PakPassion Predictions Competition: World Cup 2019

Oh´ well, what happened today?! The standings suggest that hardly 20 of the 60 participants predicted West Indies to win. I was one of them by the way.

Post the standings in this thread please. It keeps the competitive juices flowing. :afridi

So how are we doing in this?

Just came to post the standings, only to see that you´ve done that already! Mere screenshots zaaya gaye!

If only New Zealand hadn't lost their 8th wicket, I would've led the table now. Either way, happy to be the joint-leader finally. From hereon should ideally begin the game for me. Could go either way of course. You never know.

There´ll be no points today for the abandoned match. So the standings stay as they were after yesterday´s match.

Both Abdullah719 and Zeeraq were on track to go ahead of me but then, then Bangladesh ended up losing by over 100 runs! I cursed you both, haha! :riaz

Unexpected thrashing, but the tournament is still in the early phase so plenty of time to get ahead:sarf

No points for anyone from today's washed out match. Standings stay as they were.

I announce with a heavy heart that for the second day in a row, there´s no progress in our competition due to another washed out match today.

Zeeraq one of us will have a lead today at the end of the match - provided that the rain stays away.

Good luck!

I´m now the leader of the league for the first time, and that too by a lead of two points.

Ah´ I so love this competition! :salute

Remember---

"Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown(golden cap)"!!!

:sa

So true; which is exactly why I don´t wear the crown. I put it on the side and just enjoy being the topper.

No changes to the standings after yet another washout in the tournament!

Join up people! Put your predictions where your mouth is! ;)

I just did, and what a masterstroke it was! However, Bangladesh have ended up winning so easily that they cost me one point which you get for correctly predicting the margin of the victory! :))

Well right, it´s South Africa versus New Zealand today, which means that one of the most exciting matches is coming up today in terms of our competition. Very tough to pick!

And it was a nail-biter! The best match of the tournament so far, easily. My lead at the top has narrowed down to just one point after this match. Well, actually, there count three factors when you make such decisions.

1. You make decisions by using your mind.

2. Or by going by your strong inner, gut feeling. An example being the Bangladesh versus the West Indies match where I got a very valuable point.

3. Or by solely using one´s heart - as I yesterday did. Given that we all wanted South Africa to win so that Pakistan´s chances of staying alive in the tournament increase a little, so I went with my heart and went with South Africa. I got it wrong, fair enough, but given how close a contest it was, and how it could´ve gone either way, I don´t one bit regret my decision. Right decisions are not always those which end up proving right.

Zeeraq a boundary by Mashrafe in the 50th over gave you that point which now puts you as my joint-leader on the table. If only, if only the last over had been bowled tightly, I´d have now led by two points on the contrary. Just by two runs - sigh! :(

But.... I´m ready to kick on your back and then to let you slip by leaving your hand to make you fall from the top. :vk2

What does this spoon like symbol mean next to quite a few team names?

If it wasn't for my irrational support for Pakistan team we wouldn't even be having this conversation:21:

What does this spoon like symbol mean next to quite a few team names?

It´s a wooden spoon which represents a bad or I think the worst performance in a round. It is explained on their website I think.

If it wasn't for my irrational support for Pakistan team we wouldn't even be having this conversation:21:

Mera kasoor? Daal dey´n, ye bhi mujh pe daal dey´n! Top pe jo aa gya tha, jalann tou hogi hee sab ko! :bhajji

I went with Pakistan for the first team and they won! As a result of this, and due to the point gained by correctly predicting the margin, myself and Zeeraq get bit of a breathing space as the member on the second place is behind us both by two points.

This prediction competition is way more fun then fantasy as no one needs to micro-manage.

And with that, I reclaim my position of being the only leader of the table. No more joint-leaders anymore! :msd

Yeah, it combines fun with the fact that you don´t have to spend hours thinking whom to play. So it´s immense fun minus the headache.

Also, how does it feel to have been pushed to the second spot today by myself? :yk

The tournament is far from over:smith

There was no way that Pakistan were winning yesterday´s match over New Zealand with eight or nine wickets down - at most maybe with seven wickets down. Below that, they would´ve surely lost it given Pakistan´s tail´s iffy history. So the ONLY way that your "Narrow win for Pakistan" prediction was going to prove right was if Pakistan were to take it to the last over; and that they did! If only, if only Pakistan had chased it down two balls earlier, you weren´t going to get the second point for getting the margin correct. So you took a risk and it proved right. I must commend you for that. As a result of that, the difference between us is again down to just one point. Hoh´, this is tight, very tight! Well done, my competitor!

Pakistan´s tendency of taking their run-chase to the last over has now twice cost me that extra point which I would´ve got for correctly predicting the margin. Once I would´ve got for getting right the number of balls left, and once for getting right the number of wickets lost, but on both occasions they took it to the last over. Not fair!

Standings after 30th June......

And with that, I´m again joined by someone as the leader of the table. He got two points from the England-India match and hence jumped up from the third place.

This is getting exciting here.

Standings after 1st July.....

And with that, by taking a brave call to go with a tiny minority which went with Sri Lanka for today´s match, I´m back again as the lone leader of the table, and that too by a lead of two points! :bhajji

The West Indies are such a fun team to watch. From firstly losing by such a big margin as to lose me one point, they then looked good to even snatch away from me the point for predicting the win, only to end up giving my both points altogether. What a team! :yk

Standings after 2nd July......

1.JPG2.JPG3.JPG

And with India´s "comfortable" win over Bangladesh, I now have a substantial lead of three points, and it is for the first time. It is far from over as from what I remember, there´ll be more points on offer for each match in the knock-out, but feel very relaxed now at the top for the time being.

However, this relaxation is all temporary. No one should think that I don´t respect the "minnows" below me. :sanga

Standings after 3rd July.......

1.JPG2.JPG3.JPG

My optimism and support for Pakistan made me go for New Zealand today, and this led to myself having lost my three-point lead by one point:facepalm:. However, them having lost by such a huge margin means that I lost out on just one point, instead of two. Therefore, a lead of two points is still quite encouraging for me.

Standings after 4th July......

1.JPG2.JPG3.JPG

I gained just one point the last two days, as a result of which my lead at the top has now narrowed down to just one point. If had known that it wasn´t going to be a track which would slow down too much later on, and also given thought to the fact that the West Indies only have one spinner in their line-up, who´s also not the best in world, I would´ve not gone for an "Easy" win for the West Indies over Afghanistan.

Either way, this is getting seriously close!

Jimmy the predictor dog in Hyderabad, India has predicted Australia to win the world cup!

And with that, I´m now again joined at the top by that member who has been in serious contention from day one. Whoever he is, my full respect goes to him!

If Jimmy gets this right, it should join our competitions in the future. :najam

And as the league phase of the tournament comes to an end, I´ve been pushed to the second place as Eht takes the top spot. What a performance by him!

Still though, there´s still a long way to go in the tournament, as will be explained in my next post below this one.

An important reminder for all our participants:

Now that the knock-out will kick off from Tuesday, there´ll be awarded two points for correctly predicting the winner as well as two for the margin.

For the final, you´ll earn three points for correctly predicting the winner as well as three for the margin.

Get ready fellows, this competition is about to take off!

Sorry folks, I got it slightly wrong. The point for correctly predicting the margin stays one even in the semi-finals and the final. The increase in rewards is only for correctly predicting the winner.
