought they needed to score 220.

This is a side effect of loading the side with a lot of "all-rounders". The structure of the Pakistan team will not allow them to get very far in any tournament. Their only hope was bowlers compensating for all the inadequacies in the batting department

1) Accumulator with 3 gears tops
2) Accumulator with 2 gears (load of weaknesses)
3) Accumulator with 3 gears (middle over weakness)
4) Accumulator with 3 gears (limited)
5) Accumulator with 3 gears (with limited experience)
6) Dasher who is dashing only 20% of the duration of his innings max 4th gear once in a while
7) all-rounder with limitations 3 gears?
8) All-rounder with limitations 3 gears
9) Slogger
10) Slogger
11) slogger

I am being generous here. It looks like Pakistan has a deep batting lineup. Yes, Quantity is there. Quality? I doubt.
This is a recipe for disaster. Nobody can go ballistic in this lineup. Their only hope all players end up scoring runs in 3rd gear in the same innings. There is no Maxwell or Rohit Sharma or Klassen or Daryl Mitchell. This probably works in T20 as in T20 their bowlers are able to hide these weaknesses.

You just have to sit do an analysis how many of these batsmen will walk into a world XI or even the XI of other bigger teams. You will find very few walking into other sides. Some of them won't even walk into second string of other teams. Nawaz will not walk into even 3rd string Indian side. He is that bad.

By playing Zimbabwe Netherland CNewzealand Pakistan have become a minnow, cannot take 10 wickets, cannot play 50 overs.

The most hurtful moment was when we lost 8 wickets to India for just 36 runs, leading to a total of 191 all out.

Without match awareness, and with no player taking serious responsibility, I believe we have a culture of 'chaddo g,' where only the captain appears concerned because he is the one who needs to answer. The rest of the players seem to be just hanging around, avoiding their responsibilities as they are not as accountable. This culture needs to be changed.
