I would like comments from readers on PAK Players who have are being selected for the wrong formats, or selection is in error, some examples

  1. Asad Shafiq: Test Player and shouldn't be in LOI
  2. Sohail Khan: LOI Player and shouldn't be in Test Squad
  3. Mohammed Hafiz: LOI Player and shouldn't be in Test Squad and if in Test Squad bat down the Order (not an Opener)
  4. Mohammed Amir: Test Player and shouldn't be in LOI
  5. Rahat Ai: Neither Test Player nor LOI
  6. Imran Khan: Test Player on certain pitches ONLY may be?

Agree with Shafiq and Hafeez only
Sohail Khan is one of our best bowlers and should be in the test squad at least, maybe not 11
Amir should be in all our squads but maybe not 11
Rahat Ali is good in tests
Imran Khan is good

Junaids will tell you better.

We lost Pink Ball Test because of having Rahat Ali greatest Net Baller Misbah ever faced ahead of Mohammad Asif who bowled 3 out of the best 4 spells of QEA 2016-2017.

Otherwise we would have been 1-0 up after 1st test.

ur point regarding amir is wrong he is not test bowler anymore he is loi material now..

The selection went wrong well before the Test squad for New Zealand was announced.

I would make the following list of missed opportunities:

1. October 2014: Babar Azam should have replaced Misbah or Younis in the Test squad, so he arrived in Australia a veteran of 22 Tests, who had already learned from his mistakes.

2. September 2015: Selectors should have advised PCB that the newly-unbanned Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were identified as key players for the tour of Australia in 15 months time, and an accelerated return plan should have been implemented so that both could play the 9 Tests outside Asia from mid-2016.

3. October 2015: The remaining player out of Younis or Misbah should have been replaced in the England series, to ensure that the replacement would arrive in Australia in November 2016 as a veteran of 12 Tests.

4. February 2016: after the failed ODI tour of NZ, the selectors should have recognised that Mohammad Irfan's height would be required in at least one Test in Australia, and he should have been given an individualised training program and workload to build him up for one, final Test at the MCG in 45 weeks' time.

5. May 2016: once it was decided that there were to be four Pakistan A Tests in England and Zimbabwe in the next four months, the selectors should have identified the need to urgently groom a pace-bowling all-rounder before the New Zealand tour. They should have selected Aamer Yamin and Amad Butt with explicit instructions that they were to play every match, no exceptions.

6. Mid-November 2016: Australia's selectors responded to heavy defeats by turning to a mainly left-handed batting line-up. Meanwhile the bowling unit failed in New Zealand. At this point Inzamam should have seen that the reliance on Yasir Shah had turned into a race of lemmings over a cliff. He needed to send a batsman who can bowl off-spin to bat at 6 - even if it was Mohammad Hafeez or Iftikhar.

7. Mid-December 2016: the batting and bowling failed at Brisbane while Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt awoke and won the QEA Trophy with their performances. Even at this stage it was not too late to strengthen a squad which was getting no output from its third seamer and left-handed opener. But another opportunity was missed.

Indeed all these opportunities have been missed.

It's not good enough to say that the best tall right-arm pacer isn't fit enough. His ban ended 15 months ago: instead of obstructing his return the PCB should have been overseeing it.

The Salman Butt fiasco is even worse. Inzamam until today could just about say "I'm investing in the youth of Sami Aslam." But Sharjeel Khan has ended up in that slot. Oh dear.

Misbah has insisted upon the wrong players - we are lucky that Hafeez's exclusion was insisted upon by Mickey Arthur - and has overbowled his bowlers since the start of the England series, and has tried to turn Yasir Shah into Glenn McGrath.

Rahat Ali , Sohail Khan were poor picks. They should have selected Ehsan Adil and Mohammad Abbas instead.

Ehsan Adil is tall, keeps it tight and seams the ball around as well. He even dismissed Smith in the World Cup though it has little relevance here.

When Australia decided to make wholesale changes and bring in 6 lefties, it was criminal no to have Hafeez or another offie in the squad.

No they weren't, these guys were the best available. The only guy that is totally undeserving was Nawaz, and his selection has made no difference to the results.

Absolutely agree with you. It's no brainier to include an off spinner to pitch against 6 lefties.

Fully agree but regarding Amir, unfortunately he is finished.
Rizwan: Neither Test nor ODI player.

Inzamam is totally failed as a selector and should be given a warning for selecting an incompetent squad. If he make same mistakes and retain same old failures should be shown the door.

Regarding Micky he should stop those over acting in front of camera instead of selecting right players for right format and show some intent to win.

Everyone needs to accept the fact that no combination of players in Pakistan at the moment is good enough to beat Australia in Australia.

Exactly even team consists of Miandad, Wasim, Waqar, Imran could not win a series against them.
But atleast we can find better cricketer than current lot for sure.

Sami Aslam is nothing but a nightwatman as Syed said fully agree with that. This guy is so limited with short selection, excessive tuk tuk and too slow to play even test cricket.
Nawaz is neither a bowler nor a batsman,.
Rizwan is just a slogger
Sohail is too unfit and not capable to play 2 tests in a row.
Rahat is a total garbage.
Imran Khan is not a international material.
Shafiq plays 1 or 2 good innings in a series depends on luck.
Both Misbah and Younis are too old
Babar Azam is another copy (Little bit better) of Umar Akaml who failed miserably in BPL against average bowlers and can only be selected in a team like Pakistan.
Wahab and Amir are nothing special.
Sarfraz is average but at least have some aggressive attitude.
Sharjeel is bound to be flopped in test. He is ok in ODI depending on pitch and bowlers
Asghar don't know why he got selected in test if not use in spin pitch

Pakistan have the players. Selection and combination blunders is a daily routine.

There are many players who are not judged properly, discarded for various reasons. Pak think tank cannot take maximum out of their players. Examples are hafeez, shafiq, junaid, etc.

Pakistan squad for WI Tests

Sami
Shehzad
Azhar
Babar
Shafiq
U.Akmal
Sarfraz
Amir
Yasir
Wahab
Sohail

Mohammad Asif is a MUST to take the new ball for Pakistan. He needs to be camped out at NCA and work hard on fitness before the next Series.

Mickey, Inzy need to make sure that he is working out the kinks now

Shoaib Malik and MoHA in the same sqaud, what purpose do they serve?

Yet we came a few shots away at The Gabba. That one really good bouncer from Starc changed it or we were headed for victory with Shah looking confident too
