I though about Naseem and Hasnain but I believe they should be allowed to learn long format bowling for couples seasons in fc cricket.

In batting Saud shakeel and Imran Butt can also be looked if we are seeking further depth

I give no guarantee we will be top 5 soon with this.lot but it gives us a blue print for future growth which seems to have completkey dissapeared with this setup

I've gone for what I believe are the too domestic performers. I know fawad is a bit old but he's performing and can give some stability for Asian conditions. Ehsan Adil is an experienced pacer who is in decent form, and he can bat a bit. Zafar will be the perfect no. 8, who can bat quite decently.

Abbas has been really out of form lately and his pace has dropped a lot recently so I went with Ehsan over him.

The good thing about this team is that only Shaheen is a complete bunny.

I'd let Naseem get some more experience before picking him. Musa is rubbish.

Overall very good XI and I like the squad.

I know Sami Aslam has been scoring heavily in FC cricket, but I would only replace Shan with him if the latter doesn't perform in this test and if there is enough evidence to suggest that Sami is capable of scoring at a faster rate. For Pakistan, over 13 tests (in 25 innings) he has a strike rate below 40, which is criminal really. From what I've heard however, he's a better player and as he's shown form I don't mind him given a chance if Azhar needs a new partner.

As for Azhar, we know he's finished but he's captain. Unfortunately he won't be dropped anytime soon, as the management and PCB are slow to act.

Regarding Fawad, that ship has sailed. He's past his peak and is simply not a viable long-term solution. This is the only change I would make in the side, which is a testament to the quality of the team you have selected (it must be said). Like Titan, I would also pick an all-rounder and for me it would be between Amad Butt, Aamer Yamin and Imad Wasim.

The bowling selections are bang on the money. Ehsan Adil and Sameen Gul should have been in the squad at the expense of Musa and IK (Snr).

Thanks. I do agree Fawad is a bit on the old side but I don't see any promising young middle order batsmen. I would only pick him as a stop gap for 2 years or so until a new name pops up from our domestic system. He can do well in Asia and he provides some stability and experience.

Changes Pakistan need to make to the Test team for the future

This AUS tour is unarguably our second worst after 2010

Changes are needed so that we stand a chance for the next three years

1.Misbah needs to be CS only dual roles are a disaster for him and Pakistan cricket.I would recommend different coaches across different formats. Sack Waqar and get someone else bowling coach.

2.Reninstate Sarfraz as captain across all three formats before Babar gets crushed under captaincy pressure and Azhar makes us go to the level of associates.

3.Play Rizwan in Tests as specialist batsman under Sarfraz, he is capable of playing clutch knocks under pressure

4.Open with Sami Aslam and Imam Ul Haq and sack Azhar his batting has been abysmal. Shan is only good for 30s and 40s innings only

5.Go to our policy of playing 5 bowlers- 2 AR and three specialist bowlers.

I know none of these will apply because this is PAK cricket but as a fan I can hope and pray.

Play Sarfraz and make him captain on top of that. So basically don't learn anything from the disasters of the past and repeat them. The guy is done and Rizwan is much better. Anyone who saw Rizwan bat in Brisbane can tell the difference.

Look for captaincy elsewhere. Azhar, Shafiq and Haris are not the answer. I am not even sure that they are going to be there much longer if it's performances we are going by especially Azhar.

It might be too soon to hand Babar the captaincy in tests but I don't see any other option. Shan Masood, maybe, but that depends on how this test and the SL series goes. If he gets runs, give it to him until Babar is settled enough to take over. That will be a big improvement over the past 3 years or so.

Drop Yasir too or play him as your second spinner is Asia. But SL series is where this drama of him being the premier spinner should end. Give Zafar his overdue debut and see how things go from there. He can be a decent bat too.

Even then we are not going to turn into world beaters overnight. The only thing this accomplishes is turn things a little bit in the right direction, where we atleast acknowledge the mistakes and try to learn from them, and that is a good enough start.

