Pakistan's worst Test player that has played for a long time

Easily shafiq.

To play for a decade, that too in the UAE and at one the easiest spots at 6 - then proceed to have done nothing is absolutely criminal.

With Azhar atleast he did something substantial and was a top 5 batsman in the world at one point.

shafiq pretty much wasted a decade of Pak cricket.

Umm Shafiq was no saint but he averages 38 with the bat and had a range of shots.

Masood averages a freaking 28.

Averaging 38 with the bat as a pure batsman batting at no. 6 is an achievement?

Even keepers like Rizwan and Sarfraz average the same and they do extra duties!!

Shan hasn't played continuously for a decade either and at least he helped chase down that mammoth total against SL.

What are shafiq's achievements?

Averaging 38 as a batsman batting at 6? How pathetic and pitiful is that!!

Worst XI for Pakistan circa late 90s onwards

Farhat
Khurram
Shan
Faisal Iqbal
Fawad Alam
Shoaib Malik c
Adnan Akmal+
Sohail Tanvir
Zahid Mehmood
Tanvir ahmed
Naseem Shah

Perfect Worst XI, right left combo in opening couple of annoying characters like Farhat & Bhanja, the grunter Tanvir Ahmed, the man with ******* S Tanvir , paradoxical talent Naseem Shah and Zahid the wannabe Warne

BUMP

Shan Masood after 35 Tests averages 29 as batsman with 35 years age, is he the worst batsman ever to play for Pakistan, surpassing the likes of Imran Farhat, Faisal Iqbal, Khurram Manzoor & Faheem Ashraf

@Bewal Express thoughts please

Yes and no. The stats are terrible and as I said before that's what ultimately matters because that's how everyone judges players. The frustrating thing is that he looks the part for an 1.5 hours and then thinks he is Joe Root or some other top player. It's definitely not a fitness thing because he isn't overweight, so it's a mental thing. Mark Wood once said that once he gets to 15( or something to that affect) he thinks he is Don Bradman. Shaan may have similar issues

The team since Misbah’s coaching has to be the worst ever to play Test cricket.

It doesn’t matter if it has guys averaging 50+. There is hardly any genuine Test class player in the side.

Babar
Rizwan
Shaheen
Naseem

4 of the most overrated and rubbish Test cricketers in Pakistan Test history. They have been the core, and the core has been the reason why Pakistan is crap.

Since YK and Misbah retired, we have not had a genuine killer in the middle. Azhar Ali & Asad Shafiq played decent (the former much more than the latter) with Misbah as captain, but the retirement and them becoming 3/4 was the beginning of the end really.

Babar obviously hasn't been great, Rizwan too, but think it's at all levels. Don't have anyone consistently they can rely on in tests with the exception of Shakeel. Think he should be the 3/4 moving forward.

Ayub is the future but definitely has left us wanting in the longest format so far. Ways to go.

Shan needs to go, simply not international caliber at any level.

Not sure who are the new up and comers, but we should start giving chances to newer players for sure, even if it replaces guys like Babar. Kamran has been decent but needs a long run where his place isn't in question so he can play his game.

Do we have anyone in their mid 20s who has done well at the domestic circuit who should be ready for international cricket?

Imran Farhat played 48 Tests and averaged 32 , was considered the worst player.

Some considered Faisal Iqbal the worst 26 Tests average 27.

Shan Masood though is in good form recently but overall in the same category

I have checked the stats and found two batters that can also fall into this category.

1. Asif Mujtaba played 25 test matches for Pakistan with an average of 24.42.
2. Basit Ali played 19 test matches for Pakistan with an average 26.81.