The argument is that there are people who've scored more than him. There are middle order batsmen who have scored more than him.
You can't just select Fawad because he's well... fawad.

But I'd go with him considering he has experience ( a LOT of it). So let's test him out

Who has better first class record abid or imam- I thought Imams 4 day record was pretty poor, surprised to see so many people wanting him in the squad. I think Azhar needs to go based on consistently failing over the last 3 years. Shan has done decent in tough overseas conditions but I feel like him and Sami aslam play similar and the scoreboard would not move we can only afford one of them.

Yasir keeps his place as we play in Asia, Zafar as the secondary spinner. Umar Amin and Sami Aslam are quality bats. Ammad butt as the pace allrounder and Naseem and Shaheen as the only genuine pacers in this line up, have to persist with them and they will come good with experience.

On the basis that he bowls fast and can reverse the ball, taken 108 wickets at 24 in first class, and significant improvement in his batting.

On the contrary, we have all seen Faheems batting and seen absolutely no improvement even if you look at domestic games.

Yamin is the best bat out of these but if we are looking to develop a genuine all rounder than I would rather not go with a 120kph bowler who will be ineffective in international.

I think we will say more changes in the bowling department. Musa surely needs time to develop his skills, he needs more and more FC matches under his belt. Not sure with Naseem, but if the guy can't bowl 15 overs a day, he shouldn't be selected. It's like playing half a bowler, as happened in the 1st Test Vs Australia. Shaheen will definitely play, probably they selectors can add 2-3 Fast bowlers in the squad who are performing. I would personaly like to see Shinwari playing. Yasir Shah will definitely play with another spinner (Zafar Gohar or Nauman Ali) both are performing. As far as batting is considered I see one or two changes, may be Fawad Alam will be included.

Naseem can definately bowl more than 15 ...he has been playing first class this year. I think the media and the management got it all confused. He never bowled in second innings because there was no point to be honest which is right as we were getting battered.

Lets not forget matches in UAE or home will hardly need services of fast bowlers i remember going with just one pace bowler who just used to bowl 7 to 8 overs for the sake of it...i do think we need a X factor

Tough to pick the pacers because Abbas hasn't been in good form, Shaheen has just come back, whilst both Ehsan and Sameen haven't played much for a while, moreover you can't overwork a youngster like Naseem in these conditions.

No i don't think Shan is impressive. Average of under 28 and only a handful of decent performances. Somebody else deserves a go who's done well i.e. Abid Ali/Sami Aslam/Imran Butt.

He's become the dictator, who's going to sack him? He waltzed in, got rid of MA and subsequently awarded himself job of CS & coach without any merit or qualifications.

3. Babar Azam (Time to step up)
4. Fawad Alam (no justification needed)
5. Umar Akmal (I know he is a head case, but he deserves another go at the 4 day version)
6. Iftkhar Ahmed / Harris Sohail / Saud Shakeel
7. Rizwan
8. Yasir Shah (at home is he much better)
9. Zafar Gohar
10. SSA
11. Abbas / Tabish Khan

Retain proven performers and bring in talented youngsters on merit.

Shan Masood, Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Rizwan, Yasir Shah, and Mohammad Abbas should be the first names on the team sheet.

Youngsters should be considered heavily over 30+ players.

For openers, one of Sami Aslam, Imam ul-Haq or Imran Butt must be in the squad.

For middle-order bats, pick either Usman Salahuddin, Saad Ali, Umar Akmal or Saud Shakeel.

For all-rounders, there are Zafar Gohar and Amad Butt. Spinner Sajid Khan should also be in the running for selection.

Ehsan Adil deserves to be in the playing XI.

Misbah-ul-Haq must select from this group of players.

He has to look past old players such as Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, Kashif Bhatti, Rahat Ali, Tabish Khan and Imran Khan who have no future.

As a fan I am not getting my hopes up. I fully expect Misbah-ul-Haq to dish out a geyser squad, but I hope there are at least a few young players in the squad.
